That's a great day of hunting. Casey, you should try the 55 gr v-max. Hornady factory loads are about 3200 fps.
-
You're right. I got caught up in the moment and didn't think of that. I changed my first response.

Anybody that takes the time to go hunting has no excuse for not taking the time to know the rules of what is open and when. Before I go out bow hunting I always double and triple check that the unit I plan on being in is open. Hopefully they were hunting for something like coyotes.

That is a very cool buck. It's like everyone says about "the look." I wouldn't hesitate at all to wrap my tag on a buck like that.

The only problem I see here is that you are insinuating that anybody who takes a long range shot is not hunting or isn't a hunter. Well, what do you consider long range or not? Does a 300 yard kill make me a hunter and a 400 yard kill make me not worthy to be called a hunter? Where do you draw the line???? Does a 60 yard archery kill make you less of a hunter because you couldn't get to 20? Does taking less than 10-20 days mean you didn't put in the time to be worthy of being called a hunter? Does being done with my hunt at 7:30 am opening morning make my hunt less meaningful? If you saw a 110" buck walk by in front of you on opening morning while you are glassing and stop broadside at 30 yards with no idea you are there, would you shoot it? Wouldn't doing so go against what you have said you believe about hunting? By the way, I have no problem with your style of hunting or how you choose to do it. To me it sounds like you are very dedicated and very good at what you do. It just rubs people the wrong way when you arrogantly suggest that their way is the wrong way, or that you are better than them because you do it differently.

That is an outstanding buck, very cool looking!! Congrats.

Bump $700 Just had surgery and need the money. I found another 10 rounds of hornady ammo with the 55 gr v-max that I will also throw in.

A 2011 coues hunt for my 12yr old son?
daryl_s replied to Kel's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
The early juniors hunts in 22 or 23 are the best hunts possible IMO. I believe draw rate is about 50% or better and it is any antlered deer. Success rates on these hunts are as good as anywhere. Makes me wish I was still a junior hunter. -
Great write up Andrew. Way to stick it out and get your buck. Hunting with family is the best. I'm almost 30 years old and my dad is still my best hunting partner. Great 3x3 for a first buck.

Excellent buck and excellent shooting. Congratulations!!

Let me start by saying that I have taken shots that I shouldn't have. I believe I have learned from those experiences. A lot of what I have learned has come from reading about shooting, hunting, and other techniques from a lot of you here on this site. When I started hunting I didn't know what I was doing and it was just lack of experience. I have learned a ton from you guys and what I have learned I have tried to apply to my hunting trips since I joined this site 5 or 6 years ago. I am a much better and much more prepared hunter now because of it. I think most people, not all, on this forum will agree with you and are responsible hunters. The only thing about a large % of these hunters that you are talking about is that they will never see or hear what you said here.

Rick, congrats to your daughter on a beautiful buck. I can't wait for the day that I can take my kids hunting.

Scope has been sold. Rifle is still available.

I have a Walther P22 that I am looking to sell. I bought it brand new this year. It has had a few hundred rounds down the barrel. Gun is in excellent condition. I am not looking for any trades. I can email pictures if you would like but gun looks the same as a brand new gun. I will include the Uncle Mikes holster that I have for it. $250 You can PM, text or call me at 480-458-7263. Thanks, Daryl

When my dad was trying out some different bullet types and weights he had one particular bullet that had tighter groups at 300 than it did at 100 yards. Could this be an example of what you are talking about here?? Good info by the way. Thanks for sharing. And +1 on what Lark said, my head hurts a little

That's very cool. Nice work.

Man, you guys really get into this stuff!!! I did not attend ASU. I cheer for them as a fan since I was born and raised in the valley of the sun. The ASU-UA rivalry is fun but in all reality I like to see any Arizona school do well when it comes to the national spotlight. I hate that the PAC-10 gets looked down on as an inferior football conference so I like to see the conference as a whole do well, especially in bowl games. I ALWAYS cheer for ASU when they play U of A but if U of A basketball program returns to an elite program, which I believe they soon will, then I will like to see them go deep in the tourney because it looks good for the state of AZ, a state that has been beat up in the national news for political reasons. I love this state and will probably be here my whole life. I didn't attend either school so that's probably why I don't have some deep hatred like SunDevil.

This is not a picture of my gun, but this is exactly what it looks like

I forgot to add that I have a Box of Federal Premium 140 gr Accubonds that I will include also. And don't forget, the .270 is the best round ever made. Just ask Lark.
