Hi All- A couple months ago I purchased a Tikka T3 Stainless 7mm-08. My wife is starting to show some interest in hunting and my oldest son will be of hunting age in a couple of years. I believe this will be a great elk/deer rifle for them. However, I have been working up some loads and thus far have been pretty disappointed with the results. All rounds have been loaded with: Berger 140 VLDs Federal Primers R15 powder My COAL is 2.183, which is my magazine max. My lands length is 2.280. Thus far I have tried seven different powder weights and have yet to have a grouping I like. My personal definition of a good grouping is 3 bullets touching at 100 yards. This morning I was at the Rio Salado range and shot the following powder weights: 40.5 gr 41 gr 41.5 gr 42 gr The groupings for these weights at 100 yards are shown below: R15 40.5.pdfR15 42.pdfR15 41.pdfR15 41.5.pdf I have also previously tried the following powder weights with similar results: 39 gr 39.5 gr 40 gr Has anyone found a load they like in this caliber/bullet/rifle? Thanks!

I've never heard of rubber doughnuts but will check them out. Thanks! -
So sorry to hear about this. Those are some awesome mounts that I'm sure represent some great memories and stories.

If you don't know the ballistics for your specific load, you could get a general idea by plugging in the data from some good factory ammo.

You should download the App "Strelok" to your phone. I have found it to be a great app. (free on Android, apple will probably charge you). Once you know your muzzle velocity you can plug it in along with your other conditions and gauge your velocities at various distances. If you know what you bullet requires for proper expansion, this will give you a good gauge of effective range. Of course you still have to provide the accuracy.

In Need of a Good Gunsmith to Build an AR-15
rossislider posted a topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
For some time now I’ve wanted to get an AR-15 for general predator hunting. I’ve come to the conclusion that I had better get moving on this before the election, just incase our current President should win a second term. If this clown wins a second term there is no telling what damage he might do to gun owner rights and hunting in general. With this in mind I have been looking largely at the Bushmaster Varminter .223s. A number of friends have suggested I would be much better off taking my money to a good gunsmith and having them build my rifle for me. They seem to believe I could build a much better rifle for the same money. Never having had a rifle built before I’m not sure where to start or who to talk to. Can someone point me in the direction of a good reputable gunsmith who can help me with this project at a fair price (preferably someone in the east valley)? Thanks -
I dream of a bear like this walking under my stand here in a few weeks. Going for a deer but I wouldn't mind taking both home. Especially one like this!

Sounds fun, but how does a first timer go about doing this with confidence they won't ultimately blow their face off? -

Sighting my Bow for G5 Montecs of Mechanicals?
rossislider posted a topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I’m getting ready for my Coues hunt at the end of the month and am starting to shoot my broadheads more and my field points less in practice as the hunt get closer. I have been using G5 Montecs as I love the reliability, strength, of sturdiness of the fixed blade Montec. I have noticed that at 20 yards my groupings and with both field points and broadheads are dead on and even. However, as I increase my distance to 30 yards my Montec tipped arrows are lifting a bit and shooting 1-2 inches higher than the field points. My dilemma lies in how to compensate for this difference given my short time to prepare for the hunt. I was pretty badly beat up in an ATV accident a couple of months ago that required surgery on my knee. I will be off of the crutches by opening day and mobile enough to where I can get in and sit a blind over water. However, for a long period of time I was out of it, and unable to pick up my bow until last week. While I am now able to shot in my basement, I would be hard pressed to get to the 3D range or do the kind of shooting I would like to fine tune my sights with the Montecs. Here are the options I am considering: Should I stick with the Montecs and just am slightly lower if shooting greater distances? Should I try a mechanical broadhead? If I try a mechanical broadhead I am once again semi limited in selection as I shoot 125 grain and only see a couple of options at the 125 grain. I have a knowledgeable friend that has been shooting a lot longer than I who suggested trying a Swhacker mechanical broadhead, but I haven’t seen them in the 125 grain. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions for me? Thanks -
eberlestock j107 dragonfly question
rossislider replied to couescrazy31's topic in Other Hunting Gear
I also had the 2200 and recently upgraded to the Dragonfly, largely for the reason you suggested, more space. The dragonfly does not have designated spot for a tripod and spotting scope like the 2200, but is has more than enough space for it and spots where they can be very well secured. You won't be disappointed with the Dragonfly. You also have good taste. The 2200 and the Dragonfly are the best two packs I have ever owned! -
The generator is sold, thanks to all that inquired.

My father purchased this generator about a year ago to use with his business. I have the regular version of the EU2000i so he bought the more expensive companion (with the 30 amp face) and the cable so he could borrow mine and connect them if he ever needed more power. Since buying it he has only ever run it once for a few minutes when we connected them together to test the parallel power. Since then it has sat in his garage in it’s camo cover. He has asked me to help him sell it since he is not getting the use out of it he expected to. This sell is for his generator only, not the set. I would love to buy it myself but don’t have the funds or really any need for both. If you have ever used, seen, or heard one of these you know they are an awesome camping/hunting companion, especially if taking the wife and kids. Very portable, light, quit, and easy on the gas! Asking $850 for the generator, parallel cable, and cover. I’ll get some picture of the actual unit up tomorrow after I have had a chance to go by his house. (The one shown is one I found online of two connected) PM me with any questions. Thanks Sean Update - I am at my dad's now checking it out. It started on the first pull and runs perfect. It even has some of the tags still on it. He was storing it next to some shop equipment and it got a couple of small cosmetic scuffs. I have a couple of guys already interested and am primarily posting these pictures for them. But feel free to inquire in case they don't take it. Thanks

Disappointing Load Results 7mm-08

Thanks, I think I am going to give the 4350 a try with some Nosler Silvertips. My 243 shoots outstanding groups with RE15 so I can just save that powder for that gun. I appreciate the suggestion. -
Very nice! I had an invite to head up to the San Carlos reservation for bear this weekend, but my bum leg wouldn't allow it. Awesome bears in there. Glad you were able to connect.

I'm just about to start loading my own 300RUM so will be interested to seeing what other suggest. I plan to start loading with Retumbo in the low 90 grain range but I will be using a much larger bullet, 210 Berger VLDs. Seems like 150 grain is pretty small for that much gun and powder. Just my opinion. Good Luck!

Mine was an ATV accident. Getting shot with a hot primer is a new one to me. How does that happen? -

Not sure what you mean by jumping them in? That just means loading them so they are not touching the lands. What is the twist on the T3? Are you using a Chronograph? Don't be afraid to use 4064 that round loves it. I had good results for accuracy using W760 and 168gr HPBT Sierra Match bullets. For Elk I prefer something with more punch. The twist of the T3 is 9.5". I am using a chronograph but haven't checked the speeds yet. I usually wait on that till I find a load that is shooting well. Thanks
