I've seen a couple of good ones also. I think they only have a week or two more of actaul growing then they harden up and start rubbing off the velvet. Its been my experiance to see the bigger bucks hard horned before the smaller ones. I think they grow until approx. the end of August. Keven

Nice rack. Looks every bit of 110 to me. Main beams come around and go up and the g3's point in. Great tine length and good mass. Definitely a shooter in my book. Keven

Coues World record at Cabellas
peloncillo replied to vegasjeep's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I'll take lucky over good anyday. -
I like the peloncillo mountains. The swisshelms are also good. The mountains around the beacon are also good.

I've hunted down there a lot in the past. There are some good bucks in there but require hiking. I like the Mule mountains. You can get into some canyons off of high lonesome road. Sandy Bob on the west side used to hold some coues also. The biggest bodied coues I ever seen was on the san pedro. Also some coues in the hills coming out of Bisbee towards Douglas on the south side of hwy 80 after the warren road cut off. Get out there and scout and 30B can be a good unit. Keven

Why a spotting scope????
peloncillo replied to coueshunter's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I have to agree with Coosefan. I have the same exact equipment and I use the 8.5 el alot and of course my 15s. The spotter does come in handy though for those occasional times when there is something way out there that needs high magnification. It weighs alot and takes up alot of space so I am constantly trying to talk myself out of packing it up the mountain but so far it always goes with me. Keven -
Why a spotting scope????
peloncillo replied to coueshunter's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I bought my swaro spotting scope before my 15s. If I had bought the binos first I probably would have never bought the spotter. Since I do have it I am planning on buying a camera adaptor and use it for digiscoping or for more weight in my pack. Keven -

Back from the honeymoon trip to South Africa!
peloncillo replied to Kilimanjaro's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Way to go Scottyboy. Thats an awesome trip you had. Keven -
Its pretty safe to assume everyone on here has the sickness. I got it a long time ago from my grandfather. It has gotten steadily worse. I now have couseitis of the brain according to my wife. A day can't go by without dreaming about, thinking about, reading about past and future coues hunts. It occupies my thoughts constantly. I too use google earth to look for good spots . This website is my fix and I am on here almost everyday. Welcome to the club. Keven Here's a google earth pic of where a super wide forkhorn liked to hang around.

Every hunter should read this. Really spells it out in black and white. Keven

AFRICA BOUND!!!
peloncillo replied to Kilimanjaro's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Congratulations, Best of luck to you and your new wife. Keven -
I too was only able to be there for a short while but what I heard was kind of disturbing. I 'm sorry I don't know there names but one commissioner said that he wanted Game and Fish to be in charge of regulating and enforcing all off highway vehicle usage in the state. I know some sportsmen use OHVs but I'm sure there is a greater percentage of recreational riders. I did hear Mrs. Martins comments and they were to the effect that she wanted it known that the waterfowl in Arizona are here due to international and other states involvement. Hopefully next time I can be there longer. Keven

Coues Sprouts....
peloncillo replied to Becker's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Thanks for sharing the pics. Looks like that buck might have some potential. Bases look thick. Keven -
Maybe now we can get someone in there that is at least a hunter. I can only imagine that Pete's statement was taken out of context. I am sure he had real reasons to oppose her nomination as we all did. To bad we can't get someone like Lark on the commission. I'd be at every meeting. Keven

It worked for me.I drew DER-1-153. I can't remember what that hunt is but at least I got a tag. Good luck to you all. Keven

World Record Non-Typical
peloncillo replied to peloncillo's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Thanks for the info. A really amazing rack. Keven -
The number one non-typical shown on this site is not the same as on boone and crockett's site. I wonder if they finally realized they had a mule deer as a coues. 196 inches of coues antler seems almost impossible to me. I've hunted whitetails up in Canada that outweigh coues three to one and they rarely grow that much antler. The new number one at least looks like a whitetail the old one never looked right to me.
