Another coueswhitetail sticker siting.
daryl_s replied to COUESAZ's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Okay, the file is too big and my photo editing program is down so I can't post the picture. Anyways, I drive a white '98 Chevy Blazer with my sticker in the back window. If you see me on the road honk and wave. -

Here's my ride with my CWT.com that I proudly display everywhere I go. The only problem is that I haven't been able to get out much lately, so if you see me out and about it's probably either going to or coming from work . I always hope to see some CWT.com stickers everytime I go to Sportmans (the one in Mesa). -
The first herd that we saw last Monday we watched for a while and then decided to blow on a varmint call to see how they reacted. The momma pig and her little piglets took off one direction and a few of the boars came runnin our direction. The biggest of the boars came in to about 40 yards and stopped, with that hair on the back of his neck standin straight up. He hung out and really got fired up whenever we blew on the call but wouldn't come in any closer. We couldve gotten a good shot about 30 yards had it been season. I have never had any success with varmint calls while javelina hunting but Ive heard that it works, so this experience was a new one for me. It was pretty cool. About a mile from that spot we decided to call and see if we could get a coyote, fox or something interesting to come in. We blew on the call and in a matter of seconds a big boar comes bustin out of a bush 20 yards from us. It turns out that a herd had been bedded down right under us and we didn't even know. We were up on some rocks and this boar stopped at the bottom of them about 10-15 yards away. I fumbled around tryin to get my camera out of my pocket but couldn't get it out in time to get any pictures. I got some good pictures of the first herd and will get them up hopefully tonight. I'm not as experienced as a lot of you guys on this site so something like that was totally cool for me and a good learning experience. My dad has the HAM hunt in February so Im gonna tag along and see if I cant help him out.

I went out last Monday with my dad to scout and we got into 2 different herds in unit 22. He has the HAM hunt there this year.

Mexico eases Travel Requirements
daryl_s replied to coueshunter's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Mexico
Well, from what I've heard down in Obregon is that Bours is doing an overall good job as governor of Sonora. He's really been pressing this whole tourism in Sonora deal and I've noticed a difference for the better in the trips that I have made down there. So hopefully he'll make sure that the road getsdone quick, and without any of the money "disappearing." -

azbow- Even if you have a passport you will still need to get the visa, but don't worry, it's just a piece of paper you fill out and they stamp it and you're good to go. I just use my drivers license and my car registration and it's no problem at all. I came back Sunday from Obregon and just south of Empalme I saw where they had all the cones set up in the road and the trailers there to do all the paperwork. It should be a lot faster than the setup they had before. -

I was talking to someone last night about this change and they were saying that in a few more months all of Sonora will be a free zone and not just to Empalme. I hope it comes true since my main destination is Obregon. -

I am in Obregon, Sonora right now and I got here yesterday[15th]. If you are going any farther than Empalme than you will need to get the permit. Also, if you do have to get the permit than make sure that you get your receipt for turning in the sticker. Yesterday they were trying to tell me that I never turned in my sticker from last time. -
I shoot a .243 100 grain and I'll shoot out to about 350 yards confidently with it. It has worked out great for me.

I couldn't agree more with you fatfootdoc. Very well said. I love this site and believe that 98% percent of the members on this site and very good people. I like to focus on the positive so I'll tell about something I saw the other day that makes me a proud member of this site. I was driving North on the Loop 101 in Chandler after work when I noticed a big truck on the side of the road helping another vehicle. It was a newer model Ford, F-250 I think, with a nice big COUESWHITETAIL.COM sticker across the back window. I wish I saw it in time to stop and say hi and see if I could help out. But it made me feel real good to know that in these forums I am associating with that kind of people, and I believe that most people in here are "that" kind of people .

Mason, Congratulations on your trophy. Live it up and enjoy it and don't let anybody ruin it for you.

I agree, $1500 is waaaaaaayyyy too much. The sad part is that someone with lots of money that doesn't know any better will probably buy it.

Awesome story, thanks for sharing it. The pictures are so much better when they are accompanied by a good story. Congrats again.

Congratulations to both of you on two excellent bucks. I bet it feels real good when you make a long trip and you are able to get a nice buck, congratulations Dave.

Thanks for sharing that really nice story. Congratualtions to Alex also. Hope you keep the good streak going in December.

.........the suspense is killin me......... cant wait to see this

My first coues buck was a tiny 2 point, and I mean tiny is an understatement. My second, which just came this October was a 3 point that is probably just under 70". So I will have to agree with recurveman about experience and what one considers big or nice, etc. This year I would have taken any buck but now I hope to improve a little next year and would be absolutely thrilled to get a crack at even an 80" buck. As hard as the hunt was this year I have more respect each year for the coues deer and how hard they are to tag.
-
Congratulations, that's an awesome buck.

This year in the October hunt in 36B I watched a doe and her fawn bed down about 75 yards from a very heavily traveled dirt road. A truck parked right between her and the road and even when 5 hunters jumped out of the truck she never moved. Almost all the deer I saw on opening day(all does) kicked up within 50 yards of me when I was walking. Also in the 36B hunt about 7 years ago my dad jumped a 100"+ buck less a 1/4 mile from our camp. The buck didn't kick up until my dad was just a few steps away from him. He was able to make a succesfull shot in time. I think that the deer don't really move farther out in most cases. I think that they mostly just hold tighter. Even so I still like to get away from the other hunters. I get pretty frustrated when I see hunters all over the place even when I know that there are deer in the area.
-
Hey Casey, I think that's cool that you got a deer even if it was a small one. Just think of all the people that didn't tag out that given the chance would take you r deer over no deer. Heck, I would've shot a spike opening morning. Congrats

I know the topic is getting old and is political but either way it affects us southern hunters and hopefully talking about it will help someone avoid a possible bad situation. Why shouldn't we talk about it if it is directly related to our hunting??? When my brother and I got our deer Saturday morning my dad carried 3 rifles back to the quads while my brother and I carried my deer. We left the first deer at the quads with my dad and headed back for the other deer. My dad stayed to skin the deer in the meantime. When my brother and I were coming over a hill with the deer we could see about 100 illegals walking single file right to where my dad was with the quads!! I told my brother that I hoped my dad had his rifle handy just in case. Right before they got to where he was the trail that they were on split to the East a little. They literally walked within less than a hundred feet of him without ever seeing him. We told him about it when we got back and he said that he put the rifles away before skinning the deer and while he was skinning he got this feeling that maybe he should get his rifle back out. Well he had it out and ready. He actually heard them walking by but never saw them. What if he had the rifles put away and they walked up to him???? He would have been completely at their mercy. It's a real bad situation down there and it's a political one, but to completely avoid the topic is unreasonable. This was an experience we had while HUNTING, so I am going to mention it when talking about HUNTING and I hope that maybe it will be of a benefit to someone else when they think twice before going out all alone. I know that based on the experiences from my last HUNTING trip I definitely will not go out there alone and I hope that nobody else does either.

My brother and I got our deer Saturday morning in 36B. It was my brother's first deer and my second. They're not huge but we were both very happy to get them. The deer were plenty fat and it took us 2 trips to get them back to the quads. The deer were together and we got them both at the same time. Mine is the 3x3 and my brothers is a 3x2. I hope I did the link correctly, there are 5 pictures posted. http://photobucket.com/albums/c277/daryl_s...unting05010.jpg
