    Low life Camera thiefs

Man guys, this is another thread that has gone sideways fast. I think we all agree, theft sucks. We as hunters are especially sensitive of our trail cams. Seems like few things blow up a thread quicker. I've never set up a trail cam because I'm cheap and can't stand the thought of having my camera stolen. Sucks but they have become easy targets by hunters, hippies, and who knows who else. I think what stings the most is that most of it seems to be done within our "brotherhood" of hunters. I've had multiple interactions with just about all of you and think you are all pretty good guys. I'd hunt with any of you. Dave (azelkhunter2) is an especially good person who does exponentially more for wildlife and conservation in Arizona than most of us, myself included. Thanks for all you do Dave. Let's all just take a deep breath and bask in the glory and dreams of credit card charges in just three more days. Happy thoughts...

    An Early Monsoon!?!

My son's Boy Scout troop arrived up at Big Lake this morning for their yearly scout camp. I will be driving up and joining them Wednesday evening for the remainder of the week. Draysen (my son) is doing his eagle scout project Friday morning at Big Lake. We will be removing pheromone packets and hardware that were hung in many trees around Big Lake a couple of years ago by Forest Services. The packets were placed there to repel bark beetles, but have now expired. Anyhow, back on subject, the Forest Service representative we have been coordinating this with just called to pass along a severe thunderstorm warning beginning tomorrow evening and continuing through the weekend that has them concerned about campers in the area. He said this type of early onset monsoon is very rare, but how great is the early moisture and an early monsoon going to be!?!? Fingers crossed. From my Forest Service friend: “The weather pattern setup from around mid-week onwards warrants some extra, important information to field personnel. The North American monsoonal timeframe is about to have one of its earliest starts ever due to a ‘perfect’ setup with an upper high off to the east of the region, a trough of low pressure to the northwest, and tropical remnants to be swept northward from the Pacific ocean. A moisture surge of this magnitude has rarely occurred this early in June and will bring both beneficial rainfall and increased RH values to much of the region by late week and over the upcoming weekend. However, as usual, with the atmospheric shift and coincident change in the fire environment, there will be dramatic effects across the region. Expect volatile and erratic wind shifts, areas of blowing dust, rapid shifts in surface temperatures, frequent cloud-ground lightning, and gradually areas of very heavy rainfall as this monsoonal season gets underway later this week. It’s very important that field personnel understand the characteristics of the monsoonal onset and are cognizant of the ferocity that comes with a quick, dramatic shift from dry to moist conditions across the Southwest Area.” Rich Naden

    When?

Your card wasn't hit yet? Better luck next year. I got my charge from AZGFD last Friday. It took 28 points but I finally got my rainbow unicorn tag! It is going to be an epic hunt!

    Turned in AZ BULL Tag

So sorry about your dad. This would be a great Hunts for Heroes hunt to honor him. Tom may still be on a Hunts for Heroes bison hunt. So don't worry if you can't reach him immediately. He might not have service. He will definitely get back with you.

    Turned in AZ BULL Tag

Agree with cjl2010 100%. This needs to be on top of the website somewhere. If you bought Pointguard you will absolutely get all of your points back. If you donate to Hunts for Heros,Tom who runs the program for AES, will help you to make sure you get all your points.

Went to buy an ATV at a dealer

I HIGHLY recommend buying used. I've bought from the dealer before and will never make that mistake again. There are so many "Like New" used ATV/UTVs coming on the market all the time. If you keep your eye on places like Craigslist, you can find steals, avoid dealer fees, taxes, etc. I bought my current UTV (Ranger Crew) in early 2014. It was bought new in late 2013 in Utah. The owner ran into some financial issues and had to give it to a guy here in AZ he owed some money too to clear the debt or face serious consequences. The AZ guy listed it for what the guy owed him. I payed $11,000 for a 4 month old Ranger crew with around 50 miles on it, in like new condition. I found the original receipt in the owners manual. With all the extras the guy put on at the dealer, it totaled just under $21,500. The point I am trying to get at is if you are willing to be patient and look for deals, huge ones are to be had on used ATVs and UTVs. Just be quick and decisive when you find a deal. The guy I bought it from only had it listed for about 5 minutes when I called and claims to have had multiple other calls within the 30 minutes it took me to drive over to see and buy it.
  8. Does anyone by chance have saved or still have a link to the original 2017 leftover deer tag list that come out last year on July 24th. I've been searching without luck. I know this may be a long shot, but I've tried about everything else. Thanks

