I agree with everyone. Thanks, Jeff

Anyone seen the proposed regulation changes on NM G&F website?? One of them is dealing with mandatory post-season wildlife survey. It basically says if you drew a elk or deer tag, or held a furbearers or trappers tag and do not do a post-season survey for each, then your application for the next years season will be denied!! What do you all think about this? Hopefully it is not already passed. It shows a beginning date of August 1, 2006. Jeff

Does anyone know if there are any good 3-D shoots scheduled this summer?? I sure like to try to make those in the off season to keep up the skills. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks

GILAMAN, Are you doing the Black Widow raffle again this year? Those sure are beutiful bows. So beutiful in fact that they look like they would make a guy want to sell the old training wheels and buy a real bow

GILAMAN, Yeah, ya know that sometimes a spot is found that everyone wishes they had. Some guys are lucky, others are just good! Jeff

http://www.mangusbowmen.com/photos/fell_1.htm Here is a link to a photo of my first Coues buck. I took him on Thursday the 12th while sitting over a water hole. 20 yard shot, double lung, the buck only went about 50 yards and I watched him go down. I was in tree stands for 7 days in three different spots and saw bucks in all three locations. The day I harvested this buck I got into the stand a little later than I wanted, about 8:00 and actually seen this buck chasing a doe about 8:45. Three hours later he approached the tank from the direction the doe had lead him off from and the rest is just a blur. From looking at the teeth he looks like a pretty old buck. This pic doesn't do him justice because his left antler has some other "stuff" on the main beam you can't see from here. I reckon he is probably past his prime and on the down hill slide as far as his anlters go. We rough scored him about 85". I tell you what, this is my first Coues as well as my first deer with a bow and I am hooked!! Jeff

Yeah, NM is a poor unit for cousies, especially 24. Too tough to find em there , better stick to AZ Jeff -

Younghunter, The deadline for the general draw, deer, elk, antelope, etc is April 8th, 2006. The deadline for Oryx, etc has passed (Feb 4th). Good luck, Jeff -
Thanks guys, appreciate the info. Those two and three day shoots sound great. Great website by the way GILAMAN. Jeff

Scott, Thanks a lot. If I can find the funds to get an AZ tag I would definately be interested. Coues hunting is great. I think I was hooked this past summer just doing my scouting. Jeff

Things are starting to heat up

Well, it looks that way, but only time will tell. Thanks. Have you gotten in the big buck contest that Cobre FFA is doing? I heard that with the multiplier for coues that a 100" coues will beat out the leading mule deer so far. I am going to try to enter before the 1st. Later, Jeff -

Shiras, Actually, my wife drew Unit 23. I will be doing it myself, although by the end of the hunt I may be wishing I had used his services! I know the area pretty good so she should have a good chance. Jeff P.S. Tommy, that buck is huge!! (Coues) Gets me pumped up for January! -

Great story. Is that buck still in velvet?? I thought they are all hard horned by now. Anyway, getting ready for the rifles. My wife has 23 2nd hunt. Hopefully I can get her on her first buck. Jeff -
Hey Bhawk...... I agree with crazy on this one!! I wouldn't be spreading that one around too much. Just be glad we don't run into game officers much in this part of the country, because around P.A. surely is 24. Unit 23 runs on south and west side of HWY 180. You were about 10 miles too far north!!

Thanks for all the good information guys. I understand the point made about the number of days relatd to the cost! That is one of the reasons I am considering it. Kevin: I am in Silver City. I have drawn a Unit 24 Coues tag for Jan 1-15 here in NM, first time to hunt coues. Never hunted them but from the scouting and shed hunting I think I am already hooked! Jeff

I am thinking about hunting Coues archery this winter in AZ. I looked on the Game and Fish website, but still have a couple of questions. Do I need to purchase both the General Hunting License and the archery deer non-permit tag? If this is so, why? So, I would be looking at about $240.00??? Also, I live in SW NM and so I was thinking about hunting in either unit 27 or 28. Any ideas on these units, right along the NM/AZ border?? Thanks for any help. Jeff
