Bump for an amazing bow....I have the same only in 60-70 pound limbs. Great price too!

so I've been kicking around the idea of buying a long range rifle for a while. I'd like to comfortably be able to shoot 500-660 yards and over time reach out to 1000. Here is my question....option 1. I own a Remington 700 ADL in .270. Should I build off of that action with a new stock, barrel and trigger? I don't know much at all about guns as I'm mostly a bow hunter, but I look forward to learning through this process. Excuse my ignorance , but can I turn a .270 action into a .300 win mag? That will be my long range caliber of choice. Assuming I put on a $300 stock, $300 barrel, $150ish trigger then pay a gunsmith $200-$400 dollars to put on the barrel, trigger and muzzle brake I'm into the build for around $1000. Does that sound about right? Or option 2...buy a new savage long range hunter in 300 win mag. It already has the aftermarket stock, better trigger than I'm used to, heavy barrel and muzzle brake. I can get into one of those for under $1000. Option 3.... Buy a Remington 700 long range. Those retail for $699. It has a good aftermarket stock, heavy barrel, and again a better trigger than I'm used to. It would need a brake put on so with that cost plus a new trigger if I don't like the factory one I'm guessing that would put me right around the $1000 mark. Look forward to your guys opinions on here.

Lance, here is where it gets confusing for a novice like myself....to do the "work" you described to the .270 I currently own would cost $1,500 ($200 trigger, $400 stock, $400 barrel and $500 gunsmith). Would that gun be that much better than an out of the box Remington 700 long range for $700..$900 with brake put on or $900ish for a savage long range hunter? I don't just think it's as easy as buying a gun and hitting the gong at 1000 yds. I will put in the work, but I want the best starting point I can get.

I have a friend looking for a long range set up. He would prefer a gun and scope combo, but he's open to piecing them together. Only thing is....he's in a hurry to buy one for an October deer hunt. I thought maybe someone on here would have a rig that they've been thinking about selling but haven't posted in the classifieds yet? Or maybe something you're getting ready to post but just haven't yet. He's open to caliber and brand. Contact Brett @ 480-266-0238

He was in a hurry to buy a gun, figured I'd get the most exposure possible. He ended up buying a gun. Thanks to those who helped him out.

The search is over....he ended up ordering a "best of the west" Rifle/Huskamaw Scope combo. Thanks for all the offers and input. He said he learned a lot from those of you he spoke to.

I hear you guys....just doing him a favor. I started a post a few months ago about long range shooting and got schooled about everything involved.

These are approximate times...5pm, 630pm, 4pm, 10am, 10 minutes before shooting light was gone.

Ok cool, I guess I'll keep an eye out for it then. Thought it was taking a long time, but I wasn't sure since this is the first time I've applied in Colorado.

has anyone that applied for an antelope tag or a preference point in Colorado gotten their refund check yet? I got my deer refund about three weeks ago but still haven't received my antelope refund. Just wondering if I should call up there and find out what's going on or if everyone else is still waiting.

What make/model/caliber would you start off with? I am mostly a bow hunter, but I would like to buy/have built a rifle that will last me a long time and be able to reach out to 1000 yards. I want an all around caliber for coues, mule deer, antelope and elk. What could I buy or piece together for $1000? Or is that not even in the ballpark? That's not counting the scope. I'm sure your responses will lead to other questions I haven't thought of at the moment. I would also like to shoot factory ammo. At least at first unless I really get into long range shooting then who knows maybe I'll want to start making my own loads?

My home AC unit quit working last night and I need to have it looked at. Let me know if anybody on here owns or works for an air conditioning company. Thanks in advance!

Where from Goinhuntn??

Thank you guys for all the GREAT info so far....about 4-5 pages into the "classified" section there is a savage 111 7mm rem mag for sale. Not sure if it's still available or not I'll have to ask the seller, but would this be a good starting point? Seller is asking $750. If you more knowledgable guys wouldn't mind taking a look at the ad and letting me know if it's worth pursuing I'd appreciate it! Also, what would you recommend doing to that rifle if I bought that exact set up? Not asking about a scope at this time just the rifle. Thanks!!

I said in my original post "not counting the scope"

What model Savage do you guys recommend?

Thanks viper, I have an interview set up with Ron tomorrow.

I recently became a licensed real estate agent in hopes to make some money as a side profession. My 1st job is as an EMT. I was wondering if anyone on here is also a real estate agent? I'm currently looking for a brokerage to hang my license with and there are hundreds out there. I was wondering if anyone on here has any experience and could maybe give me some pointers on what brokerages to look at and which ones to stay away from. I'd like to go somewhere with a good training and mentoring program at first so I can learn all the in's and out's. I'm not to worried about the commission splits at this point, I just want to learn from a proven broker/agent. Thanks guys and good luck in the deer/sheep draw! Cody
