Spare tire rack for Polaris Ranger
rossislider replied to Couestracker's topic in Other Hunting Gear
Dang, I've been wanting one of these, when I saw your post I was hoping you had one for sell. Looks good. If you don't mind me asking, what did they charge? -
I'm predicting an entertaining night in here!

Looking Forward to the Draw Deadline Tonight!!!
rossislider replied to rossislider's topic in The Campfire
I hope you are right. Every extension and delay slows the start of the credit card charges. -
My Razor 10x42s took about 3 weeks a few months ago. If you call they will give you an estimate based upon what is currently in the shop.

Worked perfectly when I put in two weeks ago... Good luck to all you who wait to put in tonight! Don't worry the deadline will be extended, although it shouldn't be.

^^^ I wish I could get away. I love it up there. We did get out again and tried A-1 lake on a tip the following day. All small stockers, but I doubt we ever had our lines in the water for more than a minute without a bite. Kids all caught fish.

Well I got my wife and 3 kids (ages 10, 6, and 5) up this morning at 5:00 to head from Pine Top to do a little fishing at Sunrise Lake. Here is the play by play of how it went: 5:45 - Arrived at the lake and started walking to our usual fishing spot. 5:45 and 10 seconds - The youngest two started whining about freezing to death. 6:00 - Lines were in the water and the youngest two were curled up in balls in my wife's lap. 6:05 - My wife had all of the whining and crying she could handle and took the youngest two back to sit in the truck. 6:15 - My 10 years old tripped on a rock and fell into the mud and water. 6:20 - My 10 year old was certain he was near death from the cold and was suffering from frost bite (in his mind) . 6:25 - I am the only one fishing because everyone else is in the truck watching a movie. 7:00 - The wind really picks ups and the waves start caping over. My wife calls me on my cell phone because the kids want to know if we have caught anything but won't get out of the truck, and they are all dying of starvation. 8:00 - Not one single bite. I concede the battle to the fish, my wife, and kids. I carry all of our gear, chairs, tackle, etc back by myself cause no one is getting out of the truck to help dad. To sum it up, the fishing was lousy and I may need a straight jacket before this weekend is over, but it is sure beats being back in the valley at work. Also, we saw about eight different groups of elk between Pine Top and Sunrise. Three of the bulls were saw were already looking massive and will be monsters in a few months. Wife and kids hanging out back in the truck

Price?

I've tried a few. Hands down I prefer the ones from Badlands. The magnetic closure is awesome. I can fit my Vortex Razor 12x50s in the original model with a little room to spare, but I'm not sure about the 15s. The newer model is larger. Unfortunately, it can be difficult to find the Badlands Bino harnesses locally to try for size.

Where to buy roll of foam.... 2" or 4" for sleeping
rossislider replied to Chris's topic in The Campfire
I think Tempe Sales probably has the bigger selection. -

Mesa Sales Inc. or Tempe Sales Co. are really good options for this in the valley. They have a really big variety in different thickness, levels of firmness, sizes, etc. -
AZGF gift card-not fair for Jr hunters
rossislider replied to Shooter McGavin's topic in The Campfire
I think the point of the Jr tags is not necessarily to guarantee them a hunt year after year, rather it gives them an opportunity to: Get out before the general hunts at a time when the animals are less spooked. There tend to be far fewer tags for these hunts than during general hunts. This means fewer hunters in the field and in general a better hunt/experience Take the unit 33 hunt for example. Jr hunt has 150 tags with a 31% draw chance General has 700 tags with a 57% draw chance. Of course the general is going to be easier to draw, but there are over 4 times more tags and the date is less desirable. If the main goal is a tag over a higher quality hunt, put theme in for the general hunt. It is the same reason many of us put in for the strip every year over easier to draw hunts. We don't mind lower draw odds for the chance at a premium hunt. -
How to win a gun with a 1 in 8 chance

Thinking about coming and bringing my 10 year old. He loved the turkey camp, but I think he might get pretty board at this. What is going on for the kids? -

Looked on NWTF AZ's website but didn't see any info on this event. Maybe I missed it. Will anyone who might have a link please post it? Thanks -
Great rangefinder, IMO nothing else compares until you spend well over $1000.

