The last thing I would add is specific to your last comment. Cameras, I have learned in the last 4 weeks, improves a hunters education dramatically about the environment. There is so many things to learn from looking at the pictures you have captured. If we are all being true to improving the animal population, taking mature animals, etc. than what better way than to let a 280" bull walk because you are "educated" to the fact that there are more mature animals to harvest? Likewise, if you learn an area is under populated, make a decision not to hunt there and move on....your analogy suggests cameras are responsible for harvesting big animals as if it a bad thing? How about the twenty or so 2 and 3 year old animals that get to live another year because of the education a camera provided? Lastly, a camera is not a substitution for scouting, etc. I still think this is essential as well. wow you really took that personal. I received a lot of likes for that post so I'm not alone in my thoughts. I'm sure I'm from another generation of hunters and we did it all on our ownI'm jumping in on this one...you did it all on your own? What'd u choke your game to death? You never bought a better performing rifle or a nicer set of glass? All of us hunters do things to improve our odds. Cams are no different.

Hunters aren't getting "lazy". Hunters are getting smarter. And trail cams are one of the tools they use. I'd bet on average anyone that works cameras probably puts more effort in to their hunts than those that don't. And yeah they're bagging bigger game, because they're smarter about their efforts. If it's legal, and it improves your success, using cams is no different than buying expensive glass, high powered scopes or using a rifle versus a bow. They all increase ur odds!

Maybe some of that catalina sheep money would have greased the skids for these clueless ranchers. Would have benefitted a WHOLE lot more wildlife and hunters than the lion meat did in the Catalina's

Referring to your SUV as your "truck". Bringing cologne to a hunt camp. Asking a hunter if they "caught" anything today?!

Spent time in 37B this past week and there were a few times that I was convinced I was seeing hybrids. I saw multiple doe in different spots, including one up close that had a whitetail's tail but they were running with muley does. One group was even being pushed by a muley buck. And when the one up close took off, it didn't flag like coues typically do. But it definitely had a whitetail's tail. What do you think, are these hybrids, or just coues that like the company of muley's? Do coues often hang out with muley's? These two were in a group of 5 doe, none of which had the same looking tails. One in front is definitely a muley, but one in back has whitetail.

Opinions on Phil Roberston suspension from A&E
GreeneMachine replied to longbowpilot's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Can't wait to see how fast the rest of the cast tell A&E to bug off. I read before A&E tried to get Phil to stop saying the prayer at the end of each episode and he stood firm and said he'd quit the show before doing that. Well I highly doubt his family is going to continue on without the man that laid the blanket down. Crazy stuff though. A man dedicates his life to following and preaching the bible. He quotes the bible and then is called a "liar" and is told he "knows nothing about Louisianans"...come on now. I can't wait to see how all this pans out. How many zillions of shirts, hats, mugs, etc have been sold with their face on it....and now you'll be considered a gay basher if you are wearing one. Interesting stuff to come no doubt!! -
I don't know bro...second year in a row we bust tail all week and the day after I leave you get your deer. Either you got these things chained to a tree somewhere or I'm just bad luck! Congrats on a nice deer! How about next year we hit the "back up" spots first!

Chris and Twister take dirt naps on opening day.......
GreeneMachine replied to gotcoues's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Congrats on a well deserved and awesome buck. Ive heard through the grapevine that no one puts in more time than you guys and I think it's absolutely awesome to see it pay off big! Seems like there's always one or two bucks that everyone talks about each season after cruising this site and yours is definitely one of them. Amazing accomplishment! -
Pretty sure there aren't any turkey tags out here. Just a license and upland game stamp is all that is needed. You can get a 2 day license for about $50 and the upland stamp is about $10.

A CA hunting question! Well let me give my two cents since I may be the only CA resident on this site. Yes, there are a bunch of turkey in SoCal, mostly San Diego area. Trick is getting them on public land. If you're thinking of going, shoot me a PM and I'll give about as detailed a map as it gets on exactly where to go! You see, not all CA resi's are douchebags!

