Whats the dumbest thing you've done?
daryl_s replied to TATAat27's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Hmmmmmmm, where do I start???? The first one that pops into my mind is from this years hunt. After a very uneventful opening weekend we were back down there with a gameplan for Saturday of the second weekend. We had a spot that we planned on being well before shooting light that would give us a great chance at spotting deer. We were out on the trail to our spot plenty early. My dad was leading the way. We were planning on going up about 3/4 to the top of a hill and then from that point staying at that elevation and getting to the saddle on the other side. We started dropping down a little to get to the saddle and since I thought we hadn't gone far enough I said that I thought we should go a little further before we droped back down. Well, we went a little further and made it to the saddle. We crossed the saddle and started going up the other side. At this point the sun was just starting to shed light on the darkness and I thought to myself....." Since when does the sun rise in the West??????" At about that time we both realized what we had done. We did a complete 360 around the mountain and started heading up a hill that was right next to the truck. We were obviously both disgusted because we busted our butts to go almost nowhere and it was an area we didn't even want to be in. At this point it is very quickly going to be shooting light. I decide I'm going to get to the top of the hill we circled and glass the best I can from there. I hurry to an area where I can at least glass in the direction where I was planning on being. I get there as fast as I can to get set up before it gets to late. I made it in time to glass first light but in doing so I absolutely drench nyself in sweat. Needless to say I was freezing my butt off wearing a wet jacket and shirt. After a few hours I glass up three small bucks about 3/4 mile away. It just so happens that had I been in my originally planned spot I would've had a shot of about 300 yards. I made it to the next ridge over and couldn't find them again. They had fed over the ridge onto the other side where it was SUPER thick. I never did get a shot this year. The hunting was tough and the bucks were very few and far between. I messed up by not trusting where my dad was going and he should have shrugged me off when I doubted him. Even though we had not gone that route before he was right on course in the dark before I threw him off. I wish I had Casey's predicament . It still beats tag soup. There's plenty more.....but that's enough for now. I'm still young and I'll take this one as a learning experience. -
nope, no ads popped up for me...just took me straight to the video and played it....no problems at all. You might want to check the settings on your computer and make sure all of your security/virus protection stuff is up to date.

It's a photobucket link and worked fine for me without any problems....you must have already had something else going on with your computer.

Clay, your dog reminds me of a poodle my aunt and uncle had. Her name was blondie and she looked exactly like your dog. That poor dog lost an eye in a fight with a german shepherd over a bone, got stepped on by a horse and one time(unintentionally of course) dropped off of the roof. She was mainly an inside dog. She was TINY, weighed probably 4-5 pounds. Pound for pound probably the toughest dog in the world. Blondie lived about 20 years.

Daryl - you are killing me man! My two favorite college teams are 1) ASU and 2) who ever is playing the UA. I know.....but I gotta be honest. I didn't even go to ASU so I can't claim to be too hardcore. Just born and raised here. Don't get me wrong, ASU is my team all the way. Actually I ran track at Central Arizona College back in 1999-2000 and when we ran down in Tucson we tore UofA up...made THEM look like the junior college . Go Vaqueros!!!!!!!
-
That's too funny . You are correct...UofA leads the all time series...we're just trying to close the gap. In all honesty I like to see any school from Arizona succeed because it still reflects good on us as a state no matter which of the teams it is. I just can't stand to lose to UofA in football which fortunately hasn't been too much of a problem lately. I remember when UofA hired Stoops I was worried thinking he was going to turn them around and make them for real. Looking back that obviously wasn't the case.....How has he not been fired yet???? You guys need to get him out of there if you want to change your football fortunes.
-
There is nothing that can be said to console wildcat fans.............the final score is the only thing that matters........ASU 20.....UofA 17.
-
silence from wildcat nation....................silence is golden.................im lovin it.
-
gave us the game?????? I thought you guys didn't like us!!!!!! That was awful nice of you.....tell those guys thank you for dropping the ball when it hit them in the hands Especially Cason when Carpenter hit him in the hands a few times. A win is a win period...especially when it comes to rivalries...I gaurantee you that if UofA had pulled it off us ASU fans would never hear the end of it from you........how we were "owned" or whatever . poor play on both sides of the ball????? sure, there were some ugly moments but did you see the catch by Mike Jones by the sideline or the grab by McGaha at the goal line????? Or Brent Miller's catch on 3rd down on ASU's last scoring drive???? nothing short of spectacular. I laughed so hard at Stoops out on the field crying like a little kid every time the review went ASU's way. Highlight reel catches for sure. You might as well look forward to basketball season cause that's all UofA has. I'm gonna enjoy watching the Holiday Bowl on December 27.
-
Well........we earned the bragging rights for another year so we might as well use them . That is correct 7 of the last 9. Nine straight years w/out a bowl game for UofA, longest streak in the Pac-10. It's just too bad we can't get any love from the pollsters......lose to Oregon in Autzen when they are at the top of their game and ranked #2 and lose to USC when they are healthy and playing great yet get ranked lower than all but one 2 loss team......what a joke. Also, I think Georgia got ripped off big time...they've been playing great lately yet didn't move up at all when Missouri and WV lost. Leap-frogged by LSU just because that's who the media wants to see in the championship game.
-
yeah...it probably would of helped us a little bit if dennis dixon missed the asu game too. as far as trash talkin im not sayin nothin cause its a rivalry game and anything can happen. the weathers probably gonna make it a little more interesting too. go devils!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great buck, congrats. It seems in vain all the hard work but I'd much rather be over-prepared than under-prepared anyday. Once again, congrats. Daryl

