second shot

Saw this over the weekend. Anyone know what kind of animal made it?

With the exception of my last deer, I get the shakes so bad I can't hit them on the first shot.

found these on my last couple outings.

They were about 100 yards apart. Found them on the same hill as the picture I posted a couple weeks ago.

Found all the stuff in 33. I think the dead animals were kills because they were in varying states of decay from probably a year or so old to maybe month on the most recent one. I like to think that someone wouldn't come back time and time again to poach in the same spot but who knows. Plus I have seen lion tracks in the area.

Went out this morning to scout and look for sheds. Saw two doe and about 15 javalina in one area and a spike on the hill where I found the head and sheds. On that same hill I found three dead javi's and parts of another deer. I'm guessing the lions are having a feast.

I agree that a lever action is the way to go. I use a 30-30 and when the operator doesn't malfunction it works well.

mjmhunter the body was in Reddington pass about nine miles up from the Tucson side.

I've found one arrow head and a bunch of pottery pieces. I found one fifty cal round on a hill, it looked a bit out of place so I left it there. The coolest thing I found was on a ranch around Madera canyon. My buddy and I were hunting mule deer and took a break on a rock in the bottom of a small canyon. I looked down and sticking out of the mud was a piece of metal. I dug it up and it was an old pick axe head. I took it to the rancher who told me that people used to prospect the land around 1900 so it was probably left by one of them. It makes a nice addition to my front yard. My dead body story. I never saw the body but my buddies and I were camping and smelled something dead but were unable to locate it. Two weeks later I saw our campsite on the news because the forest service found the body of a woman that had been there for a few weeks. Kind of creepy knowing I camped about thirty feet from the body all night.

If this works these are the photos of the buck I got on Oct 31st. I already posted how he came up about 50 feet from me and stopped so I could get a good shot. I didn't have a camera in the field so these were taken from home.

My opening morning spot was crawling with hunters and nothing was moving except a few doe. Seemed like everyone else around me had a shot though. I passed on a forky that night and my buddy got a very big 3x2. We celebrated with a few cold ones. I hunted hard saturday and sunday but only saw doe. We came back Sunday night and my dad convinced me to give it another shot since I didn't have to work Monday. We went to a spot that I'd been seeing bucks every time I was out scouting. We got there at 5:30 and set up our binos. At about 7:30 I just happened to look to my right just as a nice 3x3 ran from over the hill behind us and stopped about 50 feet from me. One shot, he ran about 50 feet and the rest is history. I'm glad my dad convinced me to go that last day. My deer with probably score in the 70s and when I said my friends 3x2 was big I didn't realize how big until I put my 3x3's rack inside the 3x2 and it fit. It was a successful year for our group.

We camped in Reddington and it was a circus by 6:00 am on Thursday. We got up there at about 5:30 to get a spot, the spot we wanted was taken and so was just about every other spot we wanted to be. We ended up putting our tent city right next to the main road in the biggest place we could find. Worked out ok though.

I have my campsite, opening morning hill, and hopefully the buck (if he's still there) picked out. Went out on Monday and saw quite a few deer. Ther 28th is just around the corner.

I was out this morning and saw 12 deer. 3 mulies and 9 coues(three spikes and two good probably 80" bucks). The bucks sparred off and on for about fifteen minutes. If only it was October 28th, my tag is burning a hole in my pocket.

Sorry to hear about your dog. I have my first dog now and he is part of the family. My prayers to you and your family.

I was scouting today and found a mountail lion skull. It's starting to deteriorate but is still in good shape. If anyone could tell me what to put on the skull to preserve it I would appreciate it. And I did see one 3x3, I spooked him and tried to chase him down on foot but you can imagine how that turned out.

I went out to scout on Monday in the Reddington pass area. I found a good spot and watched three bucks, one nice one, and five does feeding below me and across the canyon. After about an hour of watching I decided to stalk the big buck and was able to get within about 75 yards before he decided to leave. Well, I started to head off in another direction up a hill when a little spike popped over the hill in front of me. He was only a stones throw away and I could see an entry/exit wound over his left shoulder and he was bleeding pretty good. He was still able to walk but I could tell he was having a hard time. I went in the direction the deer came from to see if anyone was archery hunting but there was no one. All there was was a group of dove hunters. This deer was freshly shot. I talked to one of dove hunters and he said his group were the only people in the area. I called G&F to report the deer, I just wish I'd seen who shot it. It's unfortunate that someone would do something like this.

If my schedule permits I'll be there.

Glad to hear I didn't scare all the birds away when I came charging over the hill. I'm taking a friend up Sunday so he can try and fling an arrow at a buck. Not going to the same spot but hopefully I'll see as many deer as I did on Labor Day.
