Depending on the collision (and vehicle manufacturer) steering columns are meant to collapse in accidents. You can still turn the wheel usually but it’s wobble with a broken feel to it. Some vehicles have an igniter on the batter cable so if you wreck it blows the cable. If that happens your dead in the water.

Did your seat belts tighten? If all the bags and belts went off that’s enough cost to total certain vehicles.

I wear boots daily. They’ll waterproof on their own in a few months for my line of work. If you don’t work in oil and grease then I’d recommend wearing boots that are comfortable and using silicone spray.

A vice and a screw driver can make twisted tie wire. Once in my Jeep I broke the frame near the front shackle. Lost steering and was in river rocks. Used a come along, ratchet strap, T post, and wire to pull the frame back and hold it in place. Made it 30 miles back to the house.
