Flagstaff area CWT get together BBQ!
Lance replied to Lance's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
YES THE 8th and 9th! It will be on the dirt road headed into Marshal Lake. Likely in the first 1/4 to 1/2 mile. There are many BIG camping areas on the South side of that road. I'll go early and claim which ever is open at the time. I can put up some paper plates that say "CWT" on them. Maybe other campers will think it is a "Cronic Waste Treatment" area and leave the whole road open for us! If there is any one who needs directions or has questions let me know! (928) 607-9380 As of right now I am thinking about grilling burgers and dogs Friday night around 8pm and whipen up some biscuits and gravy around 7-8am Saturday. Bring your own soda, chairs, toiletries and such. More info will be available by Monday or Tuesday. Lance PS. Bring your fishing gear! Ashurst is good as usual. Upper Lake Mary is producing some big ones (as seen in photoes on this site) And Marshal is like catching fish in a barrel!!! Bring your camera gear as well! The elk are everywhere and gitting some good amount of velvet! I saw 65 bulls this morning. (Ill post some elk pictures in the "Non hunting trips" latter.) -

HERE'S YOUR CHANCE TO VOICE YOUR OPINION!!!!

I think their question is tricky. So know this before you go! "More hunter opportunity" means lowering the success rates of hunters by degrading the quality of our hunts! Therefore being able to flood the hunts with hunters cause the hunt stinks and success will be low. We have already seen them do this, or try to do this in several ways and no one has liked any of it! I see it like this.- There are always many people, always complaining about not getting drawn. So, the G&F says, lets make these people happy by making it easier to draw a tag. Thats a nice thought, BUT.... the majority of these people are not getting drawn because they are putting in for hunts that are hard to draw! Why are they doing this? Because these are GOOD, QUALITY HUNTS with more TROPHY opportunity and that is what they want! If they did not want "Good, Quality, Trophy" opportunities then they would apply for all thoes hunts that are 50% to 100% chance of draw and be able to draw something every year, or more often. So.... It is clear that we cant give everyone who wants a early bull tag what they want. Same goes with mulies in the Bab and Dec. whitetail. But!.... It is also clear that degrading the quality of the hunts that these complaining people don't want, and are not applying for in the first place is NOT the answer either! So be carfull what you wish for! We only have so many animals to go around. The only REAL answer is to have more animals to hunt! So go and vote for habitat improvement! Volunteer for wildlife projects! PRAY for rain! More rules and regulations won't make it rain. Lance -

Took the family out fishing again for the umteenth time this spring but this time we took some pictures cause they were pretty proud of their catch! After loosing several fish to snaped lines we finaly got it into the kids heads that they had to take their time and play the fish in. We sat the drags loose and watched the fun as the kids had some great fights lasting several minutes with some big fish! We did loose about 4 fish do to pike teeth but landed plenty enough to keep it interesting! The four kids on the left are mine and the one in the red shirt is a nephew.

SGHA- Thoes fish are sooo full of mercury we use a metal detector as a fish finder!!! Thats our little secret We just took pictures for the kids and then turned them loose YOUNGHUNTER- Bring it on! I'm game, you don't have to twist my arm too hard! TWOGUNS- Small fish "Shiners" is what they are feeding on in the shalows. So we are using mostly small silver spinners. We went out again last night I'll post some pictures latter. Lance

Oh MY! OH NO! OH DARN Go figure HAha No realy, is there anyone surprised by this? I'm thinking, not really.... I just hope and pray they will get it figured out some day! Lance -
Choose a tree stand if you have a chance! you can hide better, see better and keep your scent out of the way better. But there is not always a good tree available. So you have to just do what you can. What many people don't think about while setting a stand or blind is what if a bunch of does come in first? What if you have to put up with many animals that you don't want to spook before the one you want comes in or presents a shot? I would much rather be in a tree stand in that case. Lance

So there I was just waiting for eather Tines or Younghunter to show up so we could go kill some turkeys in unit 8. Well, Tines showed up first and we went out on Monday. We located two toms in their roost before light and mooved in. We sat up the deaks and the video camera and got them all worked up! The first bird came out of the roost and came right in strutting the whole way! It was as textbook as it gets! we were done by 5:30 AM!
