It's the love of the chase more than the kill. The love of the howl of a good dog that you've spent hours training. Not lack of skill, sit behind glass in bear country and you'll find bear. Predator call for a while in bear country and you'll eventually find bear. Sit water for an indefinite amount of time after getting bear on your cam and you'll find bear. Different strokes for different folks. I love em all.

Bottom line is "it's all in the delivery"... You can convey a positive message my saying/showing things a certain way. It's all psychology, people are more receptive to certain things conveyed in a neutral manner. This "in your face" attitude gets the point across but fails to recruit. There is a bigger picture and a world that wants to do away with what we love to do. If you don't understand that, you are contributing to our own demise. Now, more than ever, we have to join as one. Reach out and invite people to learn about the outdoors and all the joys that come with it. Keep in mind, there are huge forces trying to do just the opposite. From peoples new lives that are more and more distant from the outdoors to the greenies and their agendas. They want to introduce wolves in the Kaibab for goodness sakes! Think its for sake of the wolves?!...no it isn't!

Anyone who thinks running dogs is just a "shoot" has never tried it. Probably one of the toughest ways to hunt IMO considering the toll it has on your body. Trying to keep up with dogs in bear country requires a lot of mental/physical conditioning.

As for the original poster, a rangefinder isn't "necessary" but keep in mind, most people overestimate yardages. A wiley coues buck isn't going to stick around very long after you shoot over his back.

This is kind of the Shepherd Scopes' concept except they have circles on the reticles of their scopes. If the animal "fits" in the corresponding circle, that's the holdover.

I was wondering how your deer hunt went. After all the excitement from the stampeding herd of buffalo I wasn't sure. Congrats on what looks like a fun and very successful hunting excursion.
-
Stupendous bull. I love evrything about him. Much congrats to all involved.

That had to be utterly exhilarating to not only witness the chaotic stampede but be IN IT! How thrilled were you upon making your dream a reality?...and in spectacular fashion! The adventure is in the hunt and what a hunt you had. Big time congratulations. Enjoyed reading on your success.

Congratulations on all accounts. Nice writeup and well written. I love the pic of the ram from behind. They look HUGE that way! Live it up, you deserve it.

I hate thieves. Best of luck in finding your stuff. Do a google search for pawn shops and remember to look outside Peoria also.

Very cool and congrats on your success! Got any photos to share?

It takes the guesswork out of a lot of situations. Even if you are keeping your shots limited to 300 yards, depending on where you have you rifle zeroed, dictates what your point blank range is. This is the maximum range where you can still hold on target and be in the kill zone. So, it's important to know if in fact you are shooting at something within that distance. 300 yards and 400 yards look VERY similar when looking across a canyon at a good buck!

Congratulations Hunter! Nothing like getting out in the hills with friends and family. Here's to your year getting better and better!

Very nice! I can picture the excitement as that buck stood up and bolted towards the camera. First you wonder if the deer will drop on it's own, then you wonder if you'll get shot, then you hope Ty makes the running shot! Great footage and congrats to both of you!
