no poaching is killing an animal out of season or killing an animal and leaving it to waste. Or maybe killing and only taking part of the animal. Like it or not, they did the right thing by tagging the other bird. What would you have done? Call game and fish? Made a big scene out of it? Ya it sucks , they did the right thing weather you think so or not.

Nothing better than Internet police. They could have just left the other to lay. They did the right thing iMO. Poaching, not by a long shot...

Just getting into muzzleloader any suggestions
coues krazy replied to joelpresmyk8's topic in Muzzleloader hunting for Coues Deer
Seems with blackhorn the first shot fouling is as fouled as it gets. Triple 7 left a ring near the breach plug that was hard to remove. Now I just clean the plug every few shots and keep shooting. -

Correction, 75 grains weighed is 103-105 by volume not 95 according to blackhorns load data. At any rate I measure 100 by volume and it weighs 75 grains. dang I have alot to learn.... -

Got a chance to shoot after the rain today, im not sure what changed but my groups are less than two inches at 100 yards. Again shooting the same as mulepacker 75 weighed and 95 volume. Pretty happy just hope it doesn't change tomorrow. Also I shot a fouling shot first and it was 4 inches low and to the right. After that they were spot on. Muzzleloaders are quirky guns but alot of fun once you get it figured out. One more thing, I let the barrel cool several minutes between shots. -

Federal 209a shotgun primers. I clean the breach plug every couple shots as well. One thing I did read is to shoot with a cool barrel. Blackhorn is so easy to use, maybe im not letting the barrel cool enough? -

Just checked my measurer, and its five grains heavy. Got it set now to get 100 grns. I'll try that and see. -

Shooting 75 by weight, and in my measurer, 100 grns. I was shooting 110 by volume, then decided to weigh that charge and it came out to 83 grns. With blackhorn thats almost 120 volume grains. My measurer is a little strong on volume. -

One more thing I forgot to mention was after every shot, there was a few unburned grains of powder at the end of the barrel. Im shooting 110 grn of bh. Am Ishooting to much powder? -

Thats funny you get better results with the triple 7. I too am having problems getting good groups with bh 209. I have a box of t7 magnum pellets, but havent even thought about using them because everything I have read says bh is far better. I'll have to try the pellets and see if they make a difference. -

I just started shooting a muzzy the last few months. I have a traditions g4 pursuit. Im shooting 110 grns blackhorn 209 with federal 209a primers and 250 grn barnes expander mz bullets. So far my results have been disappointing. One day groups are good, next day all over the place. I usually swab the barrel after every shot, but maybe I should try with a fouled barrel. Gotcoues you are correct about getting a bullet down the muzzle with a clean barrel. Super hard! I have a 12b west muzzy tag this year should be a fun hunt. Just hoping I can get some consistent groups going here tomorrow. Great thread guys I will let you know my results after I shoot tomorrow(weather permitting) -
Sportsmans should have it.

I use federal 209 a shotgun primers. Never had a problem. Blackhorns website recommends these. -

Hope we have a good hatch this year. Gambles are few and far between the last few years. -
Those horns grow one or two inches a day.

We used to catch 5 and 6 pound largemouth bass in willow. I hooked one that broke 12 lb line in about 2 seconds. Believe it or not I saw a guy catch a 12 lb channel cat up there. If the bass are gone I wont go back.what a shame.

I saw one about a week ago at the concrete bridge that crosses beaver creek just south of the school. I couldnt believe it either!

Good question. You would think there would be some in those areas, but those small areas could also have a lot of hikers and sightseers. I know the peaks area is loaded with hiking trails.

The 18th is when all the early archery bull hunts should start.