I saw the picture of that buck at Sportsmans and it is a great looking buck. Awesome mass, just really cool looking.

Looking at getting a hand gun
daryl_s replied to IHunt2live's topic in Handgun Hunting for Coues Deer
Gotta second the XD-40 vote. I bought one last year and love it. 12 rounds of 180 grain hollow points should be plenty . I never head south without it, and there's been times when I was really glad I had it. -
Yah, You forgot a really BIG ONE Make of bow Welcome to the site Jason By the way! HuntnCoues is so full of Coues dudu that his hat turns brown after 3 minutes of wearing it. Watch out for that one Mike Where have you guys been the last few days????? Whatever you do don't bring up caliber choice

Happy birthday!!!! Thanks for the best website. Enjoy your trip. -
I read all these stories and am very entertained by them. As I am reading I try to think of some kind of story to contribute but nothing really comes to mind. I've had tons of great times hunting just nothing really weird. So anyways........my dad and I leave my house at 3 AM this past Saturday to go scouting for our November hunt in 36A. We get to the spots we want to glass from just as it gets light enough to glass. My dad forgot his tripod so I let him use mine since he's using 15x Swaros and I'm using the featherweight 12x42 monarchs. I do the best I can without a tripod and manage to find two bucks about 1000 yards out. I only see them for a few seconds, just long enough to tell that they are bucks. I also manage to find a spike and later a doe on the hill in front of me. At about 10 we meet up near the top of the next hill North and set up to glass on the other side. Nothing. We head down the hill and get on the main road heading back to my car. We are about a quarter mile away when something unusual somehow catches my attention back in the bushes off the road. Now this is a main road through 36A that I know will be heavily traveled in the upcoming Oct and Nov hunts. The road had also just very recently been scraped. So I start heading off the road towards this thing I see back in the bushes. My dad gives me this weird look and says "Where are you going?" He hadn't seen anything. I said "Hold on, there's something over here." Once I thought I knew what it was I said "Dad get over here." He walked over to where I was and when we were about 40 feet away it was very clear and obvious what it was. That's as close as I got to it. Now I wish I didn't have anything to contribute to this thread. I came across something I never ever hope to find again out in the desert or anywhere. It was the body of a person laying on the ground probably 30 yards or so off of the road. I won't describe it but from that distance it was very obvious that it had been there for at least a few weeks. There was no bad smell, I think that's why it hadn't been found yet. There's lot of trash, water bottles, clothes, backpacks, etc down there and I really don't know how a tiny glimpse of something from where it was caught my eye. Needless to say it was not a pleasant experience and it was disturbing enough to me to almost not make me want to go down there anymore. I marked the spot on my GPS and I called the Pima County Sherriff and gave them the coordinates and told them roughly how to get there. They called me that evening and let me know that they recovered the body. They said that it appeared to be an undocumented alien who died of dehydration. There are two sources of water within a quarter mile of where he was laying. Saturday night I did not sleep well, I woke up about 3 or 4 times and I think probably snuggled in a little closer to my wife . It's an image I will never be able to erase from my mind.

Sounds fun but I got the November hunt in 36A this year. -
Congrats, way to get er done. You've killed as many big game animals in the last few weeks(2) as I have in my life. Go get you a big buck this fall to complete the hat trick.

Welcome, cool pictures......Is that a jackrabbit runnin' up on those deer in the last picture?????? I saved it and zoomed in and it looks like a jackrabbit running right at that one buck.
