My boy drew his first big game tag, unit 27 white tail! My wife and I put in on different apps for the 23 white tail rut hunt. She had 2 points and I had 6. She drew the tag and my personal terrible luck continues! This will be the first ever hunt for both my wife and son, so I'm still pretty excited.

.300 RUM load suggestions?
rossislider replied to rcgcu's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Before I started reloading I had success with Remington's Power Lever Ammo. I used level 2. Never tested it at long distance but dropped a couple of cow elk under 300 yards. -
.300 RUM load suggestions?

This setup works great for me too. I'm shooting under 1/2 MOA with 91 grains of retumbo and 210 bergers. -

Do these Grandparents have the intention of being in the field with the kids if they transfer the tag to them? I believe that if the original tag owner (parent or grandparent) is not in the field with them child then they cannot be using it. If they are then I'm all for it. That is not correct. The grandparent does not have to be in the field with them. The way the rule reads can make it a bit confusing. It means that they must be accompanied by an adult (the parent or grandparent).

I like Phoenix Customs as well, and used them to put a Badger Thruster on my 300 RUM. They did a good job but the tapering from the brake to the barrel was not quite as clean and seemless as I would have liked.

I've used a couple, but for a muzzle brake I'll only go with Lance Johnson at Dane Customs in Chandler. Very clean high quality work. 480-215-2295 He rarely answers his phone as he is always in the shop. Leave him a message. He usually calls back quick. My favorite brakes are: The Muscle Brake (about $80 for the brake alone) The Fat Bastard or Little Bastard (about $125-$150 for the brake alone) Badger Thruster (about $70 for the brake alone)

I was chasing lions with a houndsman behind dogs one time and we noticed that one of the dogs started moving way to fast on the GPS tracker. We full out ran to the truck and began pursuit before the signal was out of range. Eventually we caught up to a guy that had the dog in the back of his truck. He claimed he had found the dog and assumed it was lost. Maybe, maybe not. Seems odd to me that someone would pick up a hound with a tracker on its neck in prime lion country and just "assume" the dog was lost. A well trained hound can be worth a lot of money.

I'm towing a heavy load up from the valley to the Show Low area next weekend. This past week I had a debate with a couple of coworkers about which route was the safer route to tow with a heavy load, Payson or Globe? Anyone have a lot a experience with both that can weigh in? Thanks!
-
Seems unanimous thanks genteman. I'm of the same opinion and I've towed up both directions many times. But what got me curious was the difference in several long moderate climbs through Payson/rim at higher speeds vs the 1 steep drop/climb through the canyon at lower speed.

Large rifle magnum primers

I haven't seen any in a long time. I've had some on backorder for over a year. -
All powder has now been spoken for. Some more of my back ordered powder arrived today. As in the past I back ordered quite a bit extra to help spread out and mitigate hazmat and shipping fees. You also must be willing to pick the powder up in either the Queen Creek or Tempe area. I can also meet somewhere on my route between these places after work. Asking $35 per 1-pound canister (same price as Brunos but without the sales tax, so please dont beat me up on the price. Im only trying to offset the shipping and hazmat fees, not retire). I have several 1 pound canisters of each of the following: H1000 (SOLD) Retumbo (SOLD) RL 22 (SOLD) When the rest of my back order comes in stock I hope to have H4350 and more H1000. It could be in stock tomorrow or 3 months from now. I never know till I get the call. Please PM me what you are interested in and how much you are looking for, I have a pretty good amount of each. First come first serve. Ill update this post when the various powders are all spoken for. Also include a number I can text or call you at once your powder arrives. Thanks

Looks likely to be a October unit 27 whitetail for my son, and a December unit 23 for my wife or I.

Apache Sitgreaves National Forests will be downgraded from Stage 2 to Stage 1 restrictions tomorrow morning. I was camped up at Greens Peak all weekend and we got poured on the whole time. Glad to see things are headed in the right direction for the forests!

I was up there camped east of Greens Peak (just outside the closed area on road 1325) from Thursday to Sunday. Couldn't see any smoke from the fire. It rained every day we were there, almost all day on Saturday. We got stuck in some heavy rain and hail around Pole Knoll on Friday and had to find shelter. In other good news. The fire restrictions are being down graded from Stage 2 to Stage 1 tomorrow morning!

Potable Drinking Water Fill -up in Show Low/Pine Top???
rossislider replied to rossislider's topic in The Campfire
Thanks for all the suggestions and I really appreciate the offer Will. We are coming up via Globe so will probably hit one of the suggestions in route. -
I'm headed up to north in the morning (from the valley) and would prefer to fill my 50 gallon tank with good potable drinking water in Show Low or Pine Top rather than haul the extra weight up the mountain. Any recommendations or suggestions?

Sure, I'll just pull up to some random house and hook up to their hose.
