A young bull elk has been raiding my garden for years. The grandkids affectionately named him Stumpy. He grew from a spike into a respectable 6 point. Yesterday Stumpy was crossing the road on his way to the meadow and was hit and killed by a vehicle. I feel like I lost a member of the family. BUMMER !

My son and I were watching a pair of coyotes tormenting a antelope doe with two new born fawns. After putting an end to that with a 22-250. I came up with the Idea of stalking the doe antelopes with new born and waiting for a coyote to show up. Works great, in two days we killed several and scared off a few more.

I am surprised that so many bear would share the same area. I had another camera on the other side of the water hole but a bear chewed it.

Male and female, the bears are mating right now and are moving in pairs a lot. Bears like to chew cameras they can get to. Good luck

On these photos I used a cannon 7D with a 100mm-400mm zoom lens. The hard part is keeping the sun to my back and the wind in my face. Did not work so well with mama bear, she smelled me

The blue is big rough country. You will need a horse or mule to pack out an elk if you kill one very far from the one main road

In the north end of the unit ( above the rim ) You can hike one mile in any direction and you will encounter several cow elk. Filling a cow elk tag in September shouldn't be a problem . Or you can sit next to my garden at dusk and fill your tag. IF YOU PROMISE TO BAG AT LEAST TWO

If you mark out deer and write in Elk we would be right at the top.

After reading the 2014-2015 hunting regulation ,I see you can now keep the skulls and antlers from winter kills and other dead carcass as long as the are not fresh with meat and hair on them. Does anyone know if shed buyers can buy the antlers from said skulls? Thanks

I have noticed while out prowling around, the last couple of days in unit 27 & unit 1, a lot of the hens are through breeding and leaving the flock to nest. Some of the Toms are gobbling a little but I haven't see any strutting. Maybe it's the weather but I think the breeding is winding down, Seams a little early but everything is early this year. I think having no snow pack this winter really screwed thing up. Just my observation.

The first tom we called in could not get through the fence to our decoys Next set ,Thirty minutes later two toms came in with a escort of hens, My grandson Wyatt didn't shoot for fear of hitting a hen. Just like I coached him. Good kid About 11;00 after hearing a gobble two toms came in and Wyatt took the closest one. Wasn't the biggest bird in the woods but had a 8 inch beard. The first tom is the best tom.

Turkeys need to have water every day. Here on the mountain the normal routine is to fly off the roast, feed toward the water hole, the feed back up the ridges and slopes, They may not make it to water before midday but won't wait much longer.