Get your kids ready to hunt without devolping bad shooting habits
rossislider replied to pyle762's topic in Youth Hunters
I've done very similar things in preparing and teaching my 10 year old (almost 11) 80 pound son. When he turned 8 we bought him a bolt action Marlin .22lr. and put a 4x scope on it. I would estimate that he shot about 1000 rounds through this within the first 6 months after which I started letting him progress through my larger rifles, .223, .243, 7mm 08, 7mm mag, and ultimately the 300 RUM (with brake). Big surprise, his favorite to shoot is the 300 RUM. With the brake it probably has less felt recoil than the .243. By the time his first big game hunt rolled around last fall (unit 27 whitetail) he was shooting all of them under MOA at 100 yards. I let him pick which rifle he wanted to hunt with, of course he wanted to use the 300 RUM. Since I knew there would be a good chance of him having to lake a longer shot, and he had plenty of practice, I had no problem with his choice. One and done at 330 yards. -
PLEASE HIT ME IN THE HEAD WITH A BAT
rossislider replied to a topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
For any of you who still haven't been told, it doesn't matter what you think, say, or do. If your skin is white, you are racist in the eyes of pretty much everyone. It is frustrating, and some may disagree, but IMO you can't find a group that it is more socially acceptable to stereotype, discriminate against, vilify, etc. than white, heterosexual, employed/employable Christian men. -
Wow, congratulations!

I had something similar happen a few years ago. I drew back and BANG!!! It was loud. Not sure exactly how it happened as my strings were in pretty good shape. But my limbs went flying and my arrow splintered into a whole lot of pieces. Fortunately for me I wear glasses as a few big chunks of the arrow went into my face. The right side of my face and my arm were tore up and bleeding but the glasses deflected everything from my eye. I took my bow and strings to the pro shop and they were as baffled as I. This is where I learned the q-tip test to check for micro cracks. Drag the q-tip slowly all over along the limbs. The cotton should catch on any micro crack you can't see. Glad everyone is okay.

Our group has shot several cows over they years and have yet to be checked by AZGFD. But we have always saved the heads just to be safe. Wouldn't mind hearing others thoughts as well.

I am up in unit 1 now. Most of the snow is long gone. From the bulls I've seen the past couple of days I'd say antler growth is looking really good. Jusy from the main roadway I've already seen 3 bulls that will be monster no doubt day 1 shooters.

The water level is extremely low right now. We tried a combination of Power Bait and worms. I have fished this spot quite a bit in the past with a lot of success. As I was pretty much by myself, an older gentleman fishing 50 yards down (we were the only ones on there) came to chat for a bit. He said it was red hot a couple of weeks ago and they were limiting out within an hour using Power Bait. He fished it yesterday and caught 1 fish in 6 hours. Bad timing I guess.

I picked up some of those for my wife last year. She used them during her unit 23 December white tail hunt. She liked them and they held up well. -
Latest Danner Outlet Sale 50%+ Off - Starts at 9:00 AM PST
rossislider posted a topic in The Campfire
I post these up about once month so many of you are already familiar with this, and if you have signed up you should get email updates when the sales go live. For any of you unfamiliar, I’ll post the explanation again. Danner does these factory outlet sales about once a month and put a handful of their different models of boot up for sale at prices that are usually 50% off or more (with free shipping) till gone, or for a couple of days. Sometimes the stuff they put up is not so great, sometimes there are amazing deals on hiking and hunting boots. Recently I, and several other here, bought a couple of pairs of Danner boots for $25 each. If you haven’t been to the Danner factory outlet site before, you must create a free account to view what is available for any given sale. Here a link to set up an account: http://www.hitthebreakroom.com/invite/?r=237537 Once the sale starts I’ll check to see if they have anything that seems of interest to this crowd. If so I’ll post screenshots up. It has been a while since they have had Pronghorns so fingers crossed! Here is the gist from their website: WHAT IS THE BREAKROOM The Breakroom is a members only website where you can go to get a break on premium priced boots and accessories from brands like Danner and LaCrosse. We feature bi-weekly sales on a mix of second quality, USA made boots direct from our Portland factory, in addition to discontinued and closeout styles. All boots are discounted between 30% and 70% off original retail prices. IS THIS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE? You know how that old saying goes, “If it’s too good to be true, it probably is.” Our Portland locals will tell you differently. For the last couple of decades, our Danner Factory Store used to be the only place to pick up Factory Seconds and discontinued products at insanely low prices. We’re now opening up this inventory to all members of The Breakroom. BUT REALLY, WHAT’S THE CATCH? Inventory is random and quantities are limited. That’s why The Breakroom is only open for a few days at a time with a select offering of boots. Our product selection is based on the styles that are currently being manufactured at our Portland factory and seasonal boots that are on their way out. Second quality boots have slight cosmetic blemishes, so if you’re looking for absolute perfection it’s best to do your shopping at danner.com instead. Other than that, you get free shipping in the lower 48 states and 30-day returns, so there’s really not much to complain about. HOW DOES IT WORK? We’ll email you when each new sale is about to start (you can also be updated via Twitter orFacebook). Each sale lasts for 3 days or until the product is sold out. So the earlier you shop, the better. Take a break and check out our current deals right now. Once you make a purchase, we’ll ship your boots out between 3-5 business days and you’ll be one step closer to bragging to your friends about the great deal you got on your sweet new boots. -
Wow, talk about testosterone overload! I assume you all also refuse to buy trucks with electric windows, A/C, etc. A real man wouldn't need those either... Convenience and necessity are two different things.
