    Senior Pics

It's simply about the area you go you high school. Inner city districts that consist mainly of faculty and superintendents that are no longer (or never have been) in touch with the outdoors and the tradition of hunting. To them, a dead "anything" conveys a violent act. To them, it's distasteful and well, whoever is making the decision is taking into consideration the backlash that may come from others including staff, students, and parents. They don't want nor need any negative publicity when they are in dire need of funding. My .02 cents.

Now Lark is gettin' all artsy fartsy with poems and such. Now I've seen it all. Before you know it, he'll be cookin' with rosemary and going to independent film festivals and sharing his reviews. He'll start buyin' purdy cowboy boots that hurt his feet and maybe, just maybe, he'll shave off that beard and keep a soul patch.

    cold cure

Try not to take too much zinc. It messes up your taste buds and well, I'd rather be sick than mess with them.

    dead

    Good analogy and good point.
  9. NoDinks, What you have failed miserably to realize is that it is YOU that is close minded and not receptive to other peoples opinions. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being the better person and admitting you have come across as arrogant and pompous. I'm sure you didn't mean to. As a matter of fact, you will gain more respect in doing so. Its ovious that you won't heed this advice but continue to somehow dig yourself into the perverbial hole even further.
  10. Hold on... I'm waiting for the post where Lark tells him how he REALLY feels.

For the record, I never saw the photo. From its description, I can only assume it was an elk with a winch rope noosed around its neck and hung up in a tree. I completely understand that practically everyone here is okay with that, not squeamish and have seen it done before. I don't think that's the arguement. I think it must have been posted somewhere else and got negative feedback. Correct me if I'm wrong. (?) I think many on this thread, like myself, are confused as to what the initial arguement is about. We seem to be pretty adamant about three different things, all seperate in themselves.
  12. It's the love of the chase more than the kill. The love of the howl of a good dog that you've spent hours training. Not lack of skill, sit behind glass in bear country and you'll find bear. Predator call for a while in bear country and you'll eventually find bear. Sit water for an indefinite amount of time after getting bear on your cam and you'll find bear. Different strokes for different folks. I love em all.

Bottom line is "it's all in the delivery"... You can convey a positive message my saying/showing things a certain way. It's all psychology, people are more receptive to certain things conveyed in a neutral manner. This "in your face" attitude gets the point across but fails to recruit. There is a bigger picture and a world that wants to do away with what we love to do. If you don't understand that, you are contributing to our own demise. Now, more than ever, we have to join as one. Reach out and invite people to learn about the outdoors and all the joys that come with it. Keep in mind, there are huge forces trying to do just the opposite. From peoples new lives that are more and more distant from the outdoors to the greenies and their agendas. They want to introduce wolves in the Kaibab for goodness sakes! Think its for sake of the wolves?!...no it isn't!
  14. Anyone who thinks running dogs is just a "shoot" has never tried it. Probably one of the toughest ways to hunt IMO considering the toll it has on your body. Trying to keep up with dogs in bear country requires a lot of mental/physical conditioning.

    Rangefinder necessary?

As for the original poster, a rangefinder isn't "necessary" but keep in mind, most people overestimate yardages. A wiley coues buck isn't going to stick around very long after you shoot over his back.

    Rangefinder necessary?

This is kind of the Shepherd Scopes' concept except they have circles on the reticles of their scopes. If the animal "fits" in the corresponding circle, that's the holdover.

    1st Kaibab hunt

I was wondering how your deer hunt went. After all the excitement from the stampeding herd of buffalo I wasn't sure. Congrats on what looks like a fun and very successful hunting excursion.

    Rangefinder necessary?

It takes the guesswork out of a lot of situations. Even if you are keeping your shots limited to 300 yards, depending on where you have you rifle zeroed, dictates what your point blank range is. This is the maximum range where you can still hold on target and be in the kill zone. So, it's important to know if in fact you are shooting at something within that distance. 300 yards and 400 yards look VERY similar when looking across a canyon at a good buck!
