Picked up my 2012 Coues mount today.
rossislider replied to tommat's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Very nice! Curious to know if it took so long because you didn't have it done right away? -
I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with the part of your statement that suggests that funding is a primary reason for putting in a late app, especially with the credit card system. Doesn't using a credit card generally give you a month, if not longer, depending on your statement cycle to pay? Seems like a few days within the cycle wouldn't make much difference. Additionally, we are talking about $13 an app that you know months, heck years, in advance is coming. If you can't figure out how to scrape $13 dollars together with that much advance notice, hunting is probably not the sport for you. I also don't like the argument about getting extra time because the computer system was down. Up until a few years ago paper apps were all we had. Did the paper app system go down, nope! You still had until 7:00 PM to get it done using the functioning paper app system that has worked great for many years. Lastly, everything will not be all right in a couple of weeks. A - We will have a crappy system that goes down every draw. B - There will be even more whining and complaining about the credit card/online system that goes down AGAIN when all the jackwagons wait till the last minute to update their credit card information and get yet another deadline extension. C - We will have weeks of problems once they actually start charging cards. D - <embed src=" &rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"> Sorry, had to throw that in there. Good luck everyone!

I hear what you're saying bonecollector, but the difference is people who ran into problems a week ago had a whole week to get it fixed and done. I have zero confidence that G&F will improve this system any time in the near future. Just hope more people plan ahead in the future.
-
Extension won't help. Say they give a 2 day extension. Same people will wait till the same time two days from now to do their app, and then come in here crying again about how unfair it is because their app won't go through. It's pretty simple people QUIT PROCRASTINATING AND YOU WON'T BE IN THESE SITUATIONS!

Its AZGFD! Why fix it when they can say they need to increase tag and app prices to fix it, and then not fix it. If they fixed stuff what would they use as an excuse to quadruple fees?

i only put in last day, always will. getting a 2 bonus pt desert bighorn is all the superstition ill ever need. got in at about 6:55pm last day when i was living in pinetop. Its a gamble, but I can respect that. I'll take all the luck I can get. But I think AZGFD needs to post a disclaimer in the regs and on their website stating that there will be no deadline exceptions for website malfunctions. It might encourage people to get their apps in sooner.
-
The only thing that surprises me about this is: A- There are people who still didn't know or expect this was going to happen. B- People still waited till the last day even though this happens every time. I would have no problem with AZGFD not extending the deadline. The online app has been up for weeks and you still have time to hand deliver your paper application.

^^Nice Fish!^^ So after years of hounding my wife she has finally relented and agreed to allowing us to go down to San Carlos with the stipulation that I can find a big group of people to caravan down with. Looks like I need to get serious about finding places down there. Any recommendations for San Carlos accommodations?

Last minute youth question
rossislider replied to corkin it's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Youth hunts aren't a guaranteed draw, in fact the draw odds for youth hunts are a lot lower in some areas than the general hunts. You would probably want to use those points for them, not that it is an option. Youth hunts offer a lot of benefits to the little guys and gals over the general hunts. -
Tikka T3s on Sale at Tucson Sportsmans
rossislider replied to Siwash's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I have one in a 7-08 that I put a brake on and use to teach my little ones to shot and hunt with till they are big enough to upgrade. The can shoot it all day long without fearing the recoil and it's a great shooter! -

Tikka T3s on Sale at Tucson Sportsmans

This is part of their father's day sale and is in their sales flier. It looks like it applies to all 3 AZ stores. Also looks like $100 off most if not all T3s. -
My amazing hunt - BIG buck - unit 23

Great experience! Congratulations to your family and the Ground Pounders. -
Thanks for the info macknnc. It Looks like you have done a lot more research than I. I am going to have to look into these guys a little bit. But I would venture a guess that, in our current era, more coyotes are killed with a AR-15 (.223 or 5.56) that just about any other caliber. Also seems peculiar that many militaries around the world, our own included, find the 5.56/.223 effective for killing 150+ pound men, but that it might not be sufficient for a 30-40 pound dog.

The Badlands harness is also available on Amazon for about $30 with Prime shipping.

Only luck I have had is getting on the back order list with someone. I did this with Grafs. Took about 6 months, but I got them. -
I wear glasses. I'd be tripping every 10 feet while hiking if I didn't. In the heat of the moment I'd never remember to take them off for a shot, and if I did remember I'm probably end up stepping on them during the post shot excitement. The trick is to find a scope with longer eye relief to maximize the distance between your glasses and the eyepiece. A good muzzle brake will also make a big distance in minimizing the recoil so that the scope doesn't get kicked back into your glasses.
-
Wow, I'm curious under what context someone or an article would claimed that a .223 is not adequate for coyotes. Sound ridiculous to me.
-
Wow, that guy looks like he could get really big over the next few months!
-
I own the Nikon and the Vortex scope you mention. I prefer the glass in the Vortex Viper.

If you are not so great at hitting the vitals, this is the rifle for you. The 300 grain bullet this beast spits out will probably rip your coues in half.
-
Like speedygoss said, short of doing a custom build, you won't find this rifle in this condition. Knowing huntjunkie and how long and hard he had to look, as well as the the ordeal he went through to get it, I'm amazed he's selling.

I'd camp around Greens Peak and hit Carnero Lake while there is still a decent about of water in it. My friend did really well there last weekend. Artificial lures only and you will probably have to carry your bot a bit to the water. Yoy can also usually catch some nice fish at Sunrise if you don't mind paying the reservation fees.

if you have the spring archery bear tag, you had better hurry up!
