    Jake and Noah 2017 Javalina

Jake and Noah filled their 2017 Javalina tags yesterday in the Rincon Mountains. This was jake's first big game animal and Noah's second javelina. We glassed the herd about 1,300 yards away, almost every yard of that was uphill. After hiking up the mountainside we found the herd rooting around in some open grass. Jake took the first shot and put his javelin down and Noah followed up shortly after with another one shot harvest. We took some photos and then cleaned the javelin and started the mile and a half hike out. Another great day in the field with the boys!

    Dillon Tumbler & Separator

    Price drop $175 for both.
  3. I bought the Dillon CV 2001 tumbler and Dillon CM 2000 media separator last year and have only used them once. They are in like new condition and the tumbler has a load of once used corn cob media in it. Brand new the tumbler goes for $189.95 and the separator is $75.95. I'm selling them together for $200. I will not ship unless you pay the shipping. I live in Vail and can meet anywhere in Tucson. Thanks!
  4. Called a couple coyotes in this morning. We were only able to get a shot at one of them. Short day of hunting as the rain moved in.
  5. Noah (15) is an avid hunter and shooter. He's had two coues tags and was only able to fill one with a young spike. Since that hunt three years ago (first photo) he has dreamed about hunting coues and harvesting a mature buck. He has spent hours and hours developing a load for his Remington 700 .308 and practicing with it so he understands his limits. We started this season by scouting in an area we hadn't spent much time in previously. The area was very rugged and remote and we spent hours hiking back into it. We didn't see a lot of deer in the area but those that we did see were pretty nice. The second photo is a couple of the bucks we spotted, sorry about the photo quality. While the area held some good bucks, they were few and far between. The last few times we went to this area we couldn't even find any does. We decided we'd give it a try Saturday morning since we couldn't hunt Friday. After the long hike in, we spent hours on the spotting scopes and binoculars and only found one doe. We decided to make the hike back to the truck and go to an area where we usually see more deer. Later that afternoon we started our hike back into the second area. We spent a few hours walking up sone ridges and going from shady spot to shady spot to get out of the sun and try to spot a bedded buck. After a couple of hours and a couple of miles we found a lone buck slowly walking out of a canyon to a ridge line. We know we only had a minute or so until he would crest the ridge and drop into the canyon on the other side (3rd photo). I quickly ranged the buck at 441 yards and Noah dialed 3.1 mills of elevation into his scope. There was no wind so he held dead on at the buck that was quartering away. Once he was on target he took the shot. The buck jumped straight up and fall onto his left side and rolled into a little manzanita where we lost sight of him. Noah was shaking with excitement as he asked me if it was a good shot. We packed up all of our gear and hiked down across the canyon and up to the spot on the ridge where we last saw the buck. Sure enough, the buck was down in the tree where we'd last seen him. Not the biggest coues we've seen but a trophy none-the-less. We took a couple of photos and got to work skinning and quartering the buck so we could make the hike out before the sun set.
  6. I'm selling two Remington 11-87s. First one is a 11-87 Premier 12 gauge (2 3/4 & 3 inch) with a 26 inch barrel. Shotgun shows some wear on the blueing but functions flawlessly. I've owned it since it was new (1993). Asking $400 OBO The second was a Remington Sportsman Super Mag 12 gauge (2 3/4, 3, 3 1/2 inch) with a 28 inch barrel. This shotgun is real tree came. Functions flawlessly. Asking $450 OBO I live in Vail (southeast Tucson).
  7. All PMs replied to. The camo 11-87 is SPF.

    Noah fills his tag!

Noah drew the 6A Jr's cow elk tag this year. We didn't think he was going to make the hunt after he separated his left shoulder at his high school football practice. He had a significant labrum tear that required surgery. The 2-hour procedure left him with eight anchors in his shoulder socket tying his labrum back into position. 5-weeks after the surgery Noah's left arm was still in a pillow sling. All he talked about was being able to go out on this hunt. We did a couple practice hikes up in the Rincon Mountains and he practiced quite a bit shooting his .308 with a tall bipod that would let him sit and shoot. Friday morning Noah and his younger brother Jacob and I started to hike out from our camp at 4:00 a.m. We made it about two-miles from the road and we were surrounded by bugling bulls. We had to wait awhile for the sun to come up and then we started to move toward one of the bulls, hoping he'd have some cows with him. About 30-minutes later we found a cow on the edge of a meadow grazing. We closed to 180-yards when Noah set his rifle up on the bipod and took the shot. One shot did the trick and Noah had his second cow elk tag filled! Thanks to our friends in Flagstaff with the help packing the meat out to the truck.

  17. I've used the oven cure (H-Series) Cerakote on some knives previously, but wanted to try it on a rifle. Took me a few minutes to get over the though of sandblasting a nearly new S&W M&P 15X but it had to be done. Took quite a while to sandblast all of the parts down to bare metal. Next step was making sure all the parts were thoroughly degreased, this included using non-chlorinated brake cleaner, acetone and a short stint in the oven at 250 degrees to make sure all of the oil was pushed to the surface of the metal. I then degreased the gun again. After that I taped the parts i didn't want the Cerakote on and hung all of them on a rack in the garage. I used a Paasche airbrush and an Iwata high volume low pressure spray gun. I applied the Cerakote in two stages. The first coat was desert sand. Over the Desert Sand i randomly sprayed some Coyote Tan patches over the rifle. I flash cured this in the oven at 225 degrees for 15 minutes. Next i covered many of the parts with a mesh netting and then randomly sprayed over the mesh with Magpul Flat Dark Earth. I removed the netting and baked the parts in the oven for 2-hours at 250 degrees. I also did 4-magazines. My next project is going to be using the C-Series Cerakote (air cure) on the Aimpoint Comp M2 that is mounted on the rifle. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. Now to see how it holds up over time.
