Arizona Sportsmen / AZ Game & Fish Meeting

Anybody go? -
I had high hopes for today but am not to suprised. This must mean that they are going to push the deadline to pay also. Thursday...grrrrr

Are you talking about those tripod stands? That is how they hunt them in Mexico, and Texas. If it is legal then it is ethical? If it is effective then they will probably make it illegal.
-
I am starting to get excited, if they come out on tues then I guess I will be scouting for sheep on wed.

I know that org.s like AES and ADA do a lot of great projects, but the way I read that is that none of these orgs get any of that money. It says that they are suppose to have some oversight (input) on how it is spent but it actually gets spent by the g$f. And if this is the same g$f that I know they like to accept public input and then do what ever the heck they want.

Nice pics. I watched a roadrunner take out a couple baby gambels a couple weeks ago, I now dislike them almost as much as rattlers

Wow you left it out for a year and nobody found it! It is to bad you didn't have a solar charger or something on those batteries, it would be interesting to see how many good pictures you could get in a year. It is hard to say what would have caused that in the last picture, I doubt that it was claw marks even though it looks like that. I have seen deer rub against trees and get there hair standing up like that thanks for sharing your pics -
A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to the winners!!! I think it would be stupid to try and limit NR in a drawing like this when the name of the game is making the g$f money(what a suprise) I refused to purchase a ticket for this raffle because of the hundreds of thousands of dollars raised last year with the raffle and I never heard of one good thing happening for wildlife with that money. If anyone has any specific examples of what the game and fish did with that money I would love to be informed. p.s. Real men go to NAU!

More OPPORTUNITY

I thought I would share my email to the dept. I am writing to express my concern over the proposed hunt guidelines for 2008 to 2010. My main concern deals with this excerpt from the document: "Maximize hunter opportunity while maintaining wildlife population health, structure, and integrity. Guidelines for this approach are: • Minimize hunt opportunity when the legal animals are most vulnerable (e.g., breeding period) in standard management areas. • Optimize hunt opportunity with respect to demand. " These two guidelines are obviously conflicting with each other because the majority of demand from Arizona hunters is hunts that are in the breeding season. I know that the department would like to believe that their surveys show that hunters prefer opportunity over quality however actions speak louder than words and most of the first choices on applications are for quality (e.g. low opportunity) hunts. Turning Arizona hunting into high opportunity low quality hunts will eventually be a very costly mistake for the department. Unlike Colorado that can afford to sell hundreds of thousands of tags and still set aside quality units Arizona does not have the animal populations to support this. Quality is all Arizona has going for it! I commend the department for using demand of weapon type to dictate allocation of elk permits however I believe that this model should also be used to dictate deer management. If more than a certain percentage of deer are harvested in the archery season than this is obviously how hunters are choosing (demand) to hunt. Instead of lowering the archery permits maybe the department should adjust to the demand and lower the rifle permits. Thank you for your time! Christopher Allen -
This is probably just what PETA recommeded or maybe they stood outside of the humane society and took a survey

There are lots of suckers to shoot on the lower salt if you can get out there in the morning before the tubers and lots of 3 to 4 lb carp on the verde

I had the 22 South Archery Bull tag two years ago and when scouting I ran into the g$f guy out driving around (yea, I couldn't believe it either) and he put me onto some bulls just west of rye. So I know the g$f field officers know there are elk in the desert but I am sure that commissioners don't know about them or they would either give out more tags to exploit this hunter opportunity or close off the area to protect our new species of Sonoran Elk -
Last year I met up with some friends on this hunt and I could not believe what a zoo it was. We were just west of mormon lake and north and west of mormon mtn and it was the most crowded hunt I think I have ever seen (worse than kiabab). If I was going I would look at the southeast corner of the unit and I would stay away from the "quiet areas".

I would disagree with this, I have a 8.5-32x50 on my coues gun and the only time I had a problem with two much magnification on something close was when I tried to use it as a loner gun for a novice on a elk hunt(elk 30yds, broadside walking, never stopped). The benefit of being able to tuck the cross-hairs behind a deer shoulder at 300+ yards far out weigh the risk of having to take a quick shot in close range. In my opinion I would go with that VX III

nice pics, great looking bear!!! I pretty sure it is not illegal to have a treestand up when it is not deer season, at least not against g$f law maybe against forest service law to leave one up. -
Those are all my arrows, and that was one lucky Mt. Graham squirrel

Great character on that buck

Good advise guys! When I make a kill I am usually so full of adrenalin I can't remeber the detail a few hours later let alone a few years later, and since I am hunting solo so much I hardly ever get good pictures
