They never mentioned it but I watched in super slow motion and the second extra point that Zendejas missed was so low coming off his foot that it looks like it skips off the back of one of his lineman before it even got to the defenders. I think both teams are going to be a lot better next year. Foles is one heck of a quarterback and I believe they said ASU only has 13 Seniors on their entire roster. It should be another great game next year.

WOW, what a game!!!! You really can't pin it on the kicker though. U of A should have had about 5 picks in that game. Both teams left it all out on the field and it's hard to ask for more than that. I'm an ASU fan but I've got to give props to Foles for sticking around to shake Erickson's hand after the game. Or maybe he was just asking about a possible transfer next season .

Jake, that buck is awesome. It's even better that you were able to share your hunt with your dad and that you both filled your tags.

Casey, way to get it done in a time of adversity. That's a beautiful buck. I'm sure your Grandma is very proud of you.

The story is every bit as good as the bull itself. Great write up and a big congratulations.

my boy shot his first Coues deer in 24a

Congrats to your son. That's a great first coues. Good luck on filling your tag tomorrow. -
I love this idea. I have never been to PCH but my 4 year old spent some time in the NICU of another hospital when he was born and it's tough to go through as a parent. The things that these doctors and nurses do is nothing short of amazing.

"WANTED"Local Radio Control Glider Club looking for a place to fly
daryl_s replied to Big Browns's topic in Classified Ads
Every Sunday morning I see planes flying in a field by my house. It's off Hunt Highway right after you go past the Florence Anthem where the road curves right before Attaway. There is a turn off but I don't know what the place is called. This should give you an idea of where it is. Open the link and zoom out one time. http://classic.mapquest.com/maps?city=Flor...AZ&address=[2901-3199]+N+Hunt+Hwy&zipcode=85132&country=US&latitude=33.058239&longitude=-111.485525&geocode=BLOCK I hope this helps. -
My brother in law got his first deer ten minutes into legal shooting light this morning. This was his second deer hunt. It killed me having to stay home this morning because of an injury I have. It was cool to get the early morning phone call, though. My dad took him to the same spot where I got my deer opening morning of the October hunt this year. The plan was to get in before light and be glassing within shooting range of where we knew deer would be. Sure enough, the first deer they saw was a little 3x3 and my brother in law Johnny made a perfect shot at 271 yards. The deer died within 10 yards of where he shot him. Rarely does a hunt go exactly how you planned, but in this case it did. Congrats Johnny on your first deer!!! I wish I could have been there. It's going to be the first of many. Here's a weird little story. While they were looking at the deer in the binoculars they saw him pick up this skull. Odd, huh? He was actually holding the skull in his teeth when Johnny shot him.

That sounds like a lot of fun!!!! You should name it "Coyote Knoll"

OUCH!!!! That one hurt just reading your story. What a total bummer. BTW, congrats on the weight loss so far this year. I need to drop about 25-30 myself.

Great job, Matt. Way to work hard until the last day to get it done!! That is a great trophy right there.

Emergency communication with the BP
daryl_s replied to Ace High Benny's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Casey, I know you would obviously know the answer to this but I always kind of figured that BP monitored pretty much every channel on the normal run of the mill 2 way radios down south. A few years ago in 36B we heard someone call out on our 2 ways that they had found someone that was dying but still alive and if there was any BP listening that could help them out. Someone we assumed to be from BP responded within about 10 seconds asking where they were. Maybe you aren't even allowed to say either way, which is cool if that's the case. -
I really must have been at the bottom of the pile. I got my 5th choice for javelina. They handed out 622 archery tags for 33/37B in the draw and I was tag number 611. I'm definitely happy to go hunting though.

Great story and write up. I have known Glenn and his family since I was in diapers. Tell him Daryl Swain said Hi and congrats.

Love the thread. Most of what I know comes from doing things the wrong way at some point or another. Just a few that I can think of off the top of my head. I had a December tag in 2008 and knew where I wanted to hunt from my preseason scouting. When it came down towards the end of the year I decided I would go to work Monday and Tuesday and then try to fill my tag on Wednesday which was the last day of the season. My dad had the time off from work already so we decided he would go down on Monday and spend the next 2 days watching "my" deer. He calls me Monday morning at work and tells me he's been watching "my" deer for over an hour and that he's bigger than we thought. Later in the morning somebody else is shooting at my deer and he sees the buck run off and we never know if he was harvested or not. I hunted Wednesday and never saw a buck, tag soup. I should have gone hunting Monday. The following October I hunted the same area and had a nice 90"+ buck right where I thought he would be. I got some video of him but decided to stay back until he bedded down instead of moving in right away. I watched him for over an hour until he bedded down. I made my move from a little over a half mile out and no sooner than I started I see a white blur bounding over the hill and gone. Two hunters walking right down the middle of the ridge on the skyline scared him off, they never even saw him. I should have slowly started making my move when I first saw him. January of this year I am down in the same area again with my bow. I see two spikes, a doe and what I believe is the same buck I was after in October. I am up near the top of the hill and they are down in the lower area. Every single thing about the conditions was perfect for a stalk and it just felt like everything is finally going to come together. There was the slightest breeze in exactly the direction I needed it to be. It had rained all day the day and night before so the ground was very quiet. They were in very small rolling hills allowing me to come up from the opposite side of another hill and come out very close to them. So I stalk in and kick off my boots before I come up the backside of the hill. I wasn't exactly sure where I needed to come up but end up coming out at exactly the right spot. I had what I believed to be a 40 yard shot and this buck had no idea I was there. To this day I don't know where or how I missed this buck but I blew it. If I hadn't found a bone dry arrow with no blood or hair you wouldn't have been able to convince me that I missed this buck. I replayed that shot in my head a thousand times over and kicked myself every possible moment over the next few days and even weeks. I will never again hunt without a rangefinder. From these mistakes I was able to do things a little different this time around and actually was able to drop this buck less than 40 yards from where I watched the other bed down last October: http://forums.coueswhitetail.com/forums/in...showtopic=21692 This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to my mistakes but these are the most recent. I am sure there will be many more to follow. If you're not making mistakes then you're not out hunting enough.

Wow, I can't believe I got my 5th choice for javelina. Really???? I must have been all the way at the bottom of the pile. Archery in 37B/33. Still excited either way.

Not to mention, I bet it bothers your dad more than it does you that he has to teach you this lesson. I say that because I have 2 boys who will be able to hunt in the next 6 years or so and I can hardly wait to take them.

I bet these aren't the responses you were hoping for right???? I drew my first December tag 2 seasons ago and hardly even got to hunt because work was so busy. I have a wife and kids that I have to provide for so hunting had to take a back seat to responsibility. What you learn in your youth is what is going to stick with you for the rest of your life so it's best to make sure you get it figured out when you are young. First we work and then we play, that's the way we spend our day
