    First trail cam set-up

I'm sorry Matty, that realy sucks! I put one out near a trick tank just before the weekend and after I was gone I thought "man that was stupid" It is about 200 yards off the road and the camera is really camoed good but still it was a busey weekend. Maybe if we covered them with something nasty like roofing tar or something that made you have to handle them with rubber gloves and a plastic bag? Then maybe the theives and the elk would leave them alone! Lance

    First trail cam set-up

YES!!!! I have slobers and teeth marks all over my cameras from elk You can watch the progress of the mallings through the photoes. Glad I'm not the only one who has this problem. Kind of a cool problem to have I love the way elk taste and they love the way I taste

    First trail cam set-up

Good job for your first set! Here is one I got a couple weeks ago. See the one in the back?
  7. My thoughts exactly! When I first saw it I thought he looked like a 95" buck. But then there is the velet factor so take off of that what you will. He looks like he has a little extra point in there. I'd shoot him! Lance
  8. We know your kiddin around. So is everyone. I think this heat wave is making us all a little loony The growth depends on where the bulls are somering. I know some areas are gitting hit hard with drought like where I have my archery antelope tag And the bulls are stupid for staying there and trying to live off of prairie dog droppings. But some areas actually have allot of green grass. From what I can tell units 5-10 are doing better than they did last year as far as grass. Like I said though, some areas are just nasty. (My son has a 7E early rifle cow tag ) But I have seen a handfull of mature bulls this year that we were watching last year and all of them are bigger or as big now as they were last year when they shed velvet. (I have a unit 23 NM Coues tag ) And rightly so because there is alot more green grass in those areas than there was last year.
  9. YES. I said September but I was thinking Aug 10th. And then I added it wrong as well and didn't even think about it. BAhahah! (Don't try to fill out deer applications and type at the same time) So actually only 50 days from the time I took the picture to about when he will shed Poor guy, his forths are only 24 inches (Hope that doesn't make me sound like I have a big ego, just having some fun!) Any way, the glair from my Archery Antelope tag for units 10 and 18 is getting a little dull. I better go and polish it again! Lance
  10. Don't worry dude. Let the fact that the antler growth is way down due to the drought ease your troubled mind Take for instance this bull.... It is hard to see in this picture but I think it is safe to say that he doesn't score 15" past 370 gross. (I have glassed him extensively) And it is already almost time to shed velvet. He only has two months to grow these poor pitiful antlers So lets just see..... Lets call him a safe and droughted 370" right now. I took this picture last week and I feel he will shed his velvet about Sep 10th. So that is only about 79 days of growth left. Dang that sucks! Some say they will grow 1" per day=370+79 but with this bad drought I really doubt that he will grow more than a half inch a day. Too bad I didn't draw a tag for that unit. But my buddy did, and my other buddy did and then we have four clients for that unit so I guess that will have to do Take care and keep your chin up! Lance (PS. corection, I mean Aug 10 and 50 days from the time of the picture )

    bucks are growing

Nice camera! I have just been taking photoes off of my video camera so they are low quality and not like yours. But they are easy to post cause they are under 100 K Here is a buck I saw last week right at dark.

best all around tripod set up

Try the "MANFROTTO 785B" I have one and have used it HARD for a couple of years over a few dozen hunts. There is nothing I dont like about it. It is like a combo of the "pistol grip" and the "pan head". You can pan with the touch of your nose! It is very light wight at about 1 1/2 - 2 lbs and I have used 15's and spotting scopes on it just fine! It collapses to 16 1/2" and extends to 5'. I bought the whole thing at the "Ritz" camera store in the mall for 80$ You can't go wrong for that price When I say I have used it HARD I mean realy HARD!
  15. The quality of these pictures are a little grainy but I wanted to show you how some of our drought bulls have grown. The difference between pictures is 22 days. These are some of the bulls I posted a while back. This one has the cheaters on both sides and his mains are now splitting making him an 8X8. this picture is from May and the next two are from June

    Bull antler growth update

Again with the 8pt. He has great mass all the way up! He looks like he will grow alot in the next month and a half! I only hope we can keep track of him once he sheds his velvet.

    Bull antler growth update

I got this picture of this big 6 in May and the next ones if you can see them are from 22 days latter. He was way off but looking through the binoes there was no doubt it was him. Among other things he has one short third and one long one.
  19. That is one AWESOME PICTURE That cow tank moss grows good racks Thanks!

    Who drew what?

My brother in law drew the archery Ibex tag last year and killed the #3 ranked archery billy on opening day. I have another friend that has taken two with his bow. Man that country is steep! But other than the country and the $$$$, I think Coues are harder with a bow as far as smart animals. He drew the same tag again this year so we will let you know how it goes. Lance
  21. Dang them! I hate thieves! I carve my name and initials all over my cameras as well. I carve it in deep and all over on every side! Haven't hade one stolen yet. But I don't put them in easy places either. Lance
