muledeerarea33? replied to Coues 'n' Sheep's topic in Cooking Wild Foods
I had lots of buffalo, just two of us. Ate on it for over 2 yrs. the sausage came out like crap. I threw it away last week!! I did run into a guy at the dump that took a few pounds for his dogs. -
Even though the pics I sent didn't make the cut, awesome video!!! Kinda got pumped watching it.

How many years is to old? And does it matter if its been made into sausage or does it just need to be plain? -
Looks good! Blueberries? I've never tried that. I always save a pack of back strap to eat at camp the first night of the next years hunt, that is if I tagged out the year before. Back straps at camp this year though!!

Great idea, thanks for the info. I read the whole site personally but I guess for the sensitive folks in the crowd that would be a great option. Then again, they'd pry complain about the extra step.

I try not to hunt with people who need a brake, also won't shoot next to a guy who uses one at the range. But haven't been to a public range in awhile. -

Hearing Protection

Never used them for a kill shot but use the always while practicing or spotting. I shot lots of rounds while younger and my hearing has suffered because of it, cig butts are not ear plugs!!! I use muffs now. At work, shooting, chainsaw, etc. gotta protect what I have left but, the kill shot is still open eared. -
I'm not really an archery guy, what the FOC are you all talking about? Could someone educate me on FOC and the other terms in this post? I'd appreciate the lesson, just for the FOC of it.

I doubt they did?

They're talking about your video on the radio! You've made it big Scott haha

Out and about yesterday I found several wild grape vines. About the size of a pea, in a cluster, and purple. Good taste except the seeds are most of it. Anyone ever do anything with them? I've been snacking on them all day and haven't died lol. I have pictures but can't post them

Those are nice for small batches oneshot but I prefer the 8 gallon reflux still. Hypotheticaly of course ;-)

We took some out the night of the kill and one more trip the next day. Yes, 1.5 miles each way. it was brutal terraingoodness!! I have a hard time with a coues, couldn't imagine an elk!

Heard this earlier! Good for them. -
Very cool story and of course very nice elk!! How many trips did it take to pack it all out? (Unless I missed it in the story) and were there no closer roads to pack to or was it 1.5 miles each way?
-
Haha! Half of 700 is 350, last boots I bought were 250. I like the way you think!

I'm sure it's out of my budget but I'm curious. What's it cost to have a chopper take you up and scout? Not necessarily for critters but more for water, locations for spike camps, etc?
-
Ha! beer30 curiousity can get dangerous and pricey! Better jot down thought and review in morning.. sounds fun though. need 1 of the big white United Nations choppers and we can all ride along! in all seriousness everybody should go for at least 1 ride in Helo.. you will either love it or hate it, I personally love love love it! for us with "special feet" like you and I, that per hour cost isn't much more than a good pair of redwings!!
-
I figured it was costly, mor of a curiosity than anything else. Thanks for the responses.

They'll still have leftovers, but the way people put in for the draw is changing, put in for a hard hunt then pick up a leftover and keep your points if not drawn. Gonna go fast from now on!
