What Ammo To Use in my new .270 Rem Short Mag?
monstercoues replied to monstercoues's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Thanks for the info, I have heard the Win Silvertips shoot really well also. I am just trying to imagine how good it will shoot with reloads. I have shot Hornaday spirepoints through my old .270 and they did the trick for years, but I am not sure about the short mag. I am hoping someone who loads for this gun will give me what I am looking for. Thanks again. i know federal has like 6 offerings for a 270wsm, other than that i was gonna load some 140 accubonds for a friend, i never did he just decided to buy the federals -
It is going to be a tough hunt no doubt. You should scout hard and be lucky for the opportunity and not blame Game and Fish. If you want to see a change go to a commission meeting and address the commission. They make all the changes, the field officers don't have a say in it from what I hear. They also don't get paid overtime, they work long hours, and don't get paid jack, so you should be thanking them for doing what they do to help protect our wildlife and well heck giving hunters an opportunity to go hunting. If you don't like the number of hunters in the field, you should have put in for another unit, thats what I did. I have hunted 24A all my life and I put in for a different unit this year. Good luck and scout scout scout. It's all about the money. If they lump us together they only have to pay overtime to field officers for one hunt instead of two.

I would say you really need some help! The Tap Room and 2 Lanes are a good place to start looking! J/K It's a great unit if you know what you are doing. That is going to be a hard hunt, my dad and little bro have the same tag as well as my best friend and his grandparents and there dog skippy. It is going to be hard this year with so many people in the field and the mule deer hunt overlapping. Do lots of scouting and glass hard, it will be hot and they will be bedding early. Good Luck, Sorry I can't give GPS coordinates to good bucks.

Well I know exactly how you feel. I called them a few times before I went down there to put my new rifle scope on and have it bore sighted. They sounded like it was such a burden for them to do anything. The guy asked me if I needed my scope put on also, It is pretty hard to bore sight a scope if its not on the gun, come on people. It's like he had to ask to make it seem like it was more work for them to do, a simple chore like that and they charged me 20 bucks. Not to mention it took em about 30 min and in there defense, they were busy. Then when the guy brings my gun out from the back, he just leans it against the wall behind everyone walking around and I just had my baby re-blued and the scope was $1000. So I didn't appreciate that one bit, I was just praying someone didn't knock it over. Oh well, last time I go in there, and just being in there, I got a bad vibe from everyone else, they all had stone cold looks on there faces and I watched one guy who was asking to see guns behind the counter, almost stopped asking because the guy behind the counter had an evil look on his face like hurry up or I'm going to kill you.

Wow I can't believe you guys would say something like that. First of all we spoke with what we thought was the land owner and he gave us permission to hunt behind the ranch just like we told you in the field. So we were not knowingly trespassing, Second of all, we were on our way out because of you guys when we shot the deer. I am appalled at your response. If we were knowingly trespassing, why would we hike in from the highway instead of driving in there like you guys did. We were respecting the rancher who told us it would be fine to hike in there, as long as we didn't drive in on the road. It is because of hunters like us that work hard and obey the laws that we are rewarded at the end of the hunt.

Trail Cams for sale
monstercoues replied to coues7's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Here's another. If you go to the trail cam link at the beginning of this post these are some older camera's that I was building. They are HUGE compared to the smaller one I'm building right now. The new camera's are roughly larger than a wallet or $20. These are the larger units also. Here is a picture of both units for comparison. -
Trail Cams for sale

I don't have any in stock right now except for this one. It's my larger camera the CC-4160. It runs on 2-4 c-cell batteries and depending on which memory stick you have in it you can 2500 pictures on one set of batteries. I sell it to people who want a camera that they can leave in the field for a while. In about 2.5 weeks I will have some of the smaller units in also. They are super duper small. They are $450 for the large camera and $405 + exact shipping for the small camera. (yes I did raise the cost of the camera's because of added costs for the parts I use....sorry!) As you can see these cams have great 3-D camo and are identical to the Penn's wood camera except I make them and not some poor guy or gal in China. Let me know. These will go quick so please commit now.