    Arizona Taxidermy collection for sale

Some beautiful animals there. Like wildwoody suggested, I think these types of things are harder to sell on a site like this where people hunt and get there own. But there is definitely a market for them from people with cabins and lodges who want the look without the work or interest in hunting. Try some Facebook "garage sale" groups, ebay, etc. I hate craigslist, but you might have some luck there too.
  10. Different but similar. This is a combination of two different but related issues/injuries that involved 8 different procedures over 8 months. It has been 4 years since mine. After my last surgery I was in a boot for around 8 weeks during which time I was doing physical therapy. I quit that about the time the boot came off. About a month after the boot came off I started doing modified CrossFit (clearly I limited a lot of my activities) to rebuild lost strength, muscle, and mobility. My surgery was in January and I was back up in the mountains hunting by the fall season. To be clear, I was not at 100% by fall. I'm still not at 100% and never will be. There are certain weaknesses in my ankle, foot, and knee that I have learned to deal with and compensate for so I am not limited in my activities. Certain activities (particularly side hilling on uneven terrain) can be a little sketchy given the hardware and reconstruction, but it doesn't stop me. I just go a little slower and more deliberate with each step in these situation. Sucks going a little slower at times, but it is much better than the alternative. A couple of suggestions I HIGHLY recommend: Don't skimp on your boots! Spend the extra money for high quality support. Use trekking poles. I always thought they seemed stupid until I tried some. GAME CHANGER!!! Since I started using trekking poles I have found that my speed in those iffy situations has gone back up to close to pre-surgery speed. The extra support and stability that they give me is amazing! Don't get cheap ones that are likely to snap on you. Shoot me any questions you have.

I think you are referring to Archery Headquarters. With the exception of when Junior worked there. I have had nothing but bad experiences there. Go see Junior at the Mesa/Gilbert (Stapley and Baseline) Timber Mesa.

    An Early Monsoon!?!

I spent the better part of the week camping up at Big Lake with my son's boy scout troop. Through yesterday, we hadn't had any substantial downpours, but had several light showers. We actually broke camp and headed home yesterday (Friday) afternoon instead of this morning (Saturday) because we were told a big storm was supposed to hit last night and continue through the day today. Breaking camp in the rain sucks. I am curios if that storm actually happened. While up there I probably looked over at least 50 different bulls. I thought they looked pretty good and weren't showing any major drought signs. I'll post a few pictures.

    New pool

In my 20s I put myself through ASU by working as the east valley sales and design manager for White Water Pools and Spas (no longer in business) and helped out as construction supervisor when needed. I could have built my own pool for a fraction of the cost, as most of my subs and suppliers offered to give me equipment and most everything I needed just to push thier products. Despite that, I have never had a pool in my backyard. With all that experience and knowledge, came the knowledge of the costs, maintance, upkeep, etc. of pools and have never wanted to stradle myself with it. It is like a kid or high maintance pet. It needs constant attention and $$$. That said, my parents, brother, sister, neighbors, and friends have pools and have given us an open invite to use them any time we want. That is the best pool "you" could ever have. Don't get me wrong, it is very nice to have one, especially if you have kids. But to me, it just isn't worth the headache.

    I Want to donate camo

Hunts for Hero's from the Arizona Elk Society has a camo closet they use when their vets need clothes or gear for their hunts. Tom (Lv2hnt) runs and program it and I'm sure would be able to put it to great use. http://www.coueswhitetail.com/forums/topic/75100-camo-donation-drive-at-bass-pro-tuesday-aug-29/?hl=%2Bhunts+%2Bfor+%2Bheroes+%2Bcamo

Does everyone have their popcorn ready??

NoBull350, I'd like to respectfully offer you some advice. I've known your brother through this this forum for quite some time. It is very unlike him to not be the one in here arguing with everyone and defending himself. I'm going to assume he probably received some VERY smart advice (probably from council) to lay low and let things blow over as much as possible. I get that as a brother, you want to stick up for him and the rest of your family, very admirable. But consider what you are accomplishing here. Are you helping or keeping this going? Since you have joined the discussion your family and church have been dragged into the discussion. Clearly you are free to do as you like, but should consider how you could better help your brother and family. It sounds like guilty or innocent, tough times are ahead for Blake. There has to be more constructive ways to love and show him your support.
