I'd jump on this if the barrel were a bit longer. Trying to find a Ruger Redhawk 5.5". Seems those are impossible to find these days.

7mm rem mag components
rossislider replied to Green Bullet's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I've been working on a load for a Tikka 7mm mag I picked up this spring, and just this past week finally got it figured out. It will be different for every rifle but my recipe is: 168gr Berger Hunting VLDs 71.0gr Retumbo Norma brass Federal Premium Gold Medal Large Magnum Rifle (215M) Primers These primers seem to be the toughest of these components to find right now. If anyone has 200-300 extra to sell, I'm looking. I'd be willing to buy or trade some large or small rifle Federal Premium Gold Medal primers. -
All of my current scopes are SFP. Because of this I always zero my scopes in at max magnification. The simple explanation being that targets close enough to not need as much magnification are not going to require the same level of accuracy as a long range shot.

Those are my old stomping grounds. Do yourself a huge favor when you get there and head straight to Reed's Dairy for a double scoop of huckleberry ice cream in a fresh waffle cone, best ice cream I've ever had, ANYWHERE!. If I lived there I'd weigh at least another 50 pounds thanks to their AMAZING ice cream.

No moose on the last trip. But we usually see a few.

They tend to run about in the neighborhood of $100-$150. http://kentonindustries.com/custom-turrets/vortex

So you are saying if conditions change, you need to recalculate......interesting. I think if you get them set up for a specific elevation and temperature you will be hunting in most of the time, they could be fantastic. Unfortunately, I hunt and shoot all over (from 1100' to 9500'), and almost year round (from sub 0° to 100°+), so they won't work for me. If you buy their turrets you can also use their online calculator to print out a chart that will compensate for altitude, temperature, etc. The problem with this is: It is an additional $10 fee for the online calculator. It should be free with your purchase. It isn't available as an app or to download. This requires you to estimate the altitude, temperature, etc. before you ever step out of your door. You have to print the chart and carry it with you. By the time you have gone to all this trouble, it might have been much easier and cheaper to have a ballistic app on your phone and just use the standard click measures on your scope. I've been tempted to get them a number of times, but ultimately decided that, like lancetkenyon, that they really wouldn't be making the process any simpler for me. But, like lancetkenyon said, if you stick to one altitude and temp range they might be really helpful.

Latest Danner Outlet Sale 50%+ Off Special Starts at 9:00 AM PST
rossislider posted a topic in Other Hunting Gear
Finally, some hunting/hiking boots! I post these up about once month so many of you are already familiar with this, and if you have signed up you should get email updates when the sales go live. For any of you unfamiliar, I’ll post the explanation again. Danner does these factory outlet sales about once a month and post a handful of their different models of boot up for sale at prices that are usually 50% off or more (with free shipping) till gone, or for a few days. Sometimes the stuff they post up is ugly crap, sometimes there are amazing deals on hiking and hunting boots. Recently I, and several other here, bought a couple of pairs of Danner boots for $25 each. If you haven’t been to the Danner factory outlet site before, you must create a free account to view what is available for any given sale. Here a link to set up an account: http://www.hitthebreakroom.com/invite/?r=237537 Here is the gist from their website: WHAT IS THE BREAKROOMThe Breakroom is a members only website where you can go to get a break on premium priced boots and accessories from brands like Danner and LaCrosse. We feature bi-weekly sales on a mix of second quality, USA made boots direct from our Portland factory, in addition to discontinued and closeout styles. All boots are discounted between 30% and 70% off original retail prices. IS THIS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE?You know how that old saying goes, “If it’s too good to be true, it probably is.” Our Portland locals will tell you differently. For the last couple of decades, our Danner Factory Store used to be the only place to pick up Factory Seconds and discontinued products at insanely low prices. We’re now opening up this inventory to all members of The Breakroom. BUT REALLY, WHAT’S THE CATCH?Inventory is random and quantities are limited. That’s why The Breakroom is only open for a few days at a time with a select offering of boots. Our product selection is based on the styles that are currently being manufactured at our Portland factory and seasonal boots that are on their way out. Second quality boots have slight cosmetic blemishes, so if you’re looking for absolute perfection it’s best to do your shopping at danner.com instead. Other than that, you get free shipping in the lower 48 states and 30-day returns, so there’s really not much to complain about. HOW DOES IT WORK? We’ll email you when each new sale is about to start (you can also be updated via Twitter orFacebook). Each sale lasts for 3 days or until the product is sold out. So the earlier you shop, the better. Take a break and check out our current deals right now. Once you make a purchase, we’ll ship your boots out between 3-5 business days and you’ll be one step closer to bragging to your friends about the great deal you got on your sweet new boots. -
Thanks fot the suggestions Big Browns and CouesPursuit. They turned out awesome!

