Yes, these are the reasons why we hunt I wish non-hunters could see and experience what God created for us to enjoy in the great outdoors

Leupold VX-III help with a decision
DEERSLAM replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
50mm objectives and 30mm tubes were started with the european companies to make the scopes brighter, though 30mm tubes really do not, because they can hunt at night over there. During legal hunting hours over here I do not think they warrant the extra money. I personally think they are to bulky and don't look good atop a rifle. Again just my 2 cents. -
The 1000 club Congrats

Leupold VX-III help with a decision
DEERSLAM replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Personally I think the 50mm is over kill. I have never had a problem with low light conditions, "legal hunting hours", with my 40mm scopes. You will have to mount the 50mm higher which depending on the stock on your rifle may raise you cheek off the stock to get a clear picture thru the scope. As far as the scope I have heard good things about that model and you can't go wrong with a Leupold. As far as the crosshairs, you will probably have to shoot your load at different distances to see were each crosshair is dead on at once sighted in. My 2 cents, hope it helps a little. -
Very nice Wackem and stackem! That one bull looks very unique. Congrats to all.
-
Nice bull Sounds like you guys made the right choice to take this bull with all that pressure on the opener. Congrats
-

Wow, I think some of you are being alittle hard on 2506. I have reread his first post a number of times. Seems that he was just saying younghunters goals may have been set alittle high based on all the talk about big bucks on this site, tv huntin shows, mags, etc. Parents need to instill the importance of the hunt, family time in the woods, etc. not the size of the critter taken. I think most of us have taken a fair number of animals before we started dwelling on horn size and scores. HAPPY THANKSGIVING AND GOD BLESS

redbonedawg, First off WELCOME How bout the story of your hunt, any pics? Is there anything better than hunting with Dad Congrats to you and you dad.
-
I understand what 2506 is saying, sometimes the hunt is lost in the SCORE. Also I'm glad he is explaning his thoughts from his first post. I also don't see any problem with his forum name, 25-06 we all know who you are Is everyone out there cool Happy Thanksgiving to all

I took all of my optics and gear across boarder with my outfitter and his lawyer present. Had no problems at all. I also hunted, shall we say semi-self guided. I had a guide somedays, who was pretty useless as far a coues hunting goes, he had no optics and just wanted to walk and jump shoot deer. So he basically became my driver and I left him at the jeep everyday. As long as you are going with a reputable outfitter I don't see any reason not to bring your most important gear, next to your rifle. As far as your dates, I hunted the 1st week of Jan. and it was a little early, though the buck I killed was with does and there was some rutting going on. Sounds like your in for a great hunt

There's something about these deer!
DEERSLAM replied to COOSEFAN's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
COOSEFAN, thats a nice buck congrats. Now a may be a little nuts but that buck looks like he has some muley in him Anyone else see what I'm talkin about? -
I think their body color tends to very also. I shot a buck in Sonora that was more of a tan color than grey. When compared to another buck taken in the same camp there was a big difference in body color.
