Man what a shame. We have to be afraid or at least concerned about hunting in our own country. Me personally, I would not hunt any of the units that have a problem with UDA's. There is not a deer in the country worth dying over. I hate to say it, but it is just a matter of time before a hunter or someone trying to enjoy the outdoors gets killed by some of these guys. Its just rediculous that we cant put a stop to it. You all have more balls than me! Good luck, and be safe!

Honestly, a couple years of broadhead use on any target is pretty good. For field points, check out bulldog targets at www.bulldogtargets.com. Sorry I dont know how to make it a link They have a lifetime warranty on thier targets. For broadheads, I would say the block 4x4 or morrell broadhead targets. The morrell is cheaper than the block. I plan on getting one of the bulldog targets for field point shooting and will let you know how it is.

60 yards max, 40 yards zone, my closest was 8 yards on an elk, and my farthest was 40 yards on a coues.

This deer has a mule deer face and whitetail rack. The body is also small for a mule deer. Could be a hybrid.
-
Try north of 260 Seriously. Any drainage coming off the rim will have whitetails. Good luck

Ya it is, you should change yours.

My point is it does not always have to always "boil down to a few animals" if good minds get together and work on the real problem. Instead of worrying about bonus points and methods to decide who gets to hunt, we need to learn why reproduction and survival rates on Arizona's deer are so low and then do something about it. As for the "lots of hunters wanting them", twice as many hunters as we now have (or more) would be no problem in a state as large as Arizona if all the locks and no trespassing signs that block our entry to state, BLM and forest service land were removed. Forget "how they rig up the draw." A lottery wouldn't be needed if we had more deer. Other reasons to get outdoors are fine, but deer hunting itself is threatened if we continue to tell thousands of would-be hunters to stay home. Bill Quimby Bill is right on the money. I am 36 years old, and when I was a kid units like 6a, and 9 had 2000 deer permits a year! Those were good times with all the family in one big camp and everyone with tags. Just not enough deer left anymore.

Bolt action or auto? Can you pm pics to me? Thanks
-
It sucks, but for areas like 12a it was much needed. They should cut the tags even more up there I.M.O. I cant understand why unit 7 remains a draw. there is over a hundred leftovers and only 400 tags to start with.

Or else they dont want to deal with drug runners and illegals running through the hills. To dangerous for me. I would never feel safe with all that going on down there.

Over the counter archery deer and 22 turkey.

60 yards on deer and antelope, and 40 on elk.

I live in Queen creek, and it sounds like trail transmission is the place to go. Honest mechanics are hard to come by. Thanks for the tip!

Now that was a classic butt chewing! Hate to say it, but he had that one coming. Good luck to all in the draw!

I would replace the string and cable. If the strings are original, they are very stretched and your bow is probably out of time. I just replaced mine and before the new strings I was only getting 65 lbs draw on a 70 pound bow. After new strings, I am pulling 72 and my bow is timed correctly. Go with a winners choice or stone mountain string. They stretch far less than the stock mathews zebra strings. Good luck on your hunts. I too will be chasing bull elk this september in 6a.

I will have to disagree about 6a being a bad unit. There are some toads in 6a. You have to hunt the canyons to find them in the general hunt. Archery season I have seen 350 plus bulls all over the unit. I.m.o. 4b is the toughest unit in the state for big bulls. They are in there but its a tough unit to hunt.

I also live in Queen creek. You can be in unit 22 in about 45 minutes.

Good advice above. I have the same tag as you and have hunted the area before. Good luck finding an area that doesnt have roads. But it doesnt matter. You will see plenty of elk. Find a big canyon, and hunt around it. They like to bed near or in the big canyons. Also watch for the tree huggers. Two years ago they shot thousands of round off at all hours of the day and night. They would also drive up and down the road banging pots and pans. Crazy bunch they are.

Moonrise over Sedona's Red Rock Crossing
coues krazy replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Non-hunting trip reports
Sedona sure is a pretty place. I lived there from the day I was born until I was 25. Great place to grow up. Boy has that town changed over the years! -
If you want fair, it doesnt get any more fair than this. Best option I have heard yet.

I believe it. Most all deer at that time of year are on the kaibab or on the paunsagunt platues. There are a few resident deer on the paria in 12b. Might be a few bucks that live locally in 12b west, but I bet they are few and far between.
-
I would say 400 as well.

New Rigs??? Archery season is coming!
coues krazy replied to Coues 'n' Sheep's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I wanted a new bow as well, but will hunt elk this year with my ross cardiac. If I was to get a new bow, it would be a monster. Shot one a couple weeks ago and they are sweet. 80% let off too.
