Tile is gone. Funny, I figured the clay pigeons wouldn't last 10 minutes but they're still here.

Are those 15 or 16 hunt numbers? These calcs need to be done via the bonus pass by hunt number. Those are '15 hunt numbers but they're the same for '16.

Flatlander - Much appreciated that you're giving your time to all of us who are struggling with the math (or even just the clicking of links) I'm trying to take a load off your shoulders by calculating my own by looking at the 2015 1-2 pass by hunt numbers, but those numbers seem to differ from yours a little bit - I'm guessing because the 20% round skews the overall? I might not have 2 brain cells to rub together at this point. Resident, 5 BPS #3120 the G&F chart says ~8% Resident, 5 BPS #3128 the G&F chart says ~18% (but of course this hunt lost 75 tags from 2015 to 2016) Resident, 5 BPS #3143 the G&F chart says ~9% Thanks in advance!

I've spent 2 days in 22 this season in areas where I usually see them bird hunting but haven't spotted one yet. Couple decent Coues bucks, but no piggies yet. Hopefully will get out Wednesday for one last chance.

I'll be in 6A as well, with my dad (who is 72) and BIL (his first big game hunt). I don't have a tag so I'll be in the rear, hauling all the gear. Look for a dark gray Tundra (me) with a black Nissan Frontier.

What do you always forget to bring elk hunting?
Devil Diver Down replied to PhxDT's topic in Elk Hunting
My wife. But that's on purpose. I have a few lists - separated by what I'm hunting and whether I'm car camping or backpacking - but they're really short compared to Lance's list. I wanna be in his camp, though because french toast are tasty. -
Great bull! I asked you a question in another thread, but wanted to repeat it here for better visibility for you: Obviously you were hunting lower country - do you think most of the herds have migrated to lower elevations in your unit because of the snow we had a couple weeks back? My dad and BIL have late rifle tags for the same unit you hunted and we already have spots picked out at higher elevations, so hopefully most of them haven't moved down yet. Any insight on that would be appreciated (again, not looking for spots - just whether they've migrated in large numbers) since we're taking the trailer up next weekend and prepping camp for the opener.

I don't go up for about a week, but I haven't got the days all worked out yet. Good luck ! Hope we both let the air out of a nice buck.

Soon enough for what? I know I drew but I might have drawn a hunt that is in November or one that begins in 1 month. For those of us who have August tags, it'd sure be helpful to know so we can get time off work, save money, maybe even scout! Ok, enough complaining from me - gotta go refresh the G&F site...

Get her our shooting a 22lr and work up from there. The minimal sound and recoil probably won't bother her to much. IMO one of the worst things you can do when teaching a kid is have them start out should loud powerful guns before they have built up their confidence. Went this route with my now 10 year old son and got him his own 22lr to practice with when he turned 8. He has turned into a really good shooter. After a few years of practice, he isn't afraid to shoot any of my rifles. His rifle of choice is now my 300 RUM (with a brake). Solid advice. My dad thought it was humorous to have me shooting a powerful rifle at an early age and I grew up not wanting to practice much because I hated the recoil and the noise. It led to anticipating the recoil/noise and jerking the trigger rather than squeezing it. I mostly shoot archery as a result - nice and quiet, plus I can practice in my yard - but have tried to retrain myself over the last couple of years by going back to a .22 and working up. Not ideal considering my age, but better than just giving up. Doing it right from the beginning would've led to me enjoying hunting more throughout my life for sure.

Wish you'd have posted these waders before I went to Alaska 2 weeks ago - I'd have been all over them. Might still because my new ones from Cabelas had a bad seam on the left calf. Not fun spending 2 weeks with a wet left leg and foot. I assume the Simms are breathable?

1. Congrats on the 'yote. You probably saved some turkeys for next year's hunt and a mule deer, too. 2. AZGFD needs to outlaw shooting turkeys in their roosts, period. That won't stop it of course, but it might help bring some attention to it being unethical as well as illegal. The dad of the young hunter I mentored at a youth camp this season, claimed his kid would shoot a bird out of the roost. "Not on my watch," was my answer. 3. I think too often communication is undervalued in many circles, sportsmen/women being one of them. Telling someone who approaches you what your hunting plan is, isn't the same as telling them to go elsewhere - even if that's what you hope they will take a hint and do. You can suggest they go elsewhere to hunt so at least you didn't leave the message unclear in any way - in any case, they're free to stay, but at least you told them 100% how you felt, rather than hoping they get the message. If you've been married for very long, you know that hinting doesn't work. 4. If I pull into an area and someone is already parked there, I move on, but I'm sure I've moved into people's comfort zone without trying. If someone was just sitting in their truck, I might ask what their plan is since I'm not a mindreader and they might just be checking maps, etc. before preparing to move on. Part of the deal when hunting public land is that you invite the human element variables that might screw up your plans, so it's important to have backup plans. It sucks these incidents ruined your hunt, but I think you could probably do some things or say some things differently that might make for a better situation next time. Public land hunting sure has its drawbacks, but I'll take its advantages and call it a day. 5. I wear expensive camo but some might consider me a cheap dork anyway. I don't think characterizing people based on what they drive or wear will garner too much support around here or many other hunting blogs. You're welcome to invite me to pound salt as well, though I'll decline in advance and stick to my thoughts expressed here.

There is most definitely a difference between some of the Hopi hunts and the general hunts. As massamino points out, his tag is most likely restricted to East/West Sunset areas. It's not good for the whole unit, although some of the Hopi tags are. It's all about the hunt #, which isn't listed in the regs, but you can deduce which hunt is which when comparing dates, classification (i.e. limited opp or not), etc. I had that East/West Sunset hunt about 4 years back, massamino. I saw 1 cow while scouting (2 days) and one on the hunt (6 days, I think). I also saw 2 bulls during the hunt - they were with the cow - one was a really nice 6x6 (found his previous year sheds the day before seeing him) and one had twisted, stunted antlers like an old bull, or maybe something wrong with him. My tag was "Any Elk" and I tried to get within range of the 6x6 right before the sun went down - I did, but I couldn't get a clean shot. Then several more days without seeing elk before heading home, whupped and one ruined tire later. It's better to be hunting elk than not hunting elk, but I'm not sure those specific-area hunts really qualify as "hunting elk."

No joy for me. Darn it, looks like Colorado gets my money this year.

Great price on that gun. If I wasn't such a recoil baby, I'd buy it and I just sold 5 guns because I have too many. I have a blued Tikka T3 30-06 and it is a tack driver.

I have too many guns (is there such a thing?) or at least not enough time to shoot them all. None of these guns are brand new - some of them have signs of use, which is the way they ought to be, IMHO - just like a truck. Hoping to make some room and fund some out-of-state hunts this fall. More pics can be taken if need be. Not in a hurry to sell, so don't bother lowballing me - but I'm open to offers. Item #1: Benelli SuperNova 12 gauge - SOLD Item #2: Remington 760 GameMaster 30-06 pump - SOLD Item #3: Remington 870 Express Magnum 12 gauge - SOLD Item #4: Mossberg 500CT 20 gauge tactical - SOLD Item #5: H&R Topper Model 88 20 gauge - SOLD Thanks for looking! I might be in to go half on one as well, especially if I don't draw for elk. If someone's looking for someone to split one, shoot me a PM.

Three down - the 870 is out the door. I know there was some interest from folks here who wanted to wait until Friday, but I had a taker who was willing to do it today. Happy wife = happy life, right? Just the Mossberg home defense 20 gauge and the Remington 760 GameMaster 30-06 pump still looking for a new home.
