Best spotting scope for $1000 or less
rossislider replied to ricodabears's topic in Optics and tripods
I have a Vortex Viper 15-15x65. It is a good scope, but certainly not top of the line. I plan to upgrade at some point, but not for a while down the road, and this does fine for what I want to do now. If you are ever in the Queen Creek area you are welcome to come look through it. -
Pretty Awesome First 13 Months of Hunting!
rossislider replied to rossislider's topic in Youth Hunters
Thanks I always wanted to hunt when I was a kid. But my dad, who was raised in Idaho and was really into hunting and fishing in his youth, had lost the passion and interest. I never really got the chance to hunt till I was in my 20's and started to get invited by a good friend and his family. I was into my thirties before I could start to devote much time, energy, and resources to it. Now 38, I've spent a good deal of time and resources over the past several years to make up for lost time and learn what I could, 1. Because I love it! 2. Because I want to be able to to pass it along to my kids, and I don't want them to miss out like I did. Don't get me wrong, I have a great dad. It just wasn't his thing anymore. But my hope is that by the time my kids are my age, and ready to raise the next generation of outdoorsmen/women, they won't be playing catch up like me. I think we are off to a good start. Thanks again to all in here who have helped to bring me along the learning curve over these past several years. I still have a ton to learn compared to most of you, but I'm doing my best to pass it along and pay it forward. -
Only 11 years and 1 month old and this fine young man has had quite the hunting success. He ate tag soup this year on turkey and javelina (hoping for a little redemption this coming spring), but the rest has been pretty impressive. Big thanks to a lot of individuals on here who have helped (Big Browns, Cody Heuett, lancetkenyon, CouesPursuit, PRDATR, Shane Koury, TRKHNTR, twowindy, and many more.)

I have a couple of Harris bipods in different lengths. Atlas look really nice, but I don't think they would help me out enough to justify the cost. I also have a Claw (now know as Triclawps) between the three I have something for most any situation.

Awesome job Adam! Congratulations to you both!

So cool! Congratulations! -
My buddy's family has some. It was up near Greer. Plenty of snow for them after the storms of the past few days. Lots of fun hitting the back trails and seeing tracks everywhere in the new snow.

Thanks for doing this. Hope to make it out with the family this weekend.

This video was too good not to share. Love "Lesson #1". I try to explain this to my kids, but don't have any more luck than Hank did.

I post these up about once month so many of you are already familiar with this, and if you have signed up you should get email updates when the sales go live. For any of you unfamiliar, I’ll post the explanation again. Danner does these factory outlet sales about once a month and post a handful of their different models of boot up for sale at prices that are usually 50% off or more (with free shipping) till gone, or for a few days. Sometimes the stuff they post up is ugly crap, sometimes there are amazing deals on hiking and hunting boots. Recently I, and several other here, bought a couple of pairs of Danner boots for $25 each. If you haven’t been to the Danner factory outlet site before, you must create a free account to view what is available for any given sale. Here a link to set up an account: http://www.hitthebreakroom.com/invite/?r=237537 Once the sale starts I’ll check to see if they have anything that seems of interest to this crowd. If so I’ll post it up. Here is the gist from their website: WHAT IS THE BREAKROOM The Breakroom is a members only website where you can go to get a break on premium priced boots and accessories from brands like Danner and LaCrosse. We feature bi-weekly sales on a mix of second quality, USA made boots direct from our Portland factory, in addition to discontinued and closeout styles. All boots are discounted between 30% and 70% off original retail prices. IS THIS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE? You know how that old saying goes, “If it’s too good to be true, it probably is.” Our Portland locals will tell you differently. For the last couple of decades, our Danner Factory Store used to be the only place to pick up Factory Seconds and discontinued products at insanely low prices. We’re now opening up this inventory to all members of The Breakroom. BUT REALLY, WHAT’S THE CATCH? Inventory is random and quantities are limited. That’s why The Breakroom is only open for a few days at a time with a select offering of boots. Our product selection is based on the styles that are currently being manufactured at our Portland factory and seasonal boots that are on their way out. Second quality boots have slight cosmetic blemishes, so if you’re looking for absolute perfection it’s best to do your shopping at danner.com instead. Other than that, you get free shipping in the lower 48 states and 30-day returns, so there’s really not much to complain about. HOW DOES IT WORK? We’ll email you when each new sale is about to start (you can also be updated via Twitter orFacebook). Each sale lasts for 3 days or until the product is sold out. So the earlier you shop, the better. Take a break and check out our current deals right now. Once you make a purchase, we’ll ship your boots out between 3-5 business days and you’ll be one step closer to bragging to your friends about the great deal you got on your sweet new boots.

