Hard to gauge the width and obviously the mass. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say he breaks 190". He looks a lot like a buck we killed a couple years ago that went 195". Ground check him!

We were able to get out a couple times for the dove opener this year. Had some fun shooting and trying to limit out on the birds. I have to say, I do enjoy cooking and eating dove breast. I just finished up a plate for dinner too. (second photo)

I'm kind of looking for the same set up at the moment. I've been wanting something really light for deer, antelope, and sheep. "Pack in light, come out heavy" kind of deal. I just bought a titanium receivered rifle in 270wsm. I currently have a rifle in the same caliber that shoots lights out and very accurate with hand loads. This new rifle will weigh close to 1.5 lbs less than the current one I have. -
This sounds great! Way to think outside the norm. This would be phenomenal with quail and I WILL try it!

My AZ Bear- I still can't believe it!
Chef replied to ready2hunt's topic in Black Bear or Grizzly Bear hunts
Wow! Such a great post all the way around. Fantastic trophy bear, nice photos, well written story, and the best attitude a hunter could ask for. From the way you speak about your Dad and your hunting experience, you've got your head on right. Such a fine specimen of a bear, and 18 years old too, unbelievable. What's even better is that you have trail cam photos of him! Big time congratulations and thank you so much for sharing your adventure with us. -
Nice Tony. That's a neat looking mount.

Good questions n2horns. Hopefully someone can help you out with your dog.

The optimum chambering options for small deer like Coues will be different than those for elk and bear. You would be dealing with different bullet weights/construction depending on what you will be hunting. What distances will you be shooting out to? Consider the short actions, these will save you a little weight. Maybe a 300WSM, with a muzzle break to tame recoil. Take a hard look at the Tikka T3 rifles. They are light, and the ones I've shot are incredibly accurate. -
Whack!, headshot! Looks like he didn't go far either.

Just so everyone knows, I'm able to keep track of who opens the photo. Not only that, I can see how many times you download it and who zooms in. (just kidding!)

Great buck no matter the score. Congratulations and I can't wait for the full story.

I sure have! (back in 2002) I actually used a triple four also. 44 yards and the rest is history! -
Way to go Porter! Nice shootin'!

That's just awesome. You are a lucky man to have found a wife that likes to hunt with you. Did she finish off the lope with her marquise? LOL!
