Anyone moving or know anyone moving to Alaska in the next couple months? I know it’s a long shot but looking for a way to get an atv up here that doesn’t cost as much as the atv itself. Obviously I still got gas money Any other ideas?!

Thanks edge, Luke’s tally ho is a good idea. I’m in anc so that could be a good place to ask. Travel north is permitted for residents and relocating, no vacation travel.

Hello kind of a weird situation I am in... I had a Remington model 597 in 17 HMR. Found out the gun had a safety recall and sent it back to Remington to get it re-barreled in 22 mag. I have 2 50rd un-opened boxes of 17HMR that I no longer need. Hornady 20GR XTP and Winchester 17GR V-MAX. I was hoping to trade these for 2 boxes of 22 mag since I cant find it anywhere. If I cant find someone to trade Ill sell them for $25. Or if you know where I can find 22 mag? Thanks!!

About 10 years ago I got a Remington 597 17HMR as a birthday gift from my parents. I occassionally shot it and used it on a few coyote hunts. Never had a problem with it and thought it was a good rifle. For the past few years its laid under the bed and hasnt got much action. I had recently thought about selling it and getting a 223(Ruger mini 14). In researching it I discovered it has been under recall for 6 years and that Remington would give a cheap $250 credit towards another Remington purchase if I send it in. http://www.remington.com/pages/news-and-resources/safety-center/safety-warning-recall-notice.aspx Further reading reveled some people were able to send it back to Remington and get it fixed to shoot 22 mag and others sold/kept it as a ''collectors item''. My question is which of the 3 options would be the best way to end up with a 55.6/223? - Send it in, get the $250 towards a 223 Remington. - Fix/Send it in to shoot 22mag and sell it. - Sell it as a "collectors item" This ones confused me so I figured id look for input/experience on this. Thanks!

Hey, go ahead and call the number on the recall page. It'll give you a few prompts and connect you with customer service. They offer ther rebate OR you still have the option to get it re-calibered in 22 mag. I am getting mine re-calibered and it just shipped out this week. All at no cost obviously. Now... Where to find 22 mag ammo when I get my gun back?? Lol I'll still probably sell it and get something in 223/5.56 -
Wow how cool with the lion and cubs!! Great story!

Honda foreman is what your looking for. Will go anywhere and will get you back

Yeah I definitely hear you there. Sad that you see trash no matter where you go, and that more private property gates will end up locked before left open. Thanks for the info

Bump. Just looking to take a ride to young and this seems like the only hurdle.

My bear season so far

Nice write up on your story. Has to be a bottomless feeling loosing an animal like that. Find him next year -
Sorry if this caliber has been discussed much but since I cant find a search I figure id ask. I have my first WT hunt coming up in 36B and am unsure what caliber I want to go with. I am a lefty so awkwardly dealing with a righty bolt is out of the question for me. I have a Marlin 336C that I would feel comfortable taking a 2-300 yard shot with. I realize the terrain down there may make closing that gap difficult but I would consider myself young and able. The challenge in itself sound fun. Im curious if anyone has used a 30-30 for WT? Also looking for options/opinions on lefty bolt set ups since they are not very common. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the input fellas. Has me feeling a lot better about my choice. It sure would feel good to get one with it! Good luck on your hunt Beerhugger! Be sure to report back

I would definitely not take an uncertain shot. It is no where close to the ideal set up for the hunt. But being a lefty I do not have $500+ to spend on a bolt. Fortunately my buddy will be there with his 7mm ultra mag, so if it comes down to it, ill take the shot with that. As much as I want to bag a deer, its just a bonus. So as difficult as it will be, trying to get in close sounds like a fun challenge.

Hey all, Im a long time follower of the threads but usually sit side lines. Not an avid big game hunter but will call coyotes from time to time. Never had much guidance into anything more. I am however, addicted to the outdoors like all of you and connect to them in many ways. Typically its hiking, quading (go Honda!), and boating. Animals are always a bonus to run into. And my weapon of choice is a Nikon DSLR. That's the slim on me. My GF and I went on a recent trip up to the white mountains. We had a few places to explore on the WMA-Res and took an extended weekend to do so. We camped out south of big the first night and made our way over the rez the following day. Hit up a few lakes to wet a line and catch a few. Made our rounds and enjoyed the maze of roads in lesser visited country. The following day after spending the night at this amazing place we hit the dirt road. I always tell my GF to look for animals anywhere we go. Well not long after driving I hear, 'Bear! Bear!', Look to the right, and a big boar is standing broadside to road. Stoked, I put on my zoom lens and get out of the truck. The bear slowly meandered away from the road and as soon as I had some space I went on a short stalk to try to snap a pic. ( Before anyone gets hyphy and starts assuming what they don't know, I knew the conditions, perceived the bears attitude, and had more than enough cushion to feel comfortable. And I was carrying.) I found a clearing the bear was heading for and waited. Sure enough he came through, looked my way, and this was the result. Full of excitement, I knew I got what I wanted. It was an awesome experience!!! My GF and I were so excited and back to the dirt road we went. About 30 minutes later and a few miles away I hear those beautiful words again. Look to the right, and theres a cub! It quickly backs up to a tree and my GF gets this cool pic It made its way along the road with no momma in site. It then crossed the road and I got this pic Another awesome experience within 30 minutes of the last. Not long after we were gettin close to the NF and come up to a gate. I got out to open it and made my way back to the truck. What do ya know, I hear those now common word again from my GF. Thinkin BS, I turn to see a bear crossing the road a few hundred yards ahead. Over joyed once again we made our way ahead to see what we could see. The blonde had some time to get away from the road but was easily spotted. What an UNBELIEVABLE morning. 3 bears in an hours is just crazy and something ill unfortunately never experience again. It was an unreal cap to a great weekend. Ive had a few bear run-ins before but nothing compares. For the past couple years what I have really been wanting to come across is a mountain lion(not by ambush hopefully). That's been my main target and I know Ive been close. Really looking forward to that day Im a pretty active user on a site called HIKEAZ.COM. Well the other day someone posted a photoset of a canyoneering trip they went on in the West Fork of Oak Creek. Repelling down a slot canyon, they came across a keeper pool( basically a bowl that you cannot climb out of without someone to help you out). In it was 3 (dead) bears! Presumable a momma and 2 cubs. Pretty sad loss of life. But here's the pic. http://hikearizona.com/photo.php?ZIP=350457 Very unfortunate for those bears One last short story. My uncle and his family were camping up at Big Lake this weekend. One evening they heard 2 shots. The next morning they found out 2 bears had been put down. No clue on the background story, but typically not a fan of this type of big brother enforcement. Anyone hear anything?? Well sorry for the long rant, but had to share. To me a great photo of an animal gives me the same satisfaction of taking one. I am going out to look for an OTC bear next month with a buddy. Hopefully that comes with a story as well. Kyle-

Was looking at getting out of town and going to Mt Graham this weekend to do some exploring. Never been before. Curious if there are any hunts going on in the unit (31). Tried looking at azgfd but could only find the month, not the day it opened. Thanks!!!
