Been out to 31. Bears are not mooving yet. The big boars that come out first are hanging tight to the thick river bottoms eating the spring grass to clear their hibernate'n guts. If you hike the grassy bottoms and find sign, or if you find sign anywhere, then camp on that area because he won't be far away at all! We got tired of looking for bear so we did a bunch of predator calling. We called in 4 coyotes, 1 fox and one bob cat! We also got very wet from all the rain! A rain guage in Saford read 2 1/2 inches of rain from Thursday night to Saturday night! Loads of fun just to get out Lance

Over the counter archery deer tag gone?
Lance replied to bowsniper's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
People are always so quick to jump on the wagon and lay down restrictive laws when in the end it just hurts all of us. Everyone on both sides seems to agree, or has said straight out that the % of deer the archers are taking is not hurting the deer numbers in AZ. So why go to a draw if it is not in the entrest of the deer? There are a dozen other less restrictive ways the department could count and keep track of hunters. The only real reason left to go to a draw is to please those who are complaining of over crowding in some areas. And you know that is why because why else would they be thinking of doing the KP first. So why does the answer always have to go straight to restrictive laws that snowball into other restrictions! I think the pro's of leaving it alone well out weigh the cons and complaints for changing it. True, California loves to hunt archery deer in AZ. But as tough as it may be for some of us to swalow we are not the United State of Arizona. United we stand as Americans, God bless OUR troops and all that remember. Why don't we educate them to hunt somewhere else or spred out a little? We live in a world that is all about the one. "Generation ME." me me me! I want, I want! This kind of aditude and "the land of the free" don't mix it just turns into restrictions that enclude everyone. Have you ever thought a law was stupid? Well it probably is! But, because someone out there thinks it's all about them and cant controll themselves, we all have to pay. It's to bad that we couldn't clear this up with a little hunter education. (restrict ourselves!) It seems that the majority of the ones that want to keep it the way it is are also people who have restricted themselves and don't hunt the crowded areas, or hunt it in a way that works for them. Or not folowing the crowd, therefor not complaining about the crowd. I think hunters in general are a great bunch of people with their feet on the ground! This site is a perfict example of all the great people in the hunting world. We of all people should realise that restrictions on anything hunting should come as a LAST resort. I don't claim to have all the answers. Maybe this will a turn into a draw in the end. I hope it is not because some people cant camp and hunt right next to eachother without getting along! I don't think that is a good enough reason Maybe some things have been done or considerd but I garantee not all has been done!!!! I don't belive it's time to jump on the archery draw wagon just yet. Good luck on your moove! You might think about running your own Co. in Snow Flake. They seem to need new and more plumbers in that area. I run a plumbing Co. in Flag and several people/contractors have asked me to work in the Snow Flake area. Big and small jobs. Maybe I could hire you to run them for me? Maybe we should talk? Plumbing on the Mtn. is a little different than in Mesa but a RM should catch on fast. And when that vally smog starts to clear out of your system who knows what you will be able to do? Lance PS. CTR!

Over the counter archery deer tag gone?
Lance replied to bowsniper's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
None of the questions match what I feel or want. Where is the guestion that says "Just leave it alone!" ? OTC tags all the way!!!!!!!!!!!! For every hunting spot that is over crowded with archery hunters there is 100 more spots that are not! I find that the subject of going to a draw for archery deer came from the people who follow the crowds of archery hunters to the same old crowded hunter spots. Then they sit there and complane that they are the only ones that derserve to be there instead of finding a new place to hunt. There are millions of other spots to hunt in this state that are not over crowded or have no archery deer hunters at all! If we would just spread out a little and find new spots then we could spend more time hunting and less time complaning! I know this cause I used to be one of the complaning ones. Jim Zumbo got stoned for suggesting something that would take away one small part of our freedoms. I consider OTC archery deer tags to be one small part of our freedoms here in Arizona. I would sure hate to see it go because we all think we have to hunt the same spots year after year and no one else deserves to hunt there. This is a cosmetic option. Just something to think about. I heard a rumor filtering out of the G&F that there were 40% less elk and antelope applicants for the AZ draw this year! Anyone else hear this? 40 % is a big number and could make a big difference! Lance

I have had the oppertunity to share a couple of elk camps with Jim. He seems to be a good, honest man who obviously cares for the 2nd admendment. I won't hold this one thing against him. No one derserves to be judged by one thing. NO ONE is perfect. Lance

Why raise it? Are you kidding? That is what the public demanded at all the G&F meetings! It was at the point where everyone was out to get USO! They, the public, were throwing out all kinds of crazy ideas on how they could hurt or get back at USO. All the ones that included any kind of price raise the G&F jumped on because that is what they wanted or neaded. If the G&F just threw out a bunch of price raises then the public would stone them! But if they could sneek it in and put all the blame on USO then they could get away with it. They took the public's anger and ran with it! Sitting in those meetings at that period was like watching a lynch mob preparing for a hanging. You could yell out any hateful idea and they would cheer it on, not realizing they were cutting their own throat. Sorry you have never been a fan Diamondbackaz. Just some thoughts on the subject There are dozens of guides that use this site and are top notch great people! Some of the best! I'm sure they have helped you out a time or two. In fact if you have ever read or learned anything on this site then you could go as far as to say that you aren't finding your "own" animal. Aren't we all profiting from this site in some way? What do we think this great site is about? If they raised it to a 1,000. then wouldn't they be profiting off of our wildlife resources also. I meen, how far do you want to take it? It could go on and on.... Most guides I know just enjoy helping and would do it for free if they could. In fact they do it for free so much that it starts to take a toll on there family budjet. So it's nice to be able to do what you love and help others while helping pay the bills at the same time. Don't mock an honest working man. Any and every buseness out there takes advantage of something. Have you ever bought a hot dog? Well why didn't you go shoot your own hot dog? Why not rip on the plumbers of the world and say that thoes suckers are taking advantage of the fact that every poor person out there has to take a dump? Because it is as rediculious as talking down guides and the people who use them thats why! Just take it easy, to each his own and have a verry marry CHRISTmas! Lance

YeeHaw! This will be the first time I get to go archery hunting in Dec for myself for at least 6 years! I gess thats not a bad thing cause I usualy have a deer by now. I can't belive that I am so excited that I didn't get a deer yet! I usualy try to trophy hunt but I think I will shwack the first buck that steps out just for old times sake! Don't know if I will get to go on Friday but on Saturday I will be scouting new country in unit 22. After that I will probably jump between there and unit 10. Then on to 32 or 31 in January! Good luck to all! Lance
