  1. Doug, the 18B/20C hunts will be combined in our camp and i and a couple other hard working souls will be there for that one--Stan has taken on the 36A camp and we have the same group from Page taking care of the Kiabab camp this year--i believe they are called the Buckskins and they are a chapter of the ADA. We are still working on the locations of the camps but i should have that tied down in a week or two. You want to come up and camp out with us in 18B/20C??

    ADVICE ON QUADS

Bill, If you can swing it i would recommend for you a Rhino or a Ranger type rig--they are higher in price but they are very comfortable, they have a bed to carry thing s in and they are like driving a truck with a steering wheel and all. I am in the process of saving for mine. As for quads--i have an old 2000 Polaris 425 4x4 that has NEVER failed me in all the years i have had it--my buddy has the same year Yamaha Grizzly (i think) and he has had no problems with his--my wife has a Yamaha Bruin two wheel drive and it has been perfect for her. One thing you might want to check on with the quads is the ability to pull start the machine if the battery goes dead on you--some of the newer Polaris models have the pull start but it won't start the machine?? Not sure why that is but that is the way it is. Shartpants (he is a member on here) has some great deals on the Rhino's and if you go that way you might want to get with him and talk about it. Good luck Bill!!
  4. I used the pistol grips once and didn't like them as much as my Jim White head--just me opinion though--could be i just needed to get used to them??

    Elk Decoy

They work on big bulls too--here is my friend Eric who is a guide that uses decoys for his primary style of hunting BIG bulls. He will set his hunter up about 60 yards away from him then he gets about 15 yards behind his decoy and he will call with a mouth call--it works and it works very well as you can see by the picture. Good luck!!

    My First Arizona Antelope

That is a super buck!! Congratulations!!
  7. We watched him for three days, he was our second choice buck--the first choice buck gave us a shot at 8 am on the opener but my guy missed--ends up this guy was bigger--another hunter got the other buck. He got his nickname from this hunters stepson--the buck would get up and lay down and then get up and lay down--he kept this up for over two hours--thus, the name Yo Yo. I think the bugs were driving the poor dude crazy and he had no place to get rid of them. Oh, he had 7" bases and his seconds were a bit bigger--he was a good buck for sure.
  8. This is the best i have from the side Doug. This buck had 6.5 prongs on both sides.

    Hunt of a Lifetime

Allen, I will be there to hand out the info at the ADA clinic--i will just get a bad case of buck fever or something and call in sick for the day. I hate swing shift but that is the shift i work. R.L. If you need any help with that 4B muzzy hunt i know a guide that will be working with me on the archery hunt in the same unit for another HOAL hunter--i could use some help the first weekend of this hunt by the way. Richard Kauffman will be in there on an archery hunt with his Dad and he will be helping the HOAL with the hunter we have--he is also pre-scouting the unit for a client of ours that has a late rifle tag so i am sure he would love to be of assistance if you need any help at all. I am sending out an invitation to any of you that would like to help with any of these hunts--you are more than welcome to come up and be a part of this fantastic event--i could always use another set of eye's and a strong back to haul these big boys out with (elk i mean) If any of you are interested in coming up for the archery hunt or the muzzy hunt just let me know--you can email me at arizonaoutfitter@cox.net Allen, thanks again for helping this great group!

    Hunt of a Lifetime

Shortpants, We should do pretty good in 1 with our young hunter--we have a very good person in Springerville that will be riding shotgun with us, his awesome wife donated the tag to the HOAL and he wants to be there to see the joy on the hunters face. There is a story in the Western Hunter Magazine and there is one in the last issue of Arizona Outdoorsman Magazine. Thanks for the well wishes!!!!

    Hunt of a Lifetime

Amanda, here is how it all got started!! Yes, you can donate your tag now because of this law. Read on:
  13. True Amanda but he would still go into the SCI and from the way he looks he would do very well. I love the B&C but i hate some of their rules--like the one you just mentioned. That buck is fully mature and he has some really nice horns--why should he not be included with the rest of the big bucks?? (just asking out loud here)

    Hunt of a Lifetime

Folks, I am the Public Information Officer for the Arizona Chapter of HOAL and what you all are doing is absolutely wonderful. If you need any specifics about the HOAL all you have to do is go to our site here in Arizona--that site addy is http://www.hoalarizona.org/ this should give all of you an idea as to what the Organization is all about. Don is in charge of our guides and outfitters--but if you look at the officers on the link you will notice some other familiar names as well. I would recommend contacting Terry Petko for any donations that you might want to help us with--Terry is the main contact for Arizona and with out him this organization may not have been brought to Arizona. Also, for any of you that want to help me and my fellow guides in unit 1 we have a muzzle loader tag for a young man and we will be doing our best to get him on a good bull. Here is the national link http://www.huntofalifetime.org/ Thanks folks!

    Unit 21 Early Hunt

I was in there in December last year and you would not believe the activity that the burn is getting--didn't see any shooters but did see a few bucks. Good luck! My daughter and Dad have the mule deer hunt in there in November.

    cow tags

Colorado has over the counter cow tags and they are at a pretty good price. I would check with them and see what they have to offer.
  17. They shed every year--they are not like antlers though, more like hair and what your finger nails are made of. That buck will make 90".

    Antelope Question

The trophy is in the eye of the beholder and only you know what you will like. There have been some very good advise on this thread--the best is that you really don't know what you have out there until the rut kicks in. Keep an eye on the areas that hold the does--this is where the big guys will be nearest at this time. They will stage and let the little dudes get the girls together and then when the time is right they will head down and chase them off. Last year there was a buck shot in that unit that scored right at 82" and he had two inches of horn busted on his left side--so, the big one's are there and you will get to see them when the action begins. Don't think because a buck is short he won't score well either--if they look like they have a ton of mass but are only 13" or 14" the mass will make up the difference and if they have about 3 to 4 inches of prong hanging in front of the horn they will score even better. Hold off for a few days if you can and then shoot the one you like the best--there all good as far as i am concerned and like someone said--a 4 or 5 year old buck is a trophy for sure.

    Jr. Buck mount

Super nice buck and a great looking kid!! This is what it is all about--kids getting into it!! Congrats to both of you on a job well done!!
  20. Josh, I have a .44 and you can use it all ya want it is Ruger Super Blackhawk , i also have a Savage Striker in the .270 WSM but it kicks like a mule. I also have about ten different barrels for my T/C and all you need to do is say which one you want to use. I like the 7/30 waters i have for the small deer. If you want to have a few extra rounds to let loose you can use my 10mm Glock!! LOL!! David, that .44 will dump that bear man--use it!!
