  1. Guarantee it will be the same story only worse. Obama already said he is going to go after assault rifles should he win another term. I doubt he will stop at assualt rifles...
  2. This weekend is our annual trip with my in-laws to the cabin up in 3C. One of my favorite things about coming up here is escaping the family insanity for hours at a time to do some scouting and wild life watching. In all my years of doing this I have never seen so many hunters and the back roads so crowded. Once obscure and hard to find jeep trails have been traveled so heavily they are inches deep in dry powder dirt. Normally on one of my early morning or late afternoon escapes I'll see at least a dozen deer, but in two days nothing but people. Mind you we come up this same weekend (during the rifle deer hunt) each year. Was there a big increase in tags this year?

  4. Nixon Monarch 4-16x50 BDC or Vortex Viper 6.5-20x44 VPlex I currently have the Monarch on my .300 RUM but have been thinking about switching it out with the Viper to get a little more magnification. Anyone have any thoughts between the two?

    Learned my Lesson

Congratulations! I learned a similar lesson last year during my late bull hunts. If you are in season and in your unit, your firearms should never be out of arms reach. I was lucky as well and was able to put the bull in my profile picture on the ground. It was the middle of the afternoon and I was on my cell phone checking in with my wife when this guy charged into the meadow right behind me. You never know...

SOLD - 2005 Camo Polaris Sportsman 700 EFI

I've gotten a number of requests to piece the quad out, but am not ready to do that yet. Thanks
  9. This has been sold. I have a 2005 Polaris Sportsman that I purchased last spring for $5500. Unfortunately on my first trip out with it I was in an accident when the front end met a tree. I have now physically recovered enough from the accident to have the ability to something with the Sportsman. Sadly, I did not have it insured. I was originally going to look into getting it repaired but have rather decided to cut my losses, get what I can for it, and put it behind me. It only has about 50 hours of run time and about 600 miles on the engine. About 85% on the ATV is still in brand new condition. The front 6 inches of the quad in the left side are smashed but everything else is perfect. My mechanic friend briefly looked at it and said other than the obvious problems from the collision with the tree, the radiator assembly and left front Macpherson strut need work or replacement. The A-frame will also need a bit of welding. The engine still starts up and runs perfectly with no damage. Most of the plastic is still in perfect condition. The seat, steering wheel, etc, are all still in great shape. If you have the mechanical know how to fix it, need a perfect 700 EFI engine, or many other parts to fix or rebuild another quad, this could be a fantastic deal for you. Give me a call and come by to see it. Below are some pictures of the front end as well as a picture taken one day before the accident so you can see how the rest looks. My mechanic friend said I should not take anything less than $2500 because the engine alone should be worth at least that much. I am asking $2500 o.b.o. Thanks Sean

  13. I was just reading the AZGFD posting on here about the elk poaching/accidental shooting of a spike bull. For any who have not read it, it appears a junior hunter on a cow hunt may have shot both a cow and a spike during their hunt. They left the spike without reporting the accidental shooting. This got me curious. What would be the penalty if one did report the accidental shooting, would the penalty be the same for a junior as it would be for an adult hunter, or would the penalty be given to the adult with the junior hunter? Any thoughts?

    Unit 3A / 3C

I'll be up in 3C the first week of November. My wife, kids, and I take an annual trip with ALL of my in-laws up to my brother-in-law's family cabin near Clay Springs this same week each year. It's usually only a matter of about 15 minutes before I'm ready to escape on my quad to explore new area or do some predator calling. I'll keep my eye out for you and will let you know if I see anything of interest.

    new backpack?

I currently have the dragonfly. Thus far I have only used it on two hunts, lion and coues archery this past season. On both occasions it was used as a day pack. I added the butt bucket to the pack for carrying my bow. One of my favorite features of the pack is the expandability of it. For these two hunts I was primarily in need of a day pack to carry my bow both on the quad and while hiking. For this I kept the pack small and collapsed. It was the perfect size for this. Simultaneously, if I needed to hike an animal out or were hiking in for multiple days, I had the option of expanding the pack to a rather large size. This might not be a big deal if you want to purchase multiple packs, but as expensive as a good pack can be, I like to keep it simple. Also, I have tested it out and have no problem fitting my 26 inch barrel 300 RUM with a 50 mm scope into the scabbard.

    Youth cow hunt

Just hear from my buddy hunting with his nephews up in 5A. They woke up to rain which later turned into snow. He said the elk weren't moving but they still managed to get one cow this morning. Might have gotten two but the other nephew wouldn't get out of his sleeping bag... He isn't a member on here so I'll post some pics for him when he sends them.

    Hypothetical Bear Questions????

I've been on several bear chases with dogs, and even when the dogs are on a bear, there are still no guarantees. More often than not I believe, and have experienced, that the bears get away from dogs and or the hunter. If the dogs have the bear treed or are right on it’s heals it is one thing, that bear belongs to the dog hunter. But if the bear is running and the dogs are not to be seen, I think it is an open opportunity. After all weren't you on the ridge glassing first, and were you not the first to see the bear, dogs included? Just my two cents. I’m sure I will hear about it from many on here who disagree.

    AZGFD Rule Changes

Couldn't agree with you more that everyone is entitled to their opinion. The difference between us is that I do not believe others should be forced by law to adhere to my opinion.