I'd say the jacka$$ery on this site has been at an all time high as of late. I'm contemplating a CWT hiatus myself.

First thing you need to do is post some pictures.

Sort of a random question, but does anyone know if any of these higher end boot companies will allow you to order right and left boots in two different sizes? My right foot is size 11.5 and the left is about 8.5. Normally I just go with two shoes in the larger size and don't notice. Last time I strapped 80 lbs on my back to pack an deer out I really noticed the left foot sliding around.

I'm 100% with lancetkenyon on this one. I wish we lived in a world where doing this were not a big deal. But that world no longer exists. Flaunting it because you can isn't the right approach. A couple of years back I sat through my son's hunter's ed class with him, and his instructor said something very wise that I think we would all be very smart to heed. It went something like this: About 15% of the population hunts and or is pro hunting. Another 15% (and unfortunately I believe this number is growing) is firmly anti hunting. Our job as responsible hunters is to make certain we don't do anything that would push the remaining neutral 70% to the other side. Ask yourself what driving around like this is likely to do.

If Mogollon26 doesn't want it, I am interested.

Do you need their brand of tripod to mount one of their heads?

Dove Breast Bacon Wrapped Jalapeño Poppers

Did the cream cheese stay in while grilling or did you loose a lot of it? -
That is cool, I'm going to invest in one of these if I even draw my elk archery tag.

I've been wanting to try some Kenetreks for a while, but I really struggle to drop close to $500 on boots. Crazy thing is my wife wants me to them and I still haven't done it. I have a surgically repaired foot (ankle, arch, toes, ligaments, etc) with lots of metal and screws in there. I'm sure it would be worth the investment to protect my foot. But I stick with Danner and supplement that with a ASO brace. That seems to lock my foot down good and tight, more so than any boot alone that I have tried.

Congratulations, a bull to be proud of.

Well, it happened today. I had not expected it to happen so soon. At the young age of 11, my son has now out shot his dad for the first time, and not by just a little bit. We joined up with PRDATR and Big Browns again for another early morning dove hunt. We had another great day with everyone limiting out. However, my son limited out in about half the number of shells that his old man used. Looks like I need to find some time to sneak off to the skeet range, cause I can't let him start beating me this bad already. Big thanks once again to Big Browns for inviting us, and it was great meeting you PRDATR.

Good start to the weekend

Yep, pretty humbling to be out shot by your 11 year old son. Once he started giving me coaching pointers I wanted to smack him. -
Both great bullets. I will usually opt for the heavier bullet as it will tend to retain more energy over greater distances. But at the short range you suggest, you might have a little more speed and energy with the lighter bullet. Still, I'd go with Berger. But they are my favorite bullets so I'll admit to some bias. I'd just suggest staying away from something like Barnes for short range shooting. Not speaking from personal experience, but I'm told and have seen cases where they tend to not open up at short range.

Congrats again Coues D. Watching you win that tag at the banquet was buy far the most enjoyable of all that were auctioned off that night. Just isn't as much fun and exciting when the buyer isn't the room. I hope to be at the banquet again next year to bid against you. That is until the auction price goes over my budget of about $500 and I have to bow out. By the way, how is that auction pup doing? My wife wanted that little guy bad. Probably isn't so little anymore.