Unfortunately I have found that most quality packs with hip belts are much to large for my tall but slim 11 year old son. I have a Badlands Superday, Badlands 2200, and a Kuiu Icon Pro 7200. They all drown him in the waste belt area. In time I'll have him use the Superday for day hunts. For now he uses a Bass Pro Redhead pack that was about $20. No waste strap, but he is getting use to carrying a pack that I can still stick his binos, tripod, water, snacks, and a few other small items in till he graduates to the next level. http://www.basspro.com/RedHead-Deer-Trail-Daypack/product/13030505562510/

I literally started drooling when I saw this. Just don't have the funds. What a beautiful firearm! If it were nickel I would be listing a kidney for sale on the black market instead of typing this.

The bow has been spoken for.

Couldn't agree more about the crazy cost of youth hunting clothing. Big thanks to lancetkenyon for donating some camo hand-me-downs from his kids that my son has worn for the past couple of years. As the last of my kids outgrow the stuff I have, and continue to collect, I hope to repay Lance's generosity and passing this stuff along. Keep up the great work guys! In that spirit, I have a youth Matthews Genesis bow to pass along to a kid that might like to give archery a try. My son shot it for a couple of years and recently upgraded at his last birthday. The bow itself is in good shape but needs: a cable slide http://www.eaglearchery.com/Mathews-Carbon-Glide-Cable-Slide-for-Genesis/ an arrow rest. http://www.lancasterarchery.com/genesis-archery-genesis-flipper-rest-right-hand.html It will come with everything pictured (case, arrows, etc). There a couple of good arrows in there, some need new nocks, veins, etc. Located in Queen Creek

Bergers FAILED me horribly
rossislider replied to joelpresmyk8's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
^^^Same here. My son shot a coues buck last year and a mule buck this year with my 300 RUM shooting 210 Bergers. One was 330 yards, the other was 342 yards. Both were bedded when he shot, neither left the bed. -
WTS New Kuiu Super Down Hooded Jacket (Tags Still Attached)
rossislider posted a topic in Classified Ads
I'm selling the Kuiu Hooded Super Down Jacket I bought a couple of weeks ago when they were doing the 30% off sale. It is brand new with the tags still on. Great jacket, but it was an impulse buy that I really don't need and can't justify. I was just going to ship it back for a refund. But since they ran out so quickly (and are still sold out) I thought I'd offer it to someone on here before I send it back. It is size XL and the color is Verde Camo. Retail is $249.99. The sale price was $174.99 and shipping was $10.95. I paid $185.94 total. Asking $185.00 Thanks -

Bergers FAILED me horribly
rossislider replied to joelpresmyk8's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Your velocity sounds okay, but IMO that is a lot of bullet out of a 30-06. But that shouldn't really affect expansion. I'd stick with them since it doesn't seem to have affected your success, and working up a new load is a big investment in time and money. I personally love Bergers out of all of my rifles and haven't had any complaints. I'll post a picture below of the exit wound on my October muley. This was 168gr Bergers out of my 7mm mag at 551 yards. This exit is about 6 inches in diameter. -
My Ranger crew has a heater installed. I don't think it is anything I would buy for myself, but the original owner in Utah had it installed, so why not. I have an open cab with a half windshield. It does cut the chill a little on those long cold rides and is a nice feature. But if you are not properly dressed anyway, you will still be cold. If in the Queen Creek area, you are welcome to check it out.

I woke up at 3:00 AM this morning thinking about elk hunting and couldn't go back to sleep. Good luck to all of you today. Wish I was up there with you. Let's see some pictures!!!
