    when do antelope shed horns

Yes, Like the others said. They shed Every Year and they start sheding in Late Oct. I have seen more shed in early Nov and they are usually all done by the end of Nov. It is defentaly a Depretation tag you have and not a trophy hunt. They are not half grown yet. But have fun with it anyway, an antelope tag is an antelope tag! Lance

    JAVALINA RODEO+! TLO

They actually have tons of hair on them! Its blond hair and very thick all over but they look almost bald from a distance and in the pictures. I was very suprised to see all the hair when we walked up to them As far as the ears, I dont know, they were young pigs. ? They also had small tusks and their tails were very long, so what ever that adds up to, the G&F said whack them so thats good in my book . Two of them were pregnant sows so I'm sure the G&F will be happy to see them go! Thanks for all the great comments guys! Indeed it is so awesome to see all the extatic kids and their smiles! We also took the time to play with some predators! Here are a couple of the ones that joined our crew! Lance Family is Everything!

    Rattling and decoys

There are two things that are in your control. If these two things are not right to the best of your knowledge, then its your own fault! "Location" is one of the most important things! If there are no deer to call in then your just gonna get in some good practice at trying not to make your knuckles bleed. But once you have the "Location" the most important is the "Setup". What are you trying to do with the deer? Get him into bow range or rifle range? If you can see across the canyon to a buck then he can see you. If he thinks he can see all he needs to see from where he's at then he has no reason to keep coming in cause your not a deer right. There is no one way to do it but think of it this way,"He is going to come in tell he can see or determine whats up". If he can figure you out from a distance then thats your fault not his. Some times this is hard to do in an area you don't know like the back of your hand. Like any calling, some animals just don't care or won't care tell "their" situation is just right. And some animals will come right in no matter what you do. We all like those kind! There is a ton of write ups and videos out there to explain how to call and rattle. The subject has been beat to death, just know that Yes, Mule deer and Coues deer can be called in! The best thing you can do to learn how to call them or rattle them is to hear them call and watch them fight! There is no one way to do it. But experience will help you to know how and when to change it up! Lance

    OTC ELK TAGS! More pics!

Yea, it's definitely caused and or aggravated by the sandy country. I grew up in that country and have seen deer and livestock with it. We have also seen Southern AZ Javelina with it like mentioned. But this is just the first elk I have seen with it. I have been looking and looking for elk tracks like this and have just not seen one yet. I was beginning to think elk were different somehow. We have taken 17 sandy bottom elk in this area, 7 cows and 10 bulls, and this is the first one to have it. You should see what Cinders do to hooves Its the opposite effect! Ouch! WHAT UNIT ??????????????

Good comments AZOnecam. I always ask what hunt/unit? I don't want to know any secrets about where they hunted. They can have their precious secrets. I just want to put more story to the kill. If they say it was an early rifle bull hunt in a primo unit and they have shot a small 6pt bull then I can learn alot about their hunt they are telling about. If it was a small 6pt bull in a tough unit on a tough hunt then it may be much, much more of a trophy than what you can tell by looking at just the picture. If your gonna show a picture then, thats just a small peice of the story. If someone asks me what unit, I always tell. If they ask me where in the unit, now thats another story. But if askin "what unit", makes me a back side, that never gets off his backside then by all means, it sounds good to me! I could use a little back side sittin type hunting for a while. Lance

That is just fun right there! I think I am more proud of taking cows on the OTC hunts than taking big bulls on general rifle hunts!

    My December Buck

About time you made it out of the woods! My nerves couldn't take it any longer! Jakes phone wasn't working right when he killed the buck, but he was able to get a picture text out to me. And then just before the pack out he was able to call me and tell me what was up and asked if I would send the picture to his family members. I said I'd send it to more than that! Thast when many of your received the first picture, when Jake and Andy were still on the mountain with the deer. They didn't have cell signal after they left that spot. I called Ryan and let him know they would be late. When it got late Ryan went to an area and glassed toward where they were from many miles away. After a while he called me back and told me he had seen a couple of flashes of light way back in the canyons as if headlights were shining accross far ridges like when someone turns a corner on a mountain road switchback. But that had been some time ago and they should have made it to a part in the road where he could have seen actual headlights long ago. So we knew they had made it to the quads and had driven one of them. But we werent sure why they hadnt showed up yet. When Ryan saw the lights, was the time when Andy had gotten one of the quads and took it back to jake and the deer. We wernt sure if they had gotten flat tires, gotten hurt or what. We knew they could take care of them selves as they are both excelent woodsmen and medically trained but you just dont go to bed when someone is not "out" yet? So after some preyers and talking about it Ryan made plans to take his Rino and some gear and head up to look for them at 11pm. Ryan checked in with another local friend and let him know where he was going and then checked in with me regularly to keep me informed of his progress. Ryans last phone call to me was that he had found Jakes quad parked nicely on the side of the trail and it looked like Andy's quad had driven further up. Ryan said he was continuing up and would be out of good cell signal from then on. At 12:30 am I received a text from Ryan that said. "Found them!!!" I texted him back asking what had happend? But the signal was bad and Ryan couldn' get his text out. So when it finally came through at 3:00 am it said . "Not sure yet. They r walking toward me. Let you know." That was tourture! but I knew it was all ok and went to sleep. At 4:am A text from Jake finally came through that he had tried to send a couple hours before. It said .... " I finally did it guys! Hes amazing to hold in your hands..... I'll share details later but we glassed him up at 10am, shot him at 2pm, and we're finally pulling into camp (200am)!! I thank the Lord for keeping us safe and a good friend Andy for possibly saving my life on the absolute WORST (but worth it) pack-out imaginable! He went WELL beyond extra effort to help me get out of that hole okay....." I wanted to call him right then but knew he was sleaping and waited tell he was ready to call me. Wish I could have been there in person bud! Congrats again on an AWESOME BUCK and way to get it done guys! Lance PS. I quit using those dang water bladders years ago! Maybe they have some better ones by now?
  25. Thought you would enjoy some Winter Wonderland pictures from this last Arizona cow elk hunt! Many camps and hunters got stuck in the snow with this last blizzard that came through Northern AZ. Our thoughts and preyers go out to those families who lost loved ones! We killed a couple before the storm, then elected to stay home and drink hot chocolate during the storm. Afterwords we ventured out into an elk hunters "White Wonderland of elk steaks on ice"! These last two cows mark the 25th and 26th big game kills that I've been on in the last three months. I am truly counting my blessings! The deep snow made them very unique and enjoyable. Enjoy! Lance
