Game & Fish Commission meeting webcam archives?

Nope. They are one of the few government entities that doesn't seem to think it is important make them available. You either get it live, or you get the bare bones meeting minutes three months after the fact. It wouldn't be hard to have them archived on YouTube, so they must have their reasons. Well then, that leads to question #2. Would it be a problem to record it and post a link to it? I recorded some portions of it and actually found it quite interesting. Especially the vote at the end for the trail cams. "Motion, second, against, for, withdrawn.." Huh? It was a public meeting. Post it up. You're describing the motion process under Roberts Rules of Parliamentary Procedure. It sounds confusing in person, but there is a method to it. Sometimes the Commission itself has a hard time keeping it straight...one reason they have an attorney on hand.

Does everyone have their popcorn ready??

Agreed, the justice courts often only have a few forms used for various types of complaints. Would be interesting to know what the contributing to delinquency charge is all about? I wonder if an adolescent relative helped him transport it?

Does everyone have their popcorn ready??

Very true. Let's not forget that these cases are often brought in the justice court for the jurisdiction where the alleged violation occurred. Here, that would be home court advantage for BC777. Also remember that justices of the peace are not required to have any prior legal experience. They are often simply politicians who are looking to boost their political pensions by getting elected to a six figure position a few years before retirement. Most parties in justice court are not represented, but if you hire a good lawyer, especially one with local contacts, he can often talk circles around the JP and get you off simply because the legal arguments go over their heads. Moreover, bear in mind that Blake's dad Roger is a local politician who is currently serving with the fire board and has run for county commission. Some of the confidence the Owens brothers have might stem from the fact that they know the matter will be heard by an ally of their father....that's the way things shake out in small towns sometimes. Finally, convictions can be more difficult in communities like Heber where there is a general distrust of all "outside" agencies and land managers...AZGFD, USFS, USFW, etc. With all that in play, he's probably right, he could very well escape this. Game and Fish is allowed to impose a civil assessment even in the absence of a conviction, but they often don't, or even if they do it's something light and short of a suspension of hunting privileges (take Marlon aka "Grey Light" for example. He had a lawyer help him avoid his conviction and then got off with a straight up $8k fine and no hunting privileges taken away at the Commission). If Blake's dad has the means to help him fight this, then nothing may come of it and he'll have a great story to tell anyone who will listen about how he was "unfairly targeted."

field point? Maybe broken? Looks broken, which makes the lack of blood all the more suspicious. That's a heart shot right there. How could you hit it in the heart and then have it react with such force that it breaks the shaft and still have zero blood? Answer? You inserted the arrow after the heart had already stopped beating.

Only one person brought your father into it. The rest of us are just criticizing the fact that you resort to religious credentials to defend him. Those of us who share your affiliation are among the most disgusted by that. Don't drag us all down with you.

Your dads a poacher and a liar, your brother is a poacher, liar and thief . . . How far from the tree did you fall?Hopefully that sheep is cleaner than that poached muley. My dad is a poacher ? You have no idea who my father is . Let me tell you a few things about my dad ! My parents have been married for 42 years . My father is one of the most amazing men on this planet ! They broke the mold with him . I have heard my dad cuss one time in his life and he said dang (is that even a cuss word ) ? My father is very active in his church and has has some of the highest calling there are . He is a school board member , fire board member and a well respected member of the community. So to say he is a poacher and a lair couldnt be farther from the truth ! O yeah another thing my father taught me was not to shoot a 300 bull on a 3c hunt . Publically claiming someone is a good person based on the prestige of their church calling is a pretty sleazy thing to do. I think we have all seen "virtuous" men with important callings justify away their dishonest actions based on their perceived standing with God. The question of whether you are honest with your fellow man is not measured by a subjective standard. I've seen stake presidents who were absolutely dirty businessmen. I've seen bishops treat their wives and kids like crap. heck,my former stake president was busted in a prostitution sting. The fact is, everyone is imperfect, but when I hear someone name drop a person's church calling to imply that they have good character that's an automatic red flag.

Here he is, alive and well: https://www.instagram.com/macoutfitters/?hl=en Well I'm guessing no conviction. It's been less than a year. Court proceedings take time...especially when you have federal firearms and federal wildlife charges to prosecute.

