Most of the bucks I've seen in 6A were near Apache Maid or south of that, but I haven't seen many good ones in a long time. You can also try some of the areas a little farther north where there are stands of oak breaking up the pine or P/J areas.

402 texted me a picture of it a while back, but that buck is worth a 2nd, 3rd and 25th look. John did that buck's neck a favor by taking the weight off of it!

WTB: Benelli Supernova or SBE II
Devil Diver Down replied to Devil Diver Down's topic in Classified Ads
I do already have a Nova in 20 gauge and a SuperNova in 12, but they're both black and the SuperNova is a 28" - probably better for ducks and geese, which I've never gotten around to hunting. I want the 26" camo to be my go-to turkey and quail shotgun. The SBE is sweet, but I don't know if I can justify dropping that much money on a shotgun. Not a new one anyway. I've seen some pretty good deals on used ones, but failed to pull the trigger. -
Couldn't pass him up? I hope not! Great bull - it was worth the wait!

Hmm, Christian. You sent me a PM looking for advice a week ago saying "I have a 6a cow tag the second week in October." Now it's a September bull tag? What gives? I have no problem helping out fellow hunters and gave you some good info - but I expect some honesty in return.

I had that hunt a couple years back - my first archery elk hunt - it was great and I was on bulls every day. Individual locations aren't really helpful because there are definitely elk all over the unit - they'll be in spots with good access to food, water and cover just like anywhere else in the elk world. If those things are available, they'll be in there unless they get pressured out. Get off roads and you'll have opportunities - tons of hunters in there and the pressure centers on the road. If you go a full day in a spot without getting on elk, I'd move locations because chances are they have. Rattlesnake is a walk-in only quiet area (like Pine Grove), so if you're going to hunt there make sure you have a plan to get meat out of a remote area in the warm/hot weather. I'd say it's definitely worth a look, but during the early season there are many easier spots to get a bull out of. Good luck on your hunt. If you have any specific questions, shoot me a PM and I'll try to answer. I didn't draw any tag, so if I can get some time off work I might go up there to help people out by calling and packing.

I'd have to go early rifle with the time investment you've got into it already. I love archery hunting elk, but I don't think I'd burn 18 on any archery hunt.

No joy for me. Looks like I'll be available for some people who need some help during the archery elk season.

BNIB, never fired Stainless Tikka T3 Lite
Devil Diver Down replied to clintb's topic in Classified Ads
lol @ fondled. I have the same rifle, same caliber but not in SS, and can attest that they are tack drivers. I haven't shot mine (no rifle hunts and don't particularly enjoy shooting rifles) for 2 years, but it's coming out in the next week and getting some work before my Kaibab early rifle hunt. If you like to hunt deep off the roads like I do, you'll appreciate the light weight of the T3 Lite. -
no shot bird hunting
Devil Diver Down replied to 5guyshunting's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
I started an opening day 1 for 0 about 10-12 years back. Was walking from my truck to a spot in the middle of a grain field in the early shooting light. Mourning dove started whistling by that I wasn't going to shoot - I like to swing along with the first few of the morning to set my rhythm. As I raised my gun and swung, the dove did a dipping move right into a telephone line and dropped on the side of the road, dead as yesterday. Guy I was with shook his head and muttered something about my luck. -
DOVE SEASON
Devil Diver Down replied to elkaholic's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
We started late hoping we'd miss the mass of people surrounding our spot near Maricopa but they were still there in full force when we rolled in at 7:30. Sounded like a war zone - at least 20 trucks and 60 people lined up on a 1 mile stretch of road by a dairy. We moved out of the shelling/flight path to a spot with fewer birds and people. I started hot hitting on my first 2 shots and 4 of 6, then struggled as the sun warmed up and the. Finished at 9am with 15 limit (9 mourning/6 white wings) + 3 collared on 37 shots with a used Benelli Nova 20ga I bought a couple months back - about 2 shots per bird. My dad only got 6 and neither of my kids wanted to wake up. More and more places down there posted No Hunting, so it really bunches people up in the areas we're still welcome to hunt. -

