    Youth Javelina Double

Two young boys had a great start to their 2018 hunting. We were out with some friends glassing from opposite knobs (about 1400 yards apart) to cover more area. About mid-morning we got the message that our other party had a herd come through the drainage below them and dropped a boar at about 150 yards. We knew the others wouldn't go far, so we hustled to them. After a few minutes we found a lone pig about 700 yards away. As we watched it and were coming up with a plan, we saw two others slowly working their way back to the downed pig. Sure enough they came right to him. They were lined up one behind the other, not giving Draysen a shot. As we waited for our shot, they bedded down with the dead one (see first video). While Draysen kept the gun on them and ready, I threw rocks hoping to make enough noise to get them up. After a few unsuccessful minutes we decided to give a few hard blows on the call (see second video). Despite my terrible calls to start the sequence, that did the trick, and Draysen squeezed one into his opening at 170 yards.

    Hunters education ???’s

You can do it online and then attend the 1 day live class/field day. This would fulfill the same requirement as attending the multiple live courses and would qualify you for the lifetime bonus point. Anymore, they recommend adults do the online option as it leaves more classroom space for kids, which is what the classes are structured towards. I have sat through the classroom version three different times, myself many years ago and recently with my kids. I would HIGHLY recommend the online option for an adults . For kids, I definitely suggest the full classroom version. I believe they will get a lot more out of it.

    AZGFD hit my cc

They sent out NUMEROUS email saying it had been changed. So if you applied online, you had to leave an email address, meaning you got the update. There was also a check box on the application that YOU HAD TO CHECK to proceed stating you were aware the update deadline had been changed to 3/1. There are also updated regs on the AZGFD site. Anyone who complains has no one to fault but themself. It was also discussed on her ad nausaem. http://www.coueswhitetail.com/forums/topic/77718-just-how-much-do-you-trust-your-bankfinancial-institution/page-3?hl=deadline Not so sure about the numerous emails part...i applied online and never received a single email. Im cool with it, i knew when the update date was so no issues, but if i didnt get an email Im sure a lot of others didnt either. I received four different emails.

    Day One Results

My wife will be chasing rutting bulls, and I'll be living vicariously through her (as is usually the case these days).

If it happens today, and I think it will, I estimate we will first hear from someone between 7:30-7:45.

    1 Day!!!

Yeah I may be in a bit of trouble now. My boss is a vegetarian and until now was completely oblivious about anything relating to hunting. HOWEVER, she just got engaged to a guy that is a big time hunter, guide, etc. On the positive side, I finally have something to relate to her about. On the negative, she might be keeping a closer watch on productivity in the morning.
  11. Who let this this guy on here?

    Everybody is Successful

While I agree with their sentiment about what makes a hunt successful, I am a little perplexed and annoyed that they felt the need to take the time to discuss and redefine this. I'd think they would have better things to spend their time on, but I guess we live in a PC world where all that really seems to matter is EVERYONE'S feelings.

Police: Son knocked dad out in fight over dinnertime texting

Yeah, I would assume there must have been a big parenting failure somewhere leading up to this for it to have escalated to that point.
  17. So if a non hunter put a camera out just to see wildlife it would give the ok for g&f to steal their camera? You wouldn't think so, but who knows how AZGFD has in mind to manage this mess.
  18. It will probably be more of a camera confiscation thing as opposed to convictions. AZGFD starts yanking cams at water holes and people will stop putting them up. They aren't cheap. Selling confiscated cameras could also be another nice little source of AZGFD income.
  19. When it is all said and done, that satellite deal will be adjusted to read "live" satellite images. The Google Earth thing is not realistic, enforceable, and is probably an oversight.
  20. Yes, they define that earlier in the document.

What knife to process game - post field

I have found that fillet knives work the best for me. I previously used some of the cheaper ones, but the light thin metal of the cheaper ones require lots of sharpening and didn't have the heaviness to cut through a thick quarter. A few years ago bought a Knives of Alaska Coho fillet knife (about $70) for a fishing trip up north. That thing has been THE BEST processing knife I have ever used. It uses a harder heavier steel (440C Stainless) than most fillet knives and holds an edge for much longer than anything else I have used. The heavier weight and solid feel in the hand helps a lot. I can usually process a whole elk without a resharpen. The only issue I have run into with it is that when processing animals with my buddies, they are constantly trying to steal it from me when I am not paying attention. Most of them have since bought one. Last summer I took my kids up to the White Mountains fishing and we got into some nice sized trout I wanted to fillet them for the smoker, but left the fillet knife at home. So I went into Sportsman's in Show Low and picked up the Coho's little brother, the Steelheader ($55). It is slightly smaller than the Coho but I may like it even better. You can't go wring with either and I love having both as my wife helps a lot with the processing, and like my buddies, tends to steal my knife when I am not looking. https://www.sportsmanswarehouse.com/sportsmans/Knives-of-Alaska-Coho-Fillet-Knife/productDetail/Fillet-Knives-and-Processing/prod9999000095/cat101133 https://www.sportsmanswarehouse.com/sportsmans/Knives-of-Alaska-Steelheader/productDetail/Fillet-Knives-and-Processing/prod9999000096/cat101133

    Pig tags

Speaking specifically to this year, I don't think lower number of pigs is the issue nearly as much as it being a very unusual weather year that has changed patterns.
