Got verified spots to go hunt, just need 2-3 people who are free to help on Oct. 6 turkey hunt next weekend. JUST had two (2) last-minute tags donated to Hunts for Heroes. Sure beats staying home wishing you were hunting! Call me: (480)760-3868 ...

I know a lot of you ASU peeps are relishing in this fiasco. That said, really good people built up a powerhouse in Tucson over the years. Don't know how long this was going on. You'd think it would have leaked out before this if it had been a long-standing operation. I'd like to think Sean Miller really didn't know about it --- time will tell. Regardless, the UofA's basketball program is going to take a BIG hit!

NOTE: this was a very last minute opportunity for a disabled vet to go elk hunting! The vet IS mobile; hardware inside his knees slows him down. Lee (300RUM) just texted me that the Hero hunter on the 4B archery cow hunt can now stay through the end of the hunt on Thursday IF, (yes, that reads IF) we can find a volunteer or 2 that could take over for Lee after Sunday (if not tagged out by then). I can have Lee contact you --- I can be reached at my cell: (480)760-3868 ... Much thanks!!!

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we share the passing of one of the greatest friends and partners to the Arizona Elk Society --- Ray Evridge. He gave of his time and his heart to volunteer, mentor and help others. We lost a true Hero today and one of the best conservationists and hunters in the state. Ray, you made a difference in all of us and in Arizona. You left your footprint upon our hearts. You will be deeply missed our friend, but you will never be forgotten. We will continue to walk in your steps and you will always remain in our hearts. And, as we hear the call of the wild each season, we know you will be with us. We love you brother. RIP. Ray's family has asked that in lieu of flowers you can donate to AES Hunts for Heroes. Ray's latest project he was working on was for his club, Phoenix Varmint Callers (PVCI), and friends to partner with H4H and take 4 of Arizona's wounded veterans on a free predator hunt this October. PVCI, AES and his friends are going to make Ray's legacy live on and host these warriors. Donation link - https://www.arizonaelksociety.org/…/product/donation-to-aes/ All funds will go directly to the PVCI Wounded Veteran Predator Hunt. Thank you.

If you find a wallow that is currently being used (opaque muddy water, not clear), I'd sit it from 10:30 a.m. to maybe 1:30 or so. Have had several bulls come in mid-day. One other thing --- Thermacell (and/or head net and gloves) to combat the mosquitoes!!! Trust me ...

Awesome --- hope there's more to come!

Advice? Don't miss!!!

Again, you can get in touch with me (as a coordinator for Hunts for Heroes) to donate any big game tag you (or your family member) obtained through the draw --- mostly elk and deer tags from this date going forward to the end of the year. There really is nothing like seeing a disabled vet's face as he/she is out hunting in Arizona's awesome outdoors! Yes, when you donate your tag to AES' Hunts for Heroes (which partners with G&F's tag transfer program) you can have your bonus points reinstated IF you purchased Point Guard for that specie before the draw took place. Even if you didn't purchase Point Guard, handing your tag over to see a disabled vet get to hunt is a pretty cool thing to do. Reaffirming what was answered previously --- no, you won't be reimbursed for the cost of the tag (no matter who you donate your tag to).

The Saturday morning right before this past July 4th, the hwy into Payson was backed up way before the casino just about to where it curves to the east. LEAVE EARLY if you're going that way!!!

Hey All: Hunts for Heroes will be holding a follow-up Camo Closet event for everyone who will be out deer hunting with their bows tomorrow. We'll be taking your hunting clothing / equipment donations to be used by disabled Arizona veterans as they get out and embrace our hunting heritage! Our purple-logo'd pop-up canopy will be set up outside the EXIT DOORS at Bass Pro in Mesa this coming Tuesday afternoon/evening, Aug., 29. Hours: 3 p.m. - 8 p.m. What to donate: new and lightly used camouflage clothing, boots & access. (packs, knives, optics, game bags, etc. - just not junk) and COLD WEATHER clothing, insulated boots, insulated gloves/knit caps (cold weather stuff doesn't have to be camo). Call me with any questions: (480)760-3868 NOTE: If you're in town tomorrow (Saturday), I'll be at Healy Arms in Tempe to take your donations from 9:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.! Thanks to all those who've already let us they know they'll be getting involved! Like the saying goes, "be there or be ..."

A couple disabled vets and I will be at Bass Pro tomorrow --- great opportunity to help outfit Arizona vets who put it all on the line for all of us. Elk season is just 2 weeks away --- let's make it happen! And if you want to get involved with an actual Hunts for Heroes hunt, stop by and let's talk ... -
Hunts for Heroes Camo Clothing and Outdoor Gear Drive / SATURDAY the 26th
Lv2hnt replied to Healy Arms's topic in The Campfire
A big shout-out to those CWTers who made the effort to make it to Healy Arms in Tempe yesterday with their camo and hunting clothes donations (you know who you are)!!! A great start to an ongoing project --- a variety of items, all in great condition. Sal ... ute!!! Many of the disabled vets hunting with Hunts for Heroes have never hunted big game before and aren't adequately prepared to go out in the field in Arizona. These donations will help make their hunting experiences positive ones. NOTE: A few participating Hunts for Heroes vets will be at Bass Pro THIS Tuesday, Aug.29, from 3-8 pm. --- a neat chance to meet vets who've actually been in the field with Hunts for Heroes, AND find a place for your hunting stuff taking up room at home. If you missed yesterday's opportunity to donate camo clothing, boots, cold weather gear, and hunting accessories you're not using, you can still get involved with our Camo Closet --- all you have to do is ... do it! Thanks again to Mark Healy and Healy Arms for your continued support!- 7 replies

Hunts for Heroes has a Camo Closet storage container at our admin asst's house up north off Pioneer Rd/I-17. They have a standard washing machine in their house, but are running an electrical line and water to the container for a dedicated washing machine/dryer set-up in the container. Anyone have (or know of) a washing machine / dryer combo that might be available as a donation??? We're on the lookout for a used washing machine / dryer (largest capacity possible) in good working order so all hunting clothing donations can be cleaned before they are loaned out to vets for Hunts for Heroes outings. We use non-UV non-scented laundry detergent, so a separate washing machine / dryer is a must --- and a larger capacity set-up will speed up the cleaning chores considerably! If you don't have one yourself to donate, perhaps you could ask around? Much appreciated!
