I used to try all the bigger rounds but they just came out with the bullet path of a sling shot! I went to the 150 soft point and never had a problem with nocking the fluff out of an elk, even out to long ranges!
-
That is AWESOME!!! Good job with the pictures! Those pictures make the whole story! I love those big two points. What does that 2pt score? By the way, we all want to see the buck that you shot also!!!! Picture please.

What are the browns and whites going for this year? Price per pound? Who do you sell to? Do you sell them or what do you do with them? It's ben hard this year. Lots of miles and gitting skunked to many times. But when you find the right spot they seem to be everywhere! I hope the picture works. How do you make a picture smaller so it fits on here?

Josh, I sent you an email. Tines, I bet you, wish you would have found the other half of that shed. Sence it was in your secret spot and all.

I think you can download a measure form off of the Boone and Crockett web sight. It is a great set of horns! congrats!
-
YOU SAID... the mass and lenth was 360" and the spread looked to be 38" that is 398"! I just don't see that in those horns. I don't think any one else does either. Just how did you go about measuring him. Just a thought, the most comon mistake people make when measuring is to mesure the bases for the first mass measurment. And also to measure the last point twice, once as the main beam and then as the last point. Measuring like this will give a bull an extra 30+ inches. Not that that is what you did, but how did you do it?

This topic was looking lonely so I thought I would try to liven it up! : D Do any of you out-of -staters want to swap for anything? Coues deer, Archery deer, Javelina etc. ???
-
No, Don't be silly You take them on a hunt in your state, and they take you on a hunt in their state. Or somthing of that sort.

Cool little gadget. I cant stand a peep sight, makes me closterfobic (?spelling). I just use a kisser button and some other natural achor points. Just have to remember to bend at the hip on steep angles.

Hahahaha! My little girls give me puppy dog eyes all the time. Maybe if they looked like that I wouldn't give in to them!

Has anyone seen pics the Mattausch Buck?

NICE! Wow, did I mention NICE! Wow I'm going shed hunting in the KOFA's! Wow that is a NICE buck! I love it when you can get the one you are after. Congrats. -
His range will depend on his food. There is usualy water around do to tanks of every kind. (but not allways). Once you find what they are feading on and the area he is doing it in , then you can find which of the water holes he prefers. Use some trail cameras. His food will likely change allot between Jan and Aug and Jan again. Basicly spend lots of hr's scouting for these things and don't git discouraged. The more time you spend the better chance you will get lucky. I would start with, why he was where he was in Jan. It wasn't just because of the rut. Go find his antlers and post a pix for us. good luck.

I'm taking a big crew to NM for the April turkey hunt! But all this talk about hog hunting is gitting me excited. This would be a great time for that. I would like to know some of the info and costs you guys are talking about. Got someone with a 6B arch bear tag. I cant even get in there with all this snow at the moment. Don't forget about shed hunting!

22-250, 243, 6mm, 243WSSM, 25WSSM. Put a scope on it to give them kids all the help they can get. If you want them to learn how to use an open sight then do it with a BB gun or a 22 on close range small game. Not during a big game hunt. Just my 2-cents. Good luck

Yes there are many bulls running around without antlers. Just hard to find. I'll try to post some pic's later. I just developed some trail cam pic's from up to Feb 28 with bulls with big racks still on.

Are the number of hunters really going down so that the G&F think they have to manage the amount of hunters for the future? According to their data they don't have leftover tags when season comes around. So they obviously have enough hunters to meet harvest objectives. So no matter what they say they are not worried about the hunters. In the end it comes down to license sales, their pay checks and the whole money thing. If the number of hunters is really going down they are silly for thinking that this is the answer for the future of hunting. How does upsetting all the hunters they have secure the future of hunting? The future of hunting lies in one place. The home! They had better start in that direction if they really want to make a difference in the end. I hunted small game as a kid with my family, and bought my hunting licenses for small game and my fishing licenses while the G&F were still getting their money for their elk and deer tags from other people. The fact that the G&F were adding more and more elk tags every year had nothing to do with why I was a hunter. I never thought twice about the G&F while growing up as a hunter. They had nothing to do with my passion for hunting. It came from my family. From the Home! I'm sure the majority of you can relate to this. Why can't the game and fish see it.

Great Buck! Looks good to me!

Trail camera pics

What are the odds of getting quail and a squirl in the same picture. Thats pritty cool! Thanks for sharing. -
4 of us hunted for a couple of days down south. We filled all of our tags with big pigs, and saw about 40 to 50 javelina all together. The mule deer were rutting hard and we passed on a 24" 145 class buck and some other smaller mulies. Didn't get into much Coues deer action this time. I'm going back in a week to help my wife fill her tag and we are taking my two boys 7 & 9. We call it "woofing" allthough it's more of a big "uoofff!" Predator calling works great, but if you have ever heard a baby Javelina squall it is pritty quiet, unlike the way most people will blow a call. Loud works to, I'm just saying you don't have to over do it when you are close. Trying doing it quiet next time you are in tight and looking for that shot. It is less likley to spook other or lesser pigs in the area.

Holy cow! I can't belive you guys found my buck! Was my arrow still in him? Can I make arrangements to come pick him up? Just kidding! Too bad he doesn't have 5" eye guards, he would look more like a Coues. Great find!

Come on! Looking for more story here. Did I miss something? Is it over?

Oklahoma coming to hunt in January
Lance replied to okie boy's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I recently spent two days scouting East of Tucson. I saw 76 Coues deer and 28 of them were bucks! There was some good rutting going on! Can't wait for January! Get where you can glass (on tripods)and team up with radios. Watch out for mexican nationals. Shoot strait and hunt harder, smarter and sneakier than you have ever hunted before! And thats just for the Carp deer. (mule deer). If you want to jump strait into Coues hunting, your best bet is to hire a guide. Good luck! -
Great buck! And great pictures of the buck also! Congrats!
