  1. Not only should Mitt continue to stand by his comments but he needs to push them harder and really call the left out on it. Americans would be more shocked to know that his comments were true. Not that the media would allow that to happen.
  2. I just thought I would share this good deed by Dustin Mortensbak. Here is the story as I read it on Facebook: 365 Pursuit Just got this picture from Prostaffer Dustin down in AZ! He found this huge bull yeaterday that had been killed on the Bowhunt, He posted flyers all around the area saying he found a big bull and wrote his contact info on it. Later that day a hunter gave him a call and Dustin took him to his bull! What an awesome way to make a guys season and what an even cooler story! Atta boy Dustin!

    A Hunter's Good Deed - Monster Bull in 7W

The shot was hard quartering away and very low. We were already back to town when the hunter called so I'm not to sure how far he had gone. Dustin had the guy explain the bull, location, arrow, broadhead, & fletch before he would tell him where it was! Good job of being thorough!

    Awesome morning in 3C

Great experience! It's killing me not to be out there this year. I've got a buddy whose dad has an early rifle tag for that unit. I'll pass your story along to him.
  6. My buddy is up camping this weekend up in 4A. He sent me a picture of this bull shot by a lady hunter. I'd love to hear the story. Anyone know it and have any better pics?

Is your hunt exclusivly in the Flat top are of unit 1? I have hunted Unit 1 for years but have never hit the flat top area. I took this guy last year a bit east of Flat top.

    Pre Season Scouting!

Awesome pics! Having not gotten drawn for anything this year is killing me. Thank goodness for OTC archery.
  10. I carry a Springfield XD 45 acp. I find it very accurate and reliable. I like the extra power provided by the 45 matched with Federal's Hydra-Shok personal defense round. But a large caliber isn't for everyone. One might be much better off with a smaller caliber if they feel more comfortable and are more accurate with it. Just like in hunting, a large bullet won't make up for poor shot placement.

    Recommendations for a good flashlight?

I can't say enough about a good headlamp. Not only can you keep your hands free, but I keep mine around my neck when in the field, usually even during daylight hours. Feels a little weird having it around your kneck, but you'll soon forget its there and it will always be handy if you need it in a pinch. Example: This spring I was camping with my family. About 10:00 at night I had to run several miles up the road on my ATV to get cell service. Long story short, I was in a pretty bad accident in which I went a ways from the road. I was thrown so hard from the ATV that my shoes, keys, wallet, etc all went flying off of me. Fortunately I had the headlamp still around my kneck. I was able to see how badly injured my leg was, monitor the bleeding, and signal toward the road for help. The lesson I learned was fancy super bright flashlights are great, and I keep one of those in my pack too. But always keep something on your body that is easily accessible and that you won't be easily separated from. Packs can be lost, ripped open, etc and few things are of more value in the dark forest, woods, desert, etc than light.

    Coconino County Elk Hunters

Unethical? Agreed that it is indeed PUBLIC land but if i take time, energy, and considerable resources to scout, put up trail cameras and pay my hard earned money for a tag, and, in that time find a nice spot for a two week elk hunt and a great water hole or wallow or trail, and put my camera up, and take the courteousy to seriously look about for other cams and stands, or sit and watch from a distance, and determine good huntable wildlife in the area and erect a ground blind or pop-up or tree stand, i would expect others to recognize this especially if those cams and stands/blinds have been up for two weeksor better, is it ethical for some other hunter who just wondered up that weekend or morning or night before the hunt to slide in and hunt that tank or camp in that spot ? also great points...

    last minute advice?

http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=354004&catid=183884&aid=338666&aparam=354004 Sportsmans Warehouse has them and in more than one size. I like the flushable ones. They are supposed to break down and decompose much quicker. In the baby section at Walmart you can get a small sealable package, perfect for the backpack, for just over $1. Never go to the woods without them!
  17. I'd love to try some 210's. Where are you at and how much would you need for them? Thanks

    Guided Lion Hunt

I've got a buddy that guides up on the San Carlos Reservation out of Bylas. His outfit isn't fancy but he has some really good hounds. We have gotten on both bears and lions. His name is Gabe Jackson. I recommend waiting untill the weather cools down. I plan on heading out with him again this fall/winter. The dogs track lions much better in the cool air. I've also heard AZ Ground Pounders does a pretty good job
  19. Thanks for the website! I'll check them out.

    Economic Trail Cam Recomendations

Hey all, I've never much used a trail cams before and want to pick up a few to get started. I'd love to pick up a few of the Covert ones sold here but they are out of my price range. I'm not looking for National Geographic quality photos, just something reliable that will give me some good pictures of what is coming into my area. Any recommendations? Thanks

    Elk processor in Alpine/Springerville area

I have used both Rusty's and Porter Mountain. Both were great but I prefer Porter Mountain.
  22. I purchased my first bow about a year and a half ago and have become addicted to the sport. I have a G5 Quest hammer which claims an IBO speed around 315 fps. Today I shot through a chronograph and got a consistent speed of 270 fps. My draw lenght is 29.5 out of a max of 30 for the bow. I am also pulling the bows max at 70 lbs. I haven't added anything to the string that would slow it down. I was also just down at the pro shop the other day where we paper tuned it. Should I be getting more more speed out of my bow than I am seeing? I'd love any thoughts or suggestions. Thanks
