Coues killed by a lion mountain
Lance replied to Rene's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Great Buck! Did you score him? That would not be my first choice on a place to hunt. Dead bucks and few deer is what I would expect to find on Lion Mountain. -
Archery Javelina in 27-32 and bear in 31! Lance

You said it Rembrant. I would have loved to hear Darwins first conversation with his heavenly father after he died. Who knows, maybe I did? It's prity cool though and I will be looking for tusks on every deer from here on out! Lance

A thought poped into my head when I read your question and I'll share it with you. If you have been hunting that area for 6 years and still didn't know where the bucks will be then maybe that area stinks and you should hunt a difern't area or unit. Some where that had more deer and less people. Or something like that? Other than that, I don't think they move much if there food and water doesn't change. They just hide better when the pressure is on.

6A sucks. It has some very big bucks but so does every unit. Do lots and lots of scouting!!!! There are very few Coues deer and fewer bucks. The country is not easy to glass and getting a good shot at what you glass up is even harder. The Mogollon rim and the big canyons in the lower Southeast quarter of the unit will produce the best glassing and the most deer. Keep an eye out for the new heard of bighorn sheep! And don't rule out Oak Creek. And speak up and tell us your name fellow Flagstaffer! Lance

My brother in law has the same setup I do in the 7mm RUM. With 140 grain factory loads out of a 26" barrel we get 3700fps! Is that deer 400 or 500? Who cares! Just put it in his back and shoot it will not drop enough to matter!

I'll have Tines post some pictures on here for me some time in the next couple of days. Thanks. My son Ty is 10 and it was his first deer.

You can find good balistic charts on the websites of the gunmakers like Remmington etc. I ment what hunt? As in, Nov. hunt in unit_____? I hunt Coues with a 7mm RUM. So that I can kill them when I want to or I can sneek closer if I want to! Theoretically

A 243 if a great round for Coues deer and no way is it too small. My son Ty age 10 just took his first deer and his first elk with a 243. The elk was a huge cow at 200 yards and the deer was a Coues spike at 500 yards! I belive many people on this site use them. What hunt do you have? Lance

Taking Photos of Your Coues Buck

Hey! Did you read our TLO-"Guide to Trophy Field Photos"? Just kidden with you, but you just about covered everything on our flier that we give to our hunters. Good for you. It's good to know that the word of good picture taking is getting arround the hunting world! Not many pay attention to it and it's too bad that these great memories and photo oppertunities are slipping by. Quote...."Few people will get to see your actual animal in person and fewer will get to see your hunt. This leaves pictures as the best and easiest way to share and honor your trophy!" Lance -
It started raining here in Flag arround 3 AM this morning. It rained, drizzled and rained some more all day untill just before dark! It is a great answer to prayers, we sure need it!

The Happening was great! I saw lots of friends and made some new ones! My two boys and I took 1st in all the elk calling divisions! Thanks to the ABA we all got new bows! There was only one other adult for me to call with but there were lots of kids in the Youth and Pewee class so I wanted to brag on my kids like a proud father should. They need some more people to call next year! There were prizes that wern't given out in the turky calling comp cuz there wasn't enough callers. It was good to see some of you there! Lance

This time of year the bulls like to pile up in the best meadows. Last week my son and I planed a route that would take us through several great spots realy fast. From first light to about 7:30 AM we spent a lot of gas miles and saw 90 bulls! Yes 90. About 10-12 of them were allready 350"class and bigger. It looks realy good out there!
