You say you like to be out there for atleast a week, plan on it. Get there early scout hard and you should be able to pattern the deer on this early hunt. Good luck. Mike

so what did everyone draw ?

Well after putting in for everything that moves in 9 states I came away with a coues tag in unit 24 NM and a mule deer tag in unit 3a in CA, my home state. Guess it could have been worse. Mike

    NM unit 23 Burro Mtns

Get ahold of crazyaboutcoues ( Tommy Maldonado) He does a scouting service in New Mexico. He has a link on this web site, Gila widerness hunting. Have heard many good things about Tommy and have talked to him a number of times. I drew a coues tag for unit 24 and have never hunted NM before and being that I live in CA I'm going to use Tommys service and I feel good about him putting me on deer. PS Tommy is going to be out of town for most of the next 2 weeks. Good luck, Mike
  10. j-rod, you got a couple of real nice bulls, the one looks like an 8x6!! What unit ?

    best coues hunt

My best Coues hunt was Jan. 2002. My father and I were hunting on a good friend of ours lease in Sonora, MX. We had a fantastic time, made some good friends, saw some awsome country, saw some super bucks and got to share taking my first Booner with my Dad. I will never forget this trip to the desert of Sonora.

    Unit 24

Thanks all! Crazyboutcoues have you been to unit 24? If so where? I was told to check the Cherry creek area (a young kid was said to have taken a monster coues a couple of years ago) also Fort Bayard and Gomez peak. Was also told by someone else to glass the Mimbres mts. for Big Coues. Any help anyone? Thanks, Mike

    Unit 24

Hey, TAM thanks for the input! I guess I'll have to bring the 15's and my treestand. I'm planning on getting to the unit atleast 4 days early to scout and I guess I better be prepared for any type of country. I have alot of feelers out so hopefully I get some solid info on unit 24. Thanks, Mike

    arizona draw

fcw80, just giving feedback on checks clearing. Brent stated he had not drawn in NM, I stated I had. Corrected 25-06 on my draw tag. Agreed with 25-06 that this was the AZ forum and stated I was just looking for any info on unit 24 in New Mexico. Not sure how that = hole

    Unit 24

Red Rabbit, thanks for the tip! I talked to Leon Reddmon of the NM game & fish the other day and he gave me some tips on were to hunt. Problem is he threw me a curve ball when he told me to leave the Big Glass home because the areas I need to hunt are very thick and that my longest shot would be around 100yds. He said hunters in these areas sit water and use tree stands. Now am I supposed to believe this guy or what? He is the one who set the tag quotas in unit 24 so he should now what he is talking about. Or does he? A Coues rifle hunt without my big optics? Help anyone! Thanks, Mike
