I haven't shot her yet but she sure feels good to hold . I dont handload and I really like the hornady light mags in my 06 , so I was thinking about trying the heavy mags SST 139 gr.

  6. I got me one a them talkin javelina last year , found it(or maybe it found me)in a canyon in the babs. It told me that if I would kiss it , it would turn into a beautiful princess . I loaded her in the truck , took her home and put her in the back yard . She said aren't you gonna kiss me so I can turn into a beautiful princess ? I said ,no, I think I would rather have a talkin javelina.
  7. I thought I was probaly the only one that ever encountered one but it's got to be the banjo pickers . I had parked in an empty but obviously used camping area and then climbed the mountain .While glassing on the mountain I had seen a truck and horse trailer across the flats . I didnt pay much attention to it but when I got back to my truck that afternoon the truck with horse trailer was nearby , the horse was on a pickett line , and some ole boy was on a dirty sofa picken a banjo . I kept my rifle in hand till I could get in my truck and get out of there. This is a true story I swear . I forgot to mention this was a couple years ago on the first day of my first coues deer hunt.

    30-06 Coues Load?

Give the Hornady Light Mags a try . My 06 likes the 165 grainers . I never tried the 150's because the 165's dang near all went thru the same hole . I get sub moa groups out of my sav 110 . They shoot pretty flat too , I missed a good buck a couple years ago because I over estimated range and shot right over him .. There isn't anything wrong with 270 or 06 but I'd say 06 is a little more versatile.

    300 wby

I have a 300 wby , plain ole vanguard , bought it 10 years ago for about $400.00 . And yes , I do love it , but I've kinda been hankerin for a 257 wby to use for cooze deer , 300 's just too much for them little deer . Not that I believe there is any such thing as overkill but I was hoping 257 might be lighter and a little easier to carry on those long treks lookin for my next trophy cooze buck . Well after doing a little research I've discovered that the 257 and 300 vanguards weigh the same . Guess I'll have to think of some other excuse to buy me a new 257 vanguard . I checked the price at wally world today , it was $425.00 for new 257 wby vanguard .

    Hard work can pay off!

Congratulations on a great 1st buck and a great story . I too , took my 1st coues this year . It was after 5 tough days of hunting and each day I hunted harder than the day before . I should probaly thank shortpants cause I kept thinking about his little saying "If your not questioning your sanity your not hunting hard enough " and it kept me going. Thats a cool map of your stalk route.

    Suggestions...

In my 300 wby I use wby brand. My wifes '06 has definite preference for hornady light magnum 165 gr. btsp . Hornady also offers a 180 gr btsp light magnum load for 30-06 . They are not cheap but you might give em a try .

    3rd Times A Charm

Well , after 3 years of hunting I was able to bag a wiley coues buck . I saw lots of other hunters , some illegals , whitetail and mule deer doe and yearlings , and lots of good looking country but in 5 hard days of hunting this is the only buck I seen . I did not hesitate to take him . He is not as large as some of yours' but I am very proud and I can look forward to trying to better him next year . It was a pretty tough hunt , what with the heat and the moon but yall know that , already . I hiked about 5 miles from nearest road and was glassing deer but no bucks . I climbed a ridge above a waterhole wth lots of tracks around it and began creeping along looking for deer . There was lots of sign and my spirits were high. I glassed several high valleys and then threw rocks down them before moving on . The next drainage was a nice shady one and shortly after I began glassing I spotted a bedded deer looking up at me , it was a buck and my brain screamed " shoot that S. O. D. " (son of a doe) , as I put down my binoculars and picked up my rifle the buck and a couple other deer got up and began to move . I steadied my rifle and when he stopped to look back , he made his last mistake . The 150 grain slug from my 300 wthby hit him high on the side in the middle of his back and traveled down thru the vitals to a stop under the skin of his neck/chest . It missed the backstraps and went between the shoulders , very little meat was ruined by the bullet . It was 3:30 pm when I shot him and it was 7:00 pm when I staggered up to my truck and took of my pack . Man , if that illegal had only come down that trail a couple hours later he could of had his first american job .

    cat

I couldnt tell if he was pulling my leg or not . It looked real to me . I was told it was taken in the chiricahuas , I've spent some time in there and certainly wouldnt doubt that possibility. I really dont know much more than this. I've sat on this for a while and decided to post to see if someone might have seen it before. I dont know if my friend knows McCain . Probaly he was just having fun with me. Still every time I come down off the mountains alone and in the dark I think of this pic .
  19. You all probaly hoping I've given up on this , but It's only that Ive had no time . 18 hour day ,today, has left me dog-tired.

Anyone seeing lions while out scouting?

Oh well , thats what you get cause "our" side negotiated out of fear .
  21. Guess I wasn't very clear. The activity must fit ALL FIVE criteria, not just a one or more. Try again. -TONY Many , many people would agree that they do meet all five , but don't you think inhumane and cruel are a bit redundant?

Anyone seeing lions while out scouting?

You guys are so right . The ARA won this one by forfeit . They may have been momentarily confused but they will come back emboldened. This is a win for them there is no other way to look at it . Another case of the blind leading those who cant see .
