Holly Crap.....those PSE bows can kill animals! Guess I need to try harder with mine.......Good Job!

That's a tough one ........ If you have the $$ to spend I'd get the Swaro 15's and not look back. If you are on a budget, since you already have a spotter I'd sell the 10's and add a little $$ and get some 12 x 50 razors. Depends on how much weight in glass you are willing to carry as well. I'm actually looking into selling my 15x50 vipers and buying a pair of 12x50 razors....

Ok picture # 6 looks like a Coues on the left and a MD on the right. Were these bucks together? That MD has points coming off like a WT but, I don't see anything on their racks that would make me think either are Hybrid. Nice bucks!

How so Sneaker? 5% of the 10% that were allotted to NR hunters just got put back in the random draw. So wouldn't that give residents with max points more tags to get a crack at? I think its a good thing for residents!

If I were to carry one power of binos for all applications I would choose the 12's. I have a pair of 10X42 Nikons that I love to carry when archery hunting. I can go light, free hand easy and have just the right field of view at close ranges. On the past few rifle hunts I have been on I have just carried my 15X50 Vipers and have been happy with them. The extra 3 or 5 power is nice. Most of the time on a rifle hunt I find myself sitting and glassing more and haven't used the 10's hardly at all. For me free handing the 15's is tougher but isn't bad if I practice or lean on a tree or rock. 12's are a happy medium. You can always carry a spotter if you really want to count points etc.

I have the Vortex Viper HS LR 4-16 X 50 FFP. Comes with an MOA Target Turret for elevation (no windage). I absolutely love it. If you plan on shooting past a couple hundred yards weather its at an animal or a target get a scope with an adjustable turret. They are actually really simple to use if you make a drop chart for your round or get a custom dial made. The advantage I like the most about shooting an adjustable turret is taking the variable of holding over out of the equation. Much more accurate at longer ranges. From past experience I have found that shooting with a BDC Reticle you must shoot with it at the highest setting in order for the hold over ticks to be accurate, they are great don't get me wrong just have other variables to deal with. Just my $.02! Cant go wrong with Vortex! JS

One foot was how far off it was at 50 yards. So I readjusted my sights back to where the field tips were hitting the bulls eye, then bought some 100 grain Slick Tricks and shot them out to 60 yards. They were matching point of impact with the field tips. Thanks for all the input and I'm not going to discount suggestions that I might have a little buck fever.............hopefully my next trip out I will have better luck.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Looks like Slick Trick's are getting a lot of positive comments. Might have to look into trying some. I have another question to ask..........In your experience how do helical fletched arrows shoot compared to straight fletched arrows? Both with fixed blade broadheads. Seems to me that the fixed blades on the broadheads would have an adverse effect on twist of the arrow with helical fletched arrows.

My bow is brand new and should be in tune. I paper tuned it and my arrows are flying straight. Its a 2015 PSE Bowmadness 34. 27" draw set at 68 pounds. Shooting 400 spine arrows with 100 grain tips.

I'm sure there is a forum on this out there but I couldn't find it. After lugging a custom build .300 win mag for the past few seasons, I'm thinking of trying to find a light weight rifle that is still accurate at longer ranges 600-700 yards. Thinking 6-7 lbs with bullets and a scope. Anyone have one or have any recommendations? I'm thinking possibly a 243 short mag or a 270 short mag........? I'd also like to find one out of the box rather than a custom build. JS

Light Weight Deer Gun?
AZ_SAWBUCK replied to AZ_SAWBUCK's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Since this is turning into a long range debate I'll chime in.........The gun I posted a picture of in the second post killed a Bull elk at 905 yards first shot hit him in the heart. And NO where the Bull was I couldn't get much closer to shoot. I practiced with my equipment just as I would be using it in a hunting situation. Prone with the bipod and factory ammo. I had my good friend spotting for me and I felt comfortable taking the shot. Was is "easy"? I'd have to say yes. Was learning to shoot at longer ranges? "NO"........took lots of practice trial and error lots of youtube videos from Ryan Cleckner with the NSSF and tons of trigger time. Would I make the same shot with a lightweight rifle? Heck Ya! If I practiced. Don't nock long range shooting until you try it! Hunting the terrain that most of us do for these Coues, Bears and other critters, I'm not sure I would pack a rifle that I wouldn't feel comfortable shooting 600-700 yards. The technology is there why not get used to it and use it. Course I don't have a flip phone any more so I might see things differently than some! JS -
Light Weight Deer Gun?
AZ_SAWBUCK replied to AZ_SAWBUCK's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Lots of good suggestions.........Thanks guys! Looks like I will have to look hard at Savage lightweight and Tikka T3 lightweight. I like the idea of a larger caliber, just incase a guy has to reach out a little further...............want to make sure the projectile is going to have some knock down. I'm thinking another 300 WM with a break and a good trigger topped with a vortex scope with an elevation target turret. -
That dude was a warrior! I really like the double eye guard!

Light Weight Deer Gun?
AZ_SAWBUCK replied to AZ_SAWBUCK's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I figured id get a quick response saying "long range and light weight don't mix"! Maybe the question should be is anyone packing a light rifle for Coues? What is it and what's it weigh? Here's my .300 it weighs about 12 pounds with bullets and no bipod. Gets a little heavy if you hike a lot........... -
Dove hunting help
AZ_SAWBUCK replied to Yoshi's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Should be able to find plenty of spots south of Maricopa / Stanfield / Casa Grande / Eloy........... Look for spots where farm fields meet desert. Some farmers will let you hunt on private but most wont, look for State or BLM. -
Free bump! I shot this bow and its FAST! I'm Surprised that it hasn't sold yet. The only reason I didn't buy it was the draw length. Super good deal for someone!

Needs a little TLC, a few braces and some paint should do the trick. Free to whoever wants to take it apart and come get it. Located just off of AZ Farms RD north of Florence. Pick up next week after Thanksgiving would be best. Call or Text 602.292.9264

12 PIONTER! LOL............................NICE DEER!

isn't this hunt kind of like a dove hunt?! Hunters everywhere shooting at the same animals! All kidding aside good luck to all. I know it can be a high success hunt if one you are at the hot spots first (better scout a day or two prior to the opener and be sitting in shooting position in the dark in Friday morning) or two you find some bulls off the beaten path.

Bet Jay Scott could tell ya!
