Spent some time scouting during last weeks snowstorm here in the Northland! Thought you might like to see some pretty pictures! Can you guess where? Lance
-
Doug, Elk run is a good guess. The bulls with the fence is in 11M. but out the North West side of town. Maybe for the homeowners sake we better leave it at that. No , the picture of the green flat is not Lower Lake Marry. And again close but none of them are from 6A. Lance

Bwaaaaahahahahaaa NO! OK, maybe, but only by PM first. Lance

kendrick park, and morman lake. and maybe behind the dorms behind thorp park. 7E Kendrick park is some of them with the Snowy Peaks and clouds And Marshal Lake 5BN is one of them. Mormon lake is Not. And Behind the dorms is Not. So we have 2 of the 5 units covered. I thought they would be more obvious on a couple of pictures. Anyone? Lance

Yes, One of the pictures is Marshal. And it looks like the fishing will be great there for the CWT.com get-together June 20th, 21st. But just the one pic is Marshal. Lance

Where Are You Going to be Opening Morning?
Lance replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I hear you Doug! Waiting for the sun to brighten it up just a little more! Where will he be? Looking here looking there. Did you choose the right spot to sit? Did you sneak in quiet enough? Is he within sight somewhere or is he over the next ridge? That opening morning anxiety coupled with that wonderful calm of knowing your on the hunt you have anticipated for so long and there are a million worse places you could be! And then there he is! AWESOME! I cant wait! Thanks for getting the blood pumping Doug! -

Lance replied to Lance's topic in CouesWhitetail.com Get-togethers!
If you have something to donate to the raffle just bring it and we will organize it beforehand. Planning on a mid day raffle again! AMANDA, Are you comming? Lance -
That was Thursday, Friday and Saturday were pretty fun as well! Any guesses on where Lance

Go up there and start scouting NOW! Drive Every road in the unit! Don't look for where the bulls are now, you won't really be able to start picking out most bulls untill 2 or 3 weeks before season, depending on where they live. But start looking for their wintering areas! Look for those places that they are going to be at the end of Nov. Most of those units are lower country or "winter range" and have resident bulls all year long. Did I mention start by driving every road in the unit! And start Now! Scout untill you have at lease 3 or 4 slam dunk 100% fool proof spots! Then scout some more! Only then will you be ready to go and have a really tough hunt. Welcome to the best site around! Lance

2nd annual Flagstaff area CWT get together!
Lance replied to Lance's topic in CouesWhitetail.com Get-togethers!
This "get together" is right around the corner! I hope you have marked your calendars! I was out at Marshall Lake and they have graded the dirt road in! I don't know if I have ever seen that pothole stretch of dirt, flat and smooth in my life! So camp trailers will be that much easier to get in! Does anyone have a problem with us cooking the same food we did last year for Friday dinner and Sat breakfast? Or any new food ideas you would like to contribute? Last year we grilled burgers and dogs and some people brought some sides and desserts for Fri night dinner. And for breakfast we had Biscuits and Gravy. If that still sounds good then we'll leave it at that. If you have any new ideas for food then be willing to bring it. Thanks! Remember the raffle! Anyone is welcome to contribute. All proceeds from tickets sold will go to CWT.com like last year. There will be.... Food! Several "Guess the score" contests. Horse Shoes Several archery competitions Big Fish contests! Raffle's Scouting Constant Hunting Comraderie Cool Mt weather and more! -
Yes , Yes, yes,... I think we all are aware of and know the benefits of fire. So while we are whining and complaning please try to emagion we are refering to the land that hasn't been loged and has too much fule that equals an unhealthy fire that kills the soil and washes away leaving baren rock landscape and all else that goes with it for years and years. And just let us get our gripes out for the day would ya! Thank you

Bunch of posers! All those stickers are cool! Thanks Doug
-
Oh great Thanks for the update and please keep us informed! Do you think there will be anything left of Southern AZ after this fire season? Lance

AMEN TO THAT!!! Why is there even a question? There is only one right thing to do! Call the number BRYCE CANYON provided!!!! Not to mention run them the heck out of your hunting spot before they ruin it any more! -
Oh Yea! You da Man, Kid! That is soooo awesome! Congrats and thanks for the story! Lance
-
Hey ! You got it done! Way to go! Congrats on a great bird! I know you worked hard for it. Do you guys still have some tags to fill? Lance
-
Any one notice the bearded bird that might be a bearded hen? I have seen allot of toms and some small jakes in my time and they all had the typical red head look and big waddle and all that the other two birds have. That bird had a big thick beard and maybe he just didn't have his blood pumping but it sure looks like a bearded hen? What do you guys think? Lance
-
Here are some pictures I got off of the video I took of the hunt! Thought you all might like to see some action photos! When they finally could not resest the sweet calls any longer they practically ran in! Anyone notice anything about the bearded bird on the left? The three birds surround the jake decoy but are behind the tree from me. Rob is also on the other side of the same tree! 10 yards from the flock! This is the confusion after the kind "warning" shot! Here is Rob finnishing the deal as the tom tries to excape! Note the shell in mid air! And then the race to claim the bird as it flops down the hill before it looses too many feathers!

Thanks for the comments guys! It was awesome! I went out with Rob "Basser15" this morning here in the Northland! But we desided to call it quits after 5:45 AM Keep your eye out for story and pic's Lance

Well, I just got back from a week of turkey hunting in New Mexico. It was tough this year and we had to resort to many creative tactics and log hard hunting days. But we were able to fill some tags on some great birds and of course had an awesome time! I hope you enjoy the pictures! Many hours were spent on stand waiting over turkey trails or strut zones. Here Scott tries to stay warm as the wind blows with the setting sun. Although we were not having much luck calling in toms, I called in hens once or twice and even three times a day! So it was still pritty cool! Here, a small flock of hens we called in walks by 3 yards in front of Scott!

2nd annual Flagstaff area CWT get together!
Lance replied to Lance's topic in CouesWhitetail.com Get-togethers!
Hows this? OK, It's not a very good map but it is easy to get there and we had no problem getting any of the camps or trailors in there. Take Lake Marry Rd to a point between Upper and Lower Lake Marry. Turn up the hill on the Marshall Lake Road. At the top of the hill the Marshall Lake road will turn to dirt where you cross a cattle guard. About a 1/4 mile up (Half way between the cattle guard and the lake) we will be down to the Left. This is the same place as last year. There is plenty of room to camp in this area and we do not expect to have any problems with camping space. The Lakes are full! -