Tried to send a PM a few times but it's not working. Looks like I'm relegated to backup - if one sale falls through, I'll take it. -
I seriously thought my dad was going to start crying this evening when I confirmed we drew Kaibab tags - 12A west, early rifle hunt (Oct24-Nov2). He's north of 70 and knees are shot to heck and back (3 replacements). He never thought he'd make it back up there for a hunt - so glad I talked him into going for it this year. It's been more than 30 years since we hunted the Kaibab - I was barely a teenager and got buck fever so bad on a tall and wide 4x4 that I didn't stop shaking until I was in my twenties. My dad joked that he might still have some maps of the area but they might say "Arizona Territory" on them. I'd sure like to tag a nice buck myself but I'm really hoping to put him on a bomber buck this time out. My real expectations of this hunt: a great and memorable time. Suggestions on best time to scout that unit?

Not sure if it's out of your budget - how much would you be willing to pay for a brick of 22 LR? #StirringThePot

Free market economy. Nothing to see here. Last I checked, someone's time is worth money. If Stanley prefers to spend his time at work or other things insteaf of chasing cheap ammo and part with the money, why are so many dumping on it? Then ripping him and calling him names because he defends how he chooses to spend his time & money? I realize the level of butthurt rises dramatically during the offseason, but this is hilarious. Just my 2¢ (but inflated due to people snapping up my opinions as soon as they hit the shelves)

Many lefties opt for a pump rifle instead of a lefty bolt - that way right-handers can shoot it as well and it can be passed down to RH kids/grandkids. I see you're looking 7mm but I just so happen to have a Remington 760 GameMaster in 30.06, with Leupold rings but no scope mounted on it. My grandfather gave it to me some years back and I've taken some deer with it, but it mostly sits in the gun cabinet these days since I started shooting a bow. I hadn't really been thinking about selling it, but it also hardly gets shot anymore. Let me know if you'd be interested.

I'm a little embarrassed at the way members of this sewing circle hunting community behave toward each other on this subject every time out. Almost as embarrassing as the juvenile D-bags who feel the need to start threads claiming the results have been posted, when they haven't. Results will be posted when they get posted. I know I drew a Kaibab tag and it's killing me to know if it's late or early, but this is the game and I elected to play it. There must be (well maybe not) a good reason all of the species hunts aren't done in the early draw. It just seems like making an organization that struggles getting its stuff together (G&F) have to conduct a draw TWICE (on purpose!) is a bit like backing over a slow, crippled dog after running over it once. I don't see the need to make them prove that they can't conduct a draw as well as other Western states two times every year, when once ought to be enough. Back to cat fighting.

Won this at the AZ Elk Society banquet raffle and has never had a round thru it. Sub-MOA accuracy out of the box guaranteed. Great elk caliber for those lucky enough to draw a tag. $500 , no trades. Same rifle at Cabelas will cost you $100 more. PM me if interested. I'm not interested in lowball offers - I'd rather just keep it and start shooting it. ***RIFLE IS SOLD*** -

Rifle sold on another forum. -
I support both AES (best money I spend each year, IMHO) and RMEF with membership dollars and try to attend the banquets for at least one, if not both. Info on what the orgs do and how they're spending dollars can usually be found on their respective websites. Banquets are mostly reserved for rah-rah speeches and raising more dollars, which is fine by me. AES spends a bunch of man-hour time and money on work projects that benefit all wildlife in the areas as well as youth camps that will hopefully help with hunter R&R. RMEF spends a lot of money on land/habitat acquisition and lobbying, which is important too considering the antis have lots of lobbying dollars. You want to make sure we have a seat at the table? Well, that takes money and it takes everyone to pitch in. Pretty worthwhile, I'd say. Just my 2¢. And my membership fees, banquet seats and raffle ticket money, of course.

Kaibab tags for me and my dad. Not sure which hunt or which unit, but I know I'll be hunting north of the ditch this year!