If you look at the entry wound on the deer where part of the arrow is sticking out there is not a single drop of blood anywhere. Strange. Almost as if the arrow was inserted after the heart stopped beating.
  11. Please forgive my wandering mind, but as I sit in my little girl's hospital room tonight, I felt compelled to type a bit. The last couple of months have been a real gut check. Gabi got her Kaibab doe on October 13. That was a good day--really the last good day I had before today. See here for photos: http://www.coueswhitetail.com/forums/topic/76019-little-girl After taking her doe, she couldn't wait to chase javelina and use her late season cow tag in the coming months. On the drive home the next day, however, she got horribly nauseous, feverish, and felt intense pain. We had to stop at the gas station at The Gap for a while because she couldn't handle riding in the truck. We eventually made it home and after 24 hours her symptoms went away. Over the next two weeks she had a couple similar episodes with one on November 2nd putting her in the ER. That evening they did an ultra sound on her abdomen to rule out appendicitis. At one point, the technician got really quiet and then quickly left the room. She returned with the head radiologist and they huddled together over the screen quietly whispering to each other. I'll never forget the feeling I had when the radiologist turned to us and said "we see a solid mass thst appears to be coming from her pancreas." I was standing at the time and I instantly got sick to my stomach. I nearly passed out and somehow found my way to a chair. (Photo of MRI below) She spent the next 10 days in the hospital on fluid nutrients as they tried to figure out what the grapefruit sized mass inside he might be. We went on a rollercoaster of theories...cyst, tumor, cyst, "we don't know," cyst, to "let's just let her rest at home for two weeks and we will see what happens." Luckily, I had a friend who knows the chief of surgery at Phoenix Children's who fit us in his schedule a few days later for a second opinion. Once again, they went back and forth on what they thought it might be. Finally, they felt like it was worth the risk to take a sample and we leaned that the mass was actually a large, cancerous, pancreatic tumor. This morning they removed the tumor along with half of her pancreas. The doctor had a nurse record the actual removal with his phone. It was the size of a softball. They have confirmed the diagnosis of cancer, but they are hopeful that it was confined to the single malignant tumor. We will know in a few days if they will recommend chemotherapy. She didn't grt to use her javelina tag, and there is still time to donate her elk tag, but the last two months have been a solemn reminder of what is important: On October 27th she weighed 62 pounds--she's now down to 49 pounds. She will miss 90% of the school days in the Fall quarter. At one point, she slept for three days straight, waking only to use the bathroom and force down some water. When she was awake, the tumor compressed her stomach so much that she couldn't eat more than a spoonful of mashed food every hour or so. After learning she had cancer, and that her cancer is so rare that most oncologists will never see it in their career, we spent another 10 days waiting for the right specialist to be available to perform the procedure. When we came to the hospital this morning they told us to prepare for the possibility that that they would have to take her entire pancreas (instant diabetes) and spleen (ultimately they only took half the pancreas and left the spleen). Now we await the decision on chemotherapy. Each time we think we are near the end of this we get smacked down and learn that it has only begun. It's been heck. But we have also had opportunities to see how many people love Gabi and our family. We have seen both small and large miracles as we have been guided to the right professionals, been in the right place at the right time, and had people say the precise words we needed to hear in that particular moment. Just 25 years ago my kid would have been given a death sentence, but we live in a time where the odds are now heavily in her favor (all except for contracting a one in two million form of cancer, of course). Today was a good day, and we have faith that we will have another good day when they give us the verdict on chemotherapy. At some point, she will get to hunt elk like she wants (and that will be a good day too), but for now I am hopeful that we will get a Christmas present of a chemo-free holiday, at home away from hospitals and needles. If that happens, then I'm going to kick back and soak it in because I've learned that I have been taking those simple pleasures for granted for far too long.

Drew general archery deer Fillmore Utah

Driving south on I-15 you go from Fillmore to Beaver. Lots of jokes on high school road trips about going through the "Fillmore Beaver" area.
  13. Thanks for sending Keith our way. Gabi had a great time and I was really proud of how well she did in rough conditions. She'd never actually seen it snow before, and there she was hunting and camping in it. She's got a 4a youth elk tag in October, and she'll likely draw the 36B youth deer hunt. I'm finding that I enjoy hunting with my kids more than on my own tags.

    Why I buy points

I need to start thinking about Wyoming antelope, especially as my kids get older. I have 11 LE Deer points in Utah, 10 general deer preference points, 9 bull elk, antelope, and mt. goat points. The other nice thing about Utah is if you know you aren't going for a few years you can get two years worth of points out of the same license...all you have to do is make sure that you buy it near the end of the draw cycle on the first year and then buy your points at the beginning of the draw cycle the next year.

