One if my good buddies drew 6a general.
-
I drew a Gould's tag with 11 last year. Best of luck to you guys! I just bought a point this Spring.
-
Congrats! The best $300 charge you will ever see.
-
Drought and coyote in 21. I had one if the tags last year and it looked like they were coming back pretty well. Watched a few different herds and left a couple great bucks out there.

I spent some time with the game specialist for that region and her advice was to hook up with the southern AZ wild turkey federation and help with the game and fish survey. I don't have the date yet but it should be within 60 days of the start of the hunt. She said they could use the help, and it's nice to pick out your gobbler ahead of time. I've never hunted that unit so I am going to need all the help I can get.

Bob has sold the business to a guy out of Idaho named Trevor. Real nice guy with experience as a government trapper. Bob is sold out of cages but Trevor has a few sets.

I got tag #13 for that hunt with 11 points. I'm going to try to get out there for the survey in the Spring. Good luck out there!

I helped with the capture and relocation in 37a. The oldest ram was a five year old. The youngest was not quite two. No mature rams were moved. I spend a ton of time in the Picachos and there are old sheep trails and petroglyph images of sheep all over those mountains. It is going to be great seeing sheep up there where they belong.

Looks like I finally caught a Gould's tag.

That thing has a pretty open curl, could be close to 170, hard to tell how much mass it carries down on those pictures.

Arizona Bill Would Ban Mountain Lion, Bobcat Hunting
azspike replied to 87lc's topic in Mountain Lion
I think a big thing to remember here is that there is no way to win and argument with the anti-hunters. It isn't even a conversation worth having. Many of them are just as dedicated to stopping hunting as we are to protecting it. The only audience we should be interested in is the majority middle and the undecided. Being respectful about the topic of mountain lion hunting, and focusing on the existing laws and regulations should keep people voting with some sanity. Most people don't know that game and fish set any rules for hunting and that the population is monitored by several methods including mandatory check-in of every lion harvested. Lions are not endangered, and are increasing in population with the current laws protecting them. It is also a fantastic game meat. Banning game and fish from managing this population is ilogical, expensive, and huge risk to delicate populations of bighorn sheep that have been extirpated from their native range due to the presence of humans and introduction domestic sheep. I spend most of my time with a very left leaning crowd of people, most of them have a net-negative view of hunting. But explaining how the game and fish biologists monitor population, instead of rallying against this proposed legislation, has helped me to show several people how silly a yes vote on this topic is.im really glad I logged in here and saw so many people here already talking about this. I guess I am a late comer to the conversation. -

Over 50 years of application denial and finally getting to go!

Man, that is awesome! Good luck out there. -
Picacho Reservoir?
azspike replied to bowsniper's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
My understanding is that there are some local politics issues with the water district. So someone put up a bunch of US Gov no trespassing signs up along the canal. Technically there is an easement along the canal and the powers that be can put up no trespassing signs to keep people from traveling on that easement. These signs run all the way from San Carlos lake to Casa Grande. I have been told that since the lake is state trust, the signs there have no impact on access. I drive a road in Coolidge regularly with one of these same signs, the road is on private land and maintained by the property owner, but San Carlos keeps hammering in signs. The south end of the Picacho Lake is private land, but I have never seen a sign there. Anyone saying the lake is closed, saw the signs and turned around. Probably the safest thing to do. -
I was only about 3 miles from my Jeep when I shot mine this year. Field dressed it and hauled it out whole. Drove straight home, about an hour, and skinned it on my back porch. I am getting a full mount this year and managed to skin the whole thing from the one cut on the belly leaving the skull and hooves attached. The skin went right to the freezer. With the rest I cut out the backstraps and skirt steaks/belly meat for stewing/chilli and put in the freezer. Two quarters went into a gallon freezer bag for later cooking. Two quarters into a slow cooker. Covered with beef broth and bay leaves and cooked on low for 12 hours. This then was shredded, some with BBQ sauce for "pulled pork" sandwiches, some into tamales, and some I scrambled with eggs for breakfast the rest of the week. I will do the same thing with the other quarters at the end of May or so.

Well, it was worth a shot. Get a hold of Foxpro, they will take good care of you.

I know that you said you just bought it, but try changing out the battery in your remote. I have a Hellfire that does something similar when the battery is old. If that is not it, it is most likely a problem with the remote. The caller itself just plays what it is told, the remote will default to track one when there are power issues, and I am guessing that coyote locator is your #1 track.

wow, great story. There is nothing like the javelina HAM hunt. -
Nicely done! It took me 6 days to get a pig this year. I think you guys are doing it right.
-
Just went up to check cameras, now you have to haul that cat around. Sounds like a rough day.
-
VMAX is the way to go. I really like the Hornady superformance ammo. Just make sure you are sighted in for the ammo you are hunting with. 45 to 50 grain can be a huge difference depending on your gun.

I would like some more info on this as well. It seemed like when the "expanded" metro hunting was passed it only applied to dove and ruled out everything else. I have never hunted in an M unit, but saw a pack of yotes on my way out of town the other day and would love to get back to them.
