    Purple Prickly Pear?

According to Anne Orth Epple's book, PLANTS OF ARIZONA. ( LOC #94-78616 ). Optuntia violacera var. santa-rita. aka purple prickley pear, blue-blade, or dollar cactus.Color varies with drought or lower temps. Grows appx. 4000 ft or lower in elevation. 28 species of Optutia in AZ. Hope this helps. Book is available at state parks bookstores & I reccomend it highly. jg
  2. I wish to do some archery WT bowhunting at PCL. Specifically, within 200 yds of the spillway. My partner claims there is a fence at the perimeter of the lake and that no hunting of any sort is allowed inside it. I've searched the NF site: it states that azgf sets boundries. In regs ( on= line & printed ) azgf states no such boundries in deer notes or unit hunt boundries/ restrictions. I am aware of no firearms/ 1/4 mi. rule for occupied buildings, but have seen no such limits to archery hunting. As I will be several hundered yards from any occupied dwellings ( or private land ) I feel if it's not posted, I can hunt up to the lakes edge if I desire. Tried to send an inquiry to G&F. but it won't go through tonight ( will try again tomorrow ). Does anyone know the answer to this? Would like to find out this week if possible. A steak dinner in Sonoita is riding on this. The regs seem to be in my favor. Thanks in advance for all who reply. jg
  3. Thanks for posting this info. Have been wanting an adaptor for my Zeiss scope. Eagle Optics carries the Zeiss mfg. adaptor for $349.99 + a separate adaptor for your camera brand is needed. This unit is HALF the cost. I've spent time on Google looking for an "off=brand mfg" and could find nothing. Should be ordering this next week (if my wife doesn't find out) and I'll post a review after some good usage. Thanks again for the post and to Amanda for running such a friendly and informed website. How can I donate to the site? jg

    7mm - Good "general" bullet?

I've been shooting/ handloading .300 Wby mag for about 20 yrs. I loadf 200gr. Nosler Patitions & use them for all game. Tried 180gr. Nosler ballistic tips and they seem to work well & are less expensive. I'm a believer of Bob Hagel ( Game Loads & Practicle Ballisitics For The North American Hunter author ). Shoot heavy and as fast as your gun can do so accuratly. You can't go wrong with premium bullets. Working up a good load may run you an extra 10-15%, but during hunting season you don't shoot that many rounds. Have friends who load Barnes, Hornady, and others. Just do your load developement and use a premium bullet. BTW I highly reccomend Bob Hagels book. Check Amazon or Brownell's/ Midway. My opion only. Don't wish to enter a P----jng contest. To each their own. jg

    Archery workout

I purchased one last year and it works well. Use it to condition right and left shoulders/ back. Very light weight. I also use at camp/ stand to warm up and keep muscles loose. I have burstis in right shoulder and this works well for me. Adds only a few ounces to your pack and keeps you " warmed up". Just got it to help prevent further injury. Buy the highest poundage. You can order other poundages. Comes w/ brouchure showing about 15 exercises ( including legs/back ). Great for use on the road and in hotels/ airports. My poinion only. jg
