The Deadline is in... What did you put in for?
1uglydude replied to DeerCraver's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
You are guaranteed to draw that 34A tag, so you'll be deer hunting. If you weren't, your third through fifth choices wouldn't have got you anything. None of those hunts have any tags left to go into the 3-5 pass of the draw. Since you're new to big game, you may want to read up on some of the "how the draw works" tutorials. -
Get your kids ready to hunt without devolping bad shooting habits

Also if you reload look at the reduced loads that Hogden publishes on their site. Using the 4530 powder you can make 300 Win Mag loads kick like 308 and 7 Mag that kicks like 7mm-08. One of my kids shot a cow last year with a reduced load in a 300 WSM and it dumped her really well without all the recoil. I believe that the powder Hodgdon recommends for reduced loads is H4895, not H4350. I have developed reduced loads for the 223, 243, and 30-06 with Trailboss and light for caliber bullets that group fairly well and have nearly the same point of impact at 100 yards as full powered hunting loads. I love the stuff and it doesn't kick a bit. -
Gauging interest. Zastava M85 mini mauser imported by the FIME group out of Vegas, meaning it's a bit prettier and more polished than the Century Arms imports. See the photos below. Rifle and bases only. I had a gunsmith polish the action and make the trigger clean and crisp. The grouping in the photo is pretty typical of what it can do with my hand loads. Factory remington shoots well out of it too, but not quite as tight. About 75 rounds down the barrel. $435

I'll give this one bump. Thought I had it sold but fell through.

It's got a 3-9 Redfield Revolution that I wI'll throw in for an extra $150. I'm in Gilbert. 1:12 twist. I haven't shot anything bigger than 55 grain.

If it's chambered in 300 savage, then I might have to find a way to sneak it into the house. My grandfather had an older model 99 in 300 Savage. I loved looking at that gun when I was little. When he died it went to my uncle, his oldest son, who no longer hunts and has no sons of his own. I'm sure it's going to end up in the hands of one of his pansy son in laws someday.

Anyone have last year's detailed sheep hunt report?

Send me a PM with your email address. If you don't have it yet, then I can send it to you. -
El Nino is believed to increase our winter rain...in some years, but it's impact on the spring rain and summer monsoons is unclear. Many studies say it might actually hinder monsoonal flow. So I wouldn't get too excited about how this declaration will affect antler growth...which depends on a whole lot more than moisture anyways.

Look at Budsgunshop.com and search for "weatherby sa-08 youth" This is about $150 than you were planning on spending, but I don't think there is a better shotgun out there in this price range for small-framed shooters. Stop in at Bass Pro or Cabelas and have him shoulder it and you'll see.

Sending a PM on the large rifle

Last year it was the same day that the first turkey season opened...which is tomorrow.

I know there is a difference. I'm just saying it's the "Hopi" tag because if I just say "5A archery" some jackwad is going to "wait a minute! I applied for that tag in the regular draw and didn't get it." Happens every year. I won't be hunting anywhere near any Hopi land.

5A early archery cow Hopi tag for me.

Just thought I would see if anyone has any knee fired 7mm08 brass they would be willing to to part with. If so, please send me a pm and we can talk terms.

I purchased some sandy loam from Pioneer Rock on Guadalupe between Gilbert and Cooper when I did my raised beds a few years back. I mixed in 20% compost. In the bed that I wasn't going to use right away, I also mixed in a couple bags of steer manure (you don't want to do that if you're planting seeds right away). The whole transaction was easy, I just pulled my truck up to the pile and they filled the back up.

No, they added a hunt, but instead of 800 tags (in 22) for one hunt, there are now two hunts with 400 tags each. Same deal for 23, but with different tag totals. NO they moved the hunt later got rid of October and moved the to NOV see where it says -285 for 23 and -400 for 22 and then it says +285 for 23 and + 400 for 22 with the date moved from oct to nov James Sorry, James, but you're wrong. Look again. They moved 400 to the new hunt, leaving 400 in the October hunt. They took 285 from the old hunt, moving it to the later hunt. I was at the meeting and have been a part of the discussion for some time on this change.

Wait, you mean there's a formula they follow!? Shocking. Do they also have public open houses where they invite the public (including all these guys who question everything) to come and see the data and hear their explanations, because that would be amazing. I've been to every open house in Region VI for the last four years, and none of these Phoenix area guys who are complaining have ever been there. I know that because it is nearly always just me, my buddy, and a couple animal activists who show up. But, it's easier for these guys to complain than it is to attend and be part of the process.

I may be interested. Let me see if my Flagstaff contact is planning a trip down here before turkey season.

Kinda getting off topic, but I will second that. I love RL17 in my 270WSM, and it's looking promising for me in 270 Win too. I'm not sure where they are squeezing out the extra fps without giving me pressure signs, but it's definitely there. (3350 fps with a 129 gr Barnes in the WSM)

Not sure if you're still looking, but Healy Arm's website says that they have it in stock. They're on Country Club, just south of Guadalupe. Good guys.

For the fall draw last July, results were posted exactly two week after the first credit card charges. That being said, there don't seem to be nearly as many technical problems with this draw as there were with that one, so they might get it out sooner. The notion that they wait until after the expo to avoid whining is complete BS. Whiners are going to whine. As evidenced by pretty much every other post on this forum, there's always someone bawling away about something.