Unreal. That article states that the ban is in place to reduce human health risk. Where are the stats on that....and let's compare it the use of Burger King. Time to start a new post: "WTS, the crap ton of lead ammo I have sitting in my garage. Location: Corona, CA." I'm only half joking about this.

+1. As soon as you start feeling the symptoms, pound the Airborne and hit the sauna. Hit it hard before it hits you hard.

This is a good point. And when/if they do break, find the blade and pick it up. You wouldn't believe it, but I heard a story of a WY guide that took my buddy out and when they were done taking care of the animal, the guide purposely broke the blade off a havalon and left it in the gut pile and remarked "let the wolves chew on this for a while!" While I'm not a big fan of wolves, that's pretty messed up!

You're using the wrong kind of saw...gotta use one of the survival saw cables. They work great, just have to get it around the neck just right. Seriously though, love my Havalon...made short work of a coues last year on one blade. Well, I use the hunting saw that my dad handed down to me.
-
They're pretty easy to change in the field. Be a bit careful when u have blood on your hands though, you definitely don't wanna slip with a havalon. You can get through a coues with a single blade pretty easy.

LMAO This is no laughing matter elkhunter1. I get so sick and tired of reading posts on here of wounded coues that are not retrieved because the hunter made a poor sawing motion. With today's knife technology, is it really ethical to be using bone saws these days? The bone saw technology has also evolved. You can get a 20 volt Lith-ion cordless saw. I believe it also is very quite so you can have it on as you jump out of you tree stand on top!Lol...in all seriousness Andrewj, go with the havalon. Super light weight, you don't have to worry about sharpening it, and extremely sharp. Joking aside, i never thought I'd say this, but I doubt I'll ever use the Chinese Star on another coues....I'm a havalon fan for life!

I disagree with the havalon, they don't get nearly enough penetration. Coues are a very weary animal, so you need something that will penetrate deep on the first stab. I use a buck knife 118. Forget the bone saw, coues will never sit around long enough for a saw to be effective. I've only taken one coues with a saw...not an easy task!!

Any Preppers out there?
GreeneMachine replied to Coach's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
I disagree. And i don't know you azlance but i would venture to say that you prob wouldn't survive by "any means possible". I assume you're a hunter and therefore you prob have some ethics and values. Would you eat your neighbor if it were the last means? Would you steal from a child or a mother left to protect a child? Because men like me wouldn't. Solution for the scenario is simple...if you think the end is near, prep. If you don't believe it's near, don't worry about prepping. But I have to agree with the other comments, relying on the idea of just taking what you havent earned is a socialist/communist way of thinking that nearly everyone on this site seems to strongly disagree with, myself included. I'm not attacking you azlance, because I'm sure at the end of the day you and I prob have similar values relating to this topic. I agree with stockpiling bullets, but mine will be for the lazies that think they're gonna take food outta my family's mouth, and for the little critters that will be filling my family's bellies. -

thats what im saying. also above post. that And when the dust settles from whatever chaos that might erupt, I find extremely hard to believe that the ONLY survivors will be the ones that decided to take the lazy way out. But if this were the case, I'd be happy I'm no longer around because I'd be surrounded by the scum of the earth...the lazies that take what they haven't earned. -
Sitting here thinking, I really hope the lucky hunter that took this deer is a member of this site and has been reading this thread for the last week because at least then he would probably feel like he was somewhat involved or at least aware of this conversation. If he's not a member, how weird and messed up would it be if this guy stumbled upon this conversation a month from now to see that a bunch of people he doesn't even know have been questioning his ethics for the past month?! This dudes probably still on cloud nine, meanwhile a handful of jealous haters are questioning his ethics in taking a deer they've never even seen a pic of or heard a first (or second) hand story about. If the hunter that took this deer is following this post, congrats!