    Help for first coues hunt

Guys, I assume he is asking because he's from Utah and won't really get a chance to get out and scout before the hunt. If you're planning to hike into the wilderness, then either of those units will produce deer. It may take some time to find a large buck, but they're there. I haven't hunted 21, but 24B offers multiple points to access the wilderness. I've spent a lot of time on Google Earth picking apart areas near the river in 21, and it looks pretty promising, but I don't know what the roads are like in there. In 24B you could probably get cell service from just about any of the peaks...I don't think the same could be said for the areas near the Verde in 21. Also, you can also find a lot of good information on hiking and backpacking the Superstition Wilderness on Hikeaz.com.

  17. Someone PM'd me asking for an update. It took a few months, but she has finally gained back all of the weight she lost. Honestly, she seems to feel perfectly normal in every way, which is really a miracle. Things could have been so much worse in so many ways. When we took her on the youth javelina hunt two weeks removed from the hospital she was no where near being back to normal. She tired after walking only a few hundred yards. Thankfully, the folks at Youth Outdoors Unlimited too her under their wing and made sure we were hooked up with the right folks to find pigs that she could access without too much effort. She got her first javelina on opening morning, but it took just about everything she had. In early April she had her first scan and follow up appointment with the oncologist. So far, everything is clear. They want to do quarterly scans for three years, so she's still got a way to go before she can be called "cured." The oncologist explained that because she lost half of her pancreas, they are as concerned about the pancreas healing as they are about the cancer returning. Apparently the pancreas will take several years just to heal up in the areas that have sutures. Fast forward to a few weeks ago, and we took a trip to Universal Studios. She bounced and ran and jumped and squealed the whole time. We were there when they opened the gates and they closed the gates behind us. I was dragging, but she could have gone all night. It was a wonderful sight. I have attached a photo of her javelina and one from April when she showed her lamb at the Maricopa County Fair.

    Bad Neighbor

I have a long history with my neighbor. He's inconsiderate, condescending, takes up the whole cul de sac with his vehicles and equipment, and even extended his driveway onto my property one weekend when I was out of town. The real kicker was last summer. He likes to store his garbage cans up against the side of my house (using the aforementioned driveway expansion). One day I see smoke coming from that side, so I walk over and his garbage can is fully engulfed in flames. It was already half melted. I can't get a hose to that side of my house, so I run over and knock on his door--he doesn't answer. I knock louder and start yelling--still nothing. I run over and get his hose and start dousing the fire. Once I get the flames down a bit I am able to pull the can away from my house. If my house were not made of stucco I would have lost it. The eaves were singed, but thankfully didn't light up. The guy finally comes out of his house. He heard his water on and wanted to know who was on his property "messing" with his hose. He saw what had happened, claimed that he had never put anything in his trash that would cause a fire (insinuating that either my kids or I had done it), swore up and down that my house was never in danger, and never once apologized. I'm just waiting for him to die. I figure he's got maybe 15 years of mobility left, at most.

    Utah

What made the mountain goats harder to draw was the change 5 or 6 years ago that allowed everyone to apply for multiple once in a lifetime species in the same year. Used to be you had to pick and apply for goat or moose or bighorn, etc...Now you can apply for all of them. Applications for mountain goat went up by like 1200%.

    Draw question

5....not enough to draw an archery strip tag in the bonus pass round, but enough to be in the bonus pass for an October south Whitetail tag. He won't be considered in the bonus pass for the whitetail tag, so no worries. This is exactly how I play it now. I don't rely on leftovers anymore.

Mr. Heather Big Buddy Propane Heater

Ran a Mr. Heater in a 10x14 Kodiak this past weekend at the junior turkey camp in Unit 1. It was my first time using it. I also ran a long hose with an external tank. I was paranoid about killing all of us, so I took a portable carbon monoxide detector and kept the windows a lot more open than was probably necessary. As was mentioned, it has an O2 sensor, but you can have plenty of oxygen in the air and still have a dangerous amount of CO in the area. I left it on low while we slept. Because I had the windows cracked so much it was still a bit chilly in the tent, but it definitely took the edge off. When we woke up I just closed up most of the windows and cranked it up to high while we dressed. We had high winds most of the time and snow on Friday night. The heater melted the snow off of most of the roof. The kids had heavy bags, but said they were totally comfortable all night. Mr. Heater doesn't recommend using the devices at elevations over 7k feet because the O2 sensor might cause it not to work at higher altitudes, but we were at about 9k feet and it worked just fine. Next time I want to get a small battery operated fan and hang it in one corner of the tent to see if it will circulate the warm air a little better.
